1. Why?
Israeli   (10.14.11)
Let Gilad Shalit come home in peace without guilt. A delay will not bring back the dead. At least we canhave the wound of a kidnapped soldier healed. Lets deal with the prisoners in due time, if you catch my drift.
2. JUST LET THE POOR KID COME HOME!
Israeli   (10.14.11)
3. Sorry, but...
Tomer ,   Hod Hasharon, Israel   (10.14.11)
While I genuinely feel for the bereaved families, and those injured in the attacks, this is not a helpful move. You can argue until the cows come home about how many released prisoners could be considered 'proportionate' or not. At the end of the day, Gilad Shalit is still alive, and has suffered over five long years. The security establishment has vetted the list of those to be released and assessed the risk level involved. Their recommendation is to go ahead with the deal. However deep the understandable pain and anger of the petitioners, they cannot be allowed to extend for one minute longer the pain and anguish of Cpl Shalit and his family.
4. Gilad deal
Yoel ,   Israel   (10.14.11)
One terrorist for one captive that should be the deal- Terrorists with blood on their hands should stay in Jail.. How can the Government even think of such a deal- terrorists who ar released will only come back another day to murder us.
5. Great Move
Joshua ,   USA   (10.14.11)
This is great move. Since the Israeli government have no brains, guts and decency, maybe the Supreme Court will be courageous enough to stop this shameful and dengrating capitulation to terror from taking place. I am crossing my fingers for Almagor.
6. You are free to petition the High Court.
MAP ,   Bnei Brak, Israel   (10.14.11)
Gilad Shalit is not. I cannot see the any problem in delaying the deal. I can see every problem in causing the extension of Gilad Shalit's incarceration now that a deal approved by our elected representatives has been agreed upon, however unplatable that deal might be. As a solution, may I suggest that one, ten or a hundred of your number change places with Gilad Shalit while the wheels of justice grind along. You may then enjoy your continued revenge on the purpetrators of these henous crimes without continuing the torture of the Shalit family. Please do not complicate your arguement with concerns about future kidnappings or terror attacks. There will be furture kidnappings, our enemies have assured us that they will take place and they can be relied upon to keep their word. There is no shortage of potential terrorists amongst our enemies a thousand more second rate units of cannon fodder will not make any difference at all to the number of acts of terror committed against us. And second rate these unspeakable vermin are - if they weren't they wouldn'h have got caught! Your tragic losses do not give you the right to inflict further pain on the Shalit family. Your loved ones are gone and nothing can bring them back to this world. Gilad Shalit is alive. If you want to delay the deal, trade places with Gilad Shalit.
7. SELL THE WHOLE COUNTRY
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.14.11)
To save one kid who was apperently asleep on duty.
8. Bring Gilad home now!
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (10.14.11)
Gilad has surely suffered enough horrors over the last 5 years, at the hands of his captors. Is he now going to suffer mental torute at the hands of Israelis, who want to delay his release for moves which will not bring back their loved ones. Enough already! Bringhim home on Tuesday as promised.
9. Stop the hipocracy
Kevin ,   Tel Aviv   (10.14.11)
These famalies are supposed to know what it is like to lose loved ones but they are telling the Shalits they have to lose their son also? Israel have to lose another person because they want revenge? That we will be unsafe if these people are released? Ibet you say nothing when people vandalize muzlam geaves and olive groves, well that makes us unsafe also. Muzlams will take revange for that
10. Perspective
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (10.14.11)
I can't begin to understand the grief, anger and sadness when a loved one is lost. I am in no position to judge the actions of the bereaved. Conversely, the objective position, at least offers insight. If the pain could be lessened or even resolved, wouldn't you wish that? Please give the gift of life to Gilad, do everything possible to facilitate his return home. The needs of the one, in this rare case, exceed the needs of the many.
11. seems 2 me these families have lost perspective...
(10.14.11)
they don't trust G-d they don't trust the government they don't trust the IDF they don't trust the Shabak they don't trust anyone So exactly why should any of us trust their judgment?! Gilad Ben Aviva Shalit has suffered enough His family have suffered enough BRING HIM HOME NOW! WITHOUT DELAY!
12. To Lawrence - What about your son
Moshon ,   FR   (10.14.11)
Even as you say ..."asleep on duty"... would you like us to let your son die in hands of these animals if he was falling asleep on duty - Shame on you !!! Teshuva !!! Let Gilad get Home !!! We all cry for lost kids in every bombing in IL and other places....
13. # 8
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.14.11)
Good post, however, these objectors dont want to delay Gilad's release, they dont want him released at all. Shame on them. Do they think Gilad could be released without us paying a price??
14. # 5
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.14.11)
No such hope. The Supreme Court will not interfere in this decision.
15. and then what?
Arn ,   Yehud, Israel   (10.14.11)
Gilad will return home to much fanfare and adoration. We'll all feel so terribly good about ourselves. Then when more Israeli blood is spilled and lives lost at the hands of soon to be released murderers it will seep into our silent consciousness that that blood is on Noam Shalit's hands. Mashaal could not have found a better partner. Israel might have delivered 100 prisoners - but Shalit delivered him 1000.
16. Just a suggestion
Elizabeth   (10.14.11)
Why not swap ehud barak AND bibi for Shalit. Watch the arab eyes go big and say JA JA JA JA JA. Problem solved until the next time. But next time you could always let bibi and barak run free and leave them to their..... whatever!
17. Shalit..... asleep on duty?????
Moragh USA   (10.14.11)
Is there any truth in this accusation against Gilad Shalit, according to #7?
18. Justice
Gary ,   NY USA   (10.14.11)
The above families are looking for justice, which by law they are entitiled to, the Israel Judicial system has found all of those individuals guilty, of crimes against Israeli citizens, including murdered. Prison sentences were handed out to those prisonars, which they are serving them at this time. NO ONE has the right to take away justice from those people, AS much as you might want your soldier back you people still need to think of justice that you people are illegally taking away from those people, who had their kids, parents and relatives slaughtered in cold blood. My government does not give in to terrorism, example Bin Laden. Your prison system is a BIG JOKE>
19. By this logic, one dead Israeli requires 1000 dead Arabs
JMK ,   NYC   (10.14.11)
20. Jewish hearts torn
Roy ,   Canada   (10.14.11)
THIS is the terror that faces Israelis and effects Jews in the diaspora. Our hearts are torn! Let the world hear us! We want to do well for our people, but find ourselves chosing options which are bad and worst. This is terror! One lesson I can see from this. We should not take arrested terrorists prisoners. Shoot them on the spot, let God sort them out.
21. for # 9
14.10.2011   (10.14.11)
You stop the hypocracy, and move on with your life. Israel WILL get every one of these murderers. So sit quiet and be glad YOU are still alive!
22. # 7
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.14.11)
Of course NOT.
23. #12 I AGREE WITH YOU
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.14.11)
Israel is right to move heaven and earth to bring poor Gilad Shalit ,and he is poor ,back home alive and well as soon as possible. Those people who object to the exorbitant price Israel is paying for its capitualtion to terror are also right. If it were my son ,I would want him back home but would also have to understand that I would not wish more death and suffering as a consequence. This is a very hard issue and there is no easy solution .I am overjoyed that Gilad will soon be home,he has suffered far too much .My heart sings but I am also sad that murderers have been set free.A double-edged sword my friend.
24. Israel should have had the death penalty
jason white ,   afula, israel   (10.14.11)
for murdering terrorists and their accomplices. Everyone seems to forget the future victims of these freed terrorists. Everyone seems to forget the amount of soldiers that were killed and wounded capturing these terrorists. To make this fair, let the children of those that approved this deal that are 18 y.o. or above be the first in the missions to recapture these terrorists for the next decade. The children that are not yet 18 can start to go on missions to recapture these terrorists after basic training. Finally to make things fair, no more body guards for those that approved the deal and let them use public transportation along with their families. Let them feel the danger of the average Israeli citizen.
25. Shalit was not asleep on duty
Shlomo The Homo   (10.14.11)
According to the IDF, Shalit's tank was hit from behind and that ctivated a system inside the tank to stop the fire. The system uses a gas to fil the tank and Shalit wa son his way out of the tank when he kidnapped. for number 7 try to stay inside a tank and look at a small green screen for hours and hours and see if you can stay up
26. A REALITY CHECK FOR ALL
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.14.11)
GET REAL . Israel could have never have achieved the release of Gilad Shalit without paying a heavy price.
27. Important point
Pedro ,   Brazil   (10.14.11)
He will need a lot of help for not feel guilty when realeased terrorists start to kill again.
28. #25 MAKE YOUR MIND UP
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.14.11)
Make your mind up shlomo the homo .Either Shalit was asleep or he was awake.Which was it? By the way ,I have onlty heard this vicious rumour by hearsay so it is indeed unfair to accuse nor does it matter whether he was fully awake or otherwise.I am sure staying inside a tank is very difficult and unpleasant .
29. For those who wants the deal.
bomdg ,   Galut   (10.14.11)
I can agree with you that Shalit is “our” son and we should spend any and all efforts to bring him home. Let’s see to the bottom of the deal. Our son was kidnapped. Criminals agree to return him in exchange for hundreds of our other children. Why? Because hundreds will be killed not only by hands of those we will released but also by hands of those future terrorists who see our law as a joke and rightfully. To become national heroes and get pension for life they need to kill few Israelis, spend few years in comfortable prison and you set for life. Good deal. Let’s stop pretending. Shalit is not a hero. In many countries he would be court marshaled for his behavior (I read he slept while being on duty – not sure if it is correct). His only value that make us pay this price is his well connected family. I am afraid this is case of trading life of a kid from influence family for hundreds of life’s of commoners.
30. This is a cultural crisis: choosing life over righteousness
James   (10.14.11)
This deal clearly shows the crisis in Israeli culture (and Western culture in general). If forced to choose between the values of righteousness and life, we should choose righteousness, especially if it is righteousness in such weighty matters as here. Now, Israel (and Western culture) did already make the wrong choice when it decided not to use the dead sentence for terrorists whose guilt was indisputable. So it is no surprise that now we go astray again. But if in the long run choosing righteousness is the only way to preserve both life and righteousness. If you choose life, you will lose both righteousness and life. If the Israeli government really wanted to free Gilad, then they would have to capture a number of Hamas top officials and imprison them under the same conditions as Gilad is hold, until Hamas were ready for a fair exchange. Although nobody seems to think about is, it would be quite possible that Gilad's elders would oppose the current deal themselves, in the name of righteousness. That would be a real example of immortal bravery. Yes, I know - very many people will say this is ridiculous - and this precisely proves my point.
