31. Politicians are crap
Ber ,   Yahud   (10.16.11)
They only care about their political games and not people's lives. This is absurd and shameful. Shame on Israel for letting this scum go. Maybe Israel deserves to be treated like garbage if it is going to allow its enemies to treat it like garbage.
32. It pays to kidnap Israelis. Shallit will "live" so that
Harry Wright ,   UK   (10.16.11)
others will die. That is all there is to it. Apprehension of terrorists, their trials and incarceration are now all state tools to barter for kidnap victims. There is no justice anymore in Israel which is now a state souk. All that is necessary is to sign off on pardons for murderers. The integrity of the state and its legal system are now subject to the souk. Meanwhile, soldiers are risking their lives for absolutely nothing so long as there are Shallits around.
33. We need a triple movement started now
jason white ,   afula, israel   (10.16.11)
1- Dump bibi and barak now and ban them, the likud.labor, kadima and the arab and haradim political parties forever. 2-Demand that all those that took part in this deal be imprisoned for life. And lose all ranks and pensions. 3-Demand that all acts of terror by arabs result in the destruction of a part of their civilian population and that they lose 1027 civilians for each Israeli killed or wounded. And all Jews convicted of killing arabs are to be freed.
34. I can't believe it
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (10.16.11)
We have to bring in death penalty, or hold some important arab assets to avoid the carnage of releasing the lynch culprit with blood on his hands. We have shame on our hands. Shalit should have been declared dead. He would have had more honour than having a thousamd muderers loose. Shalit was never worth that
35. A devil on the run
Beary White ,   Norway   (10.16.11)
Israel as to start using death penalty for a terrorist who clearly has killed israelis. Then we will never have this situation again, releasing a devil. Pls tell me his whereabout and he will regret not being in an IDF prison.
36. Reply to #1
Yaacov ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.16.11)
Are you a little innocent child? Haled Mashal has already spoken very clearly about the fact that the terrorists released will go back to terrorism and murder. And with all due respect to the Mossad and the IDF, they cannot keep track of every prisoner. I also want to mention in general another thing. Gilad Shalit is being released after 5 years of terrible conditions without even visits from the Red Cross. Many of the terrorists are being released after completing education degrees through the Open University. Just compare the two. It is a mistake to make this deal. The world and the UN should force Gilad Shalit's freedom, or at least decent conditions and a time to be released, like the terrorists in Israeli jails.
37. We do feel your pain. We do!
Vered, Israel   (10.16.11)
I wish that the killer, the evil animal who was not ashamed to show his hands covered in your brother's blood to the crowd, because he knew the crowd was just as barbaric as he, could spend his life in prison. I also wish Gilad could come home, yes, almost at any price. I remember the day I saw this sickening photograph, and I do feel your pain. Don't feel that you are alone. So many people do feel your pain, but can't accept that it means throwing away another young life.
38. Total and unconditional surrender...
Dan the Jafa ,   Jafaland, Aotearoa   (10.16.11)
Israel has folded and it is now only a question of time until her vicious neighbors will kidnap tens of Gilad Shalits until Israel runs out of criminals for ransom. Then what? I mourn future Ilans today.
39. # 36
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.16.11)
Innocence? You really think Hamas would free Shalit if the UN & the world insisted? Never, ever in your wildest dreams. Why should Hamas improve the conditions of Shalit? who is holding a gun to their heads to force them to do this? Nobody. Hamas is a terrorist organization & they live by their own rules. Wake up & smell the coffee, will you.
40. Vered #37: This is what I don't understand...
Steve   (10.16.11)
You wish that the killer, the evil animal -- who was not ashamed to show his hands covered with Michael Norzich brother's blood to the crowd, because he knew the crowd was just as barbaric as he -- could spend his life in prison. Why don't you wish he would have been executed by strangulation or by some other means? I would go further. Why not do to him what he and the other barbarians did to Vadim Norzich? Why not execute him the same way his victim was murdered? Why don't we Jews believe in an eye for an eye anymore? Why do we wish those who behave as savages a long comfortable life in prison? What is happening to us as Jews?
41. Sorry Israel
Peter   (10.16.11)
but it's your own fault. He never should have make it as far as a courtroom.A death penalty would have spared you so much agony. After all you're at war a war without rules the sooner you realize that the better it is.
42. The lesson is
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (10.16.11)
do not make prisoners, kill them !!
43. A thousand times NO NO NO. Please G-D help Israel!
Linda Rivera ,   New York, USA   (10.16.11)
Only monsters free monsters.
44. #14 - Abbas Moderate? Look at PA text books and maps!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (10.16.11)
The PA and Hamas want exactly the same thing. The whole of Israel! They are simply trying different means.
45. to #40
Vered, Israel   (10.16.11)
I hear you. Technicality"(biblically, Jewish law), we never took an "eye for an eye" literally, ever, although we did have a death penalty. That phrase just meant just punishment, but mutal bodily damage was never inflicted. So, what I meant was that after the killers were convicted, according to our current law, life in jail was as severe as they could get, so I wanted them to get that. But yes, I feel the IDF would have been perfectly justified in shooting him, as this is warfare, despite the fact that terrorists don't wear uniforms.
46. # 42
frito lay ,   canada   (10.16.11)
what if they arrest the wrong person
47. To Rs (#10),
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (10.17.11)
What you ask pretty much sums it up. And, as horrible as it would be, I have no doubt that I'd let the scumbag murderer go free in order to save the son that it would still be possible to save.
48. To the anonymous poster #14
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (10.17.11)
You are correct that the palestinians and arabs in general will see this deal as evidence of Israel's weakness. But it's necessary and that is *precisely* why Israel has to act strongly (hunting season?) after the prisoner release.
49. To Yaakov (#36)
Joan ,   Haifa   (10.17.11)
Yes, the world and the UN *should* force the Palestinians to release Gilad, and in a perfect world they would, but it's *not going to happen*. So, do you have any other bright ideas about how Israel can obtain his release? I'd love to hear a good alternative to this painful deal.
50. Vered #45: the law needs to be changed.
Steve   (10.17.11)
I know what the rabbis say about it. I take it literally. There must be exceptions, of course. An Arab is executed if he is caught selling land to a Jew. If an Arab is suspected of providing intelligence to Israel he might be tortured and then executed. Americans support the death penalty for brutal murderers. Watch this clip from a recent GOP debate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xT1iMvTwYI What is wrong with us? In this respect America is more observant of the law of Moses than Israel's Jews? We should demand our government execute justice. We Jews should demand brutal terrorist murderers be summarily executed.
51. selfish bereaved
harvevgefen ,   toronto canada   (10.17.11)
the real price paid will be the 100s of innocents killedby the released .shalit will be freed so they will die.if your child is one of them you will not call the berieved selfish.they question the justice of this madness.if anyone will have blood on their hands it will be those that advocated the release of murderers.
52. THE TRAGEDY ...
FO ,   Belgium   (10.17.11)
The Tragedy of this Guilad Shalit affair didn't start now; it started the day after his abduction on Israeli territory. That day, the 26th of June 2006, the Gaza Strip should have been closed hermetically: no more water, food, electricity, fuel .. nothing. Israel not succumbing to international pressure, the world would put even more pressure on Hamas who would have to support even the vexation of its own population, starving because of one prisonner. I believe Guilad Shalit would have been freed rather quickly. But remember who was Prime Minister at that time ? The same who led Israel to half a defeat in the second Lebanon War as well as in operation Cast Lead. Why ? because as he told himself, he was "tired of fighting" . And Israel is "eating" Olmert's tiredness till today. What a difference with the "Entebbe Raid". Then being Prime Minister, Rabin had the guts to do what has been done. I profoundly regret the vandalizing of his memorial, because he was a man with a firm vision. Today we would consider his ideology situated at the right of Likud. He was opposed to negotiations with the PLO. He was opposed to the creation of a third state, a Palestinian state, that he considered as a time bomb, as well for Jordan as for Israel. He believed that the Palestinian issue would find its solution in a peace deal with Jordan in Jordan’s existing borders.(Quoted from an interview from Prime Minister Rabin in 1977.) Being pushed later in his back, he did things against his own ideology. The question remains: has Rabin been assassinated because he was too "left", or could it be that he has been assassinated because he was too "right" ???
53. barak's words
dan ,   israel   (10.17.11)
are worth less than toilet paper.
54. i'm so sorry dear bereved families
God Bless Familes   (10.17.11)
your loss is horrific and your pain must be beyond measure. the price to bring your and mine, as well as all of Israel's son, Gilad, home is so very high. Nonetheless, Gilad is alive and we MUST bring the son of Israel home. Please find it in your hearts to forgive us and be happy for Gilad. He has the right to try to rebuild his life. I am so VERY sorry for the horrific injustice perpetrated against you by the evil terrorists. May they all rot in hell.
