1. 'this does not mean we do not identify with the pain of the
rebecca ,   Modiin   (10.16.11)
'this does not mean we do not identify with the pain of the families'. It does not seem to mean that they do either. They have never before mentioned the "pain of the families" of those killed by the terrorists who are being released. And unless the translation is missing something, they are not saying they feel for these people now. It really has been only about the Shalits.
2. Tragic family experience
Paul ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.16.11)
but in the end the Shalit's are selfish and insensitive to the future of bereaved parents that will be the result of putting their grief above the nation. Sorry to say it, but it's the way it is.
3. Shameful
Joe Tango ,   USA   (10.16.11)
It is shameful and disrespectful to current terror victims families and future victims of terror from these terrorist that they are being released.I wonder how the Shalits will feel if these terrorist will kill someone else s child in the future. It is like the 911 planners being released.
4. I lost my daughter and ...
Doron ,   Israel   (10.16.11)
Yes , I lost my daughter ,in a terror attack , and have been doing all the possible that this doesn't happen to other families . Speeches , here in Israel and many countries .... My opinion about this deal ? I am truly confused , becausewho will win on this , is the terrorist groups , and for sure more soldiers will be sequestered . So , I suggest : free ALL terrorist in Israeli jails , and on the first terror attack , just erase Gaza . In the Middle East , as in the Middle East . We are not in Scandinavia ..... They understand force , so is time to act . Probably Lieberman was right , at the end of the day ..... Truly chocking , no ?
5. Shalits give new meaning selfishness
Mark Klein, Md ,   Oakland Ca   (10.16.11)
6. I am happy the Palestinians will be free....
Marco ,   Spain   (10.16.11)

The wrong decision! ,   Maurice   (10.16.11)
Rather than reliesing over 1000 savage terrorists, Israel should have tried to release Shalit through military action. Yes there is a risk and a price associated with any military action, but it is better than yielding to the terrorists and causing undescribable pain and disrespect to the relatives of those murdered by these barbaric terrorists.
8. Shalit deal is indefensible. This isn't how to free captives
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.16.11)
The Shalit deal is indefensible in every respect. It rewards terror. There is no doubt that Hamas will find plenty of new recruits following this lunatic deal. It's a fantastic deal for terrorists; terror without any price! The deal would free more than 1,000 murderous terrorists; launch an untold number of future terrorist atrocities and claim heaven only knows how many more maimed and murdered victims. This isn't how to rescue captives. Bomb Hamas into oblivion. Execute "Palestinian" captives till Shalit is freed. Stop all food, water and electricity to Gaza. Make the terrorists pay for their atrocities. Don't reward them!
9. Gilad is still alive.
NOA ,   Israel   (10.16.11)
10. identifing with pain of others? really???
Dixie ,   Israel   (10.16.11)
The Shalits have not in the past years thought for one millisecond of the feelings of anyone except their own pain. Then Noam Shalit has the uber-gross insensitivity to pray that Allah will watch over his son's good health. And only then does immaleh kvetch out that their outrageous hutzpa in begging bereaved families not to exercise their right to pitiful Court petitions to think over this deal of letting so many urepentant mass murderers free does not mean that the Shalits "do not identify with the pain" of these families. So what does it mean? K'sh'ani l'atzmi, ma li? What happened to Israel? I now live in Chelm.
11. The Shalit family is just plain selfish, sad to say
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (10.16.11)
Israel should kidnap Ismael Haniyeh and Khaled Mashaal and demand Shalit in return for them. Those shmucks are probably so cruel they'd sacrifice their two leaders for one Israeli boy. Shows who we're dealing with. It also shows the relative value of a Jew and a Moslem.
12. any future prisoner swap
Arnold ,   Canada   (10.16.11)
1 to 1 no matter who. this must be agreed to by the IDF and any future government. set the rule NOW before it is too late.
13. Your son?
Neal ,   Minneapolis, Minn.,   (10.16.11)
These posts express a legitimate point of view, but the anger in most of them is misplaced. Redeeming captives is a very important mitzva, and I don't think the unfortunately huge cost of bringing Gilad home should be put on the account of his family. If Gilad were my son, I'd be willing to pay any price to redeem him from imprisonment of the terrorists -- and I'll bet most of the angry Israelis would, too. I've no lack of sympathy for the families of terror victims, and I can understand their unhappiness and anger at seeing the killers of their loved ones released. But going to court to block the deal shows enormous selfishness; nothing, including continued incarceration of terrorists, will return the lives of terror victims. Buying Gilad back, even at such a high price, is saving a life, for which we are allowed to break all but three commandments. Might the freed terrorists strike again? yes. But even continuing to hold them -- at great expense, by the way -- doesn't mean that others aren't trying to attack. And these terrorists have been deprived of liberty for at least a few years, so they're not getting off free. Yes, the families of their victims have a life sentence. But leaving these terrorists in prison, and leaving Gilad to die, won't reduce the "sentence" of grieving for a single day.
14. Shalits give new meaning selfishness
Mark Klein, Md ,   Oakland Ca   (10.17.11)
15. Shalits Identify?
Bruria   (10.17.11)
I highly doubt it. In all this time has there ever been any mention of the boys who died the day Shalit was kidnapped? Any sympathy for their families? Nope--only the Shalits, who went round the word to pressure Israel but not Hamas. Now he says inshallah and claims to identify? Give me a break.
16. Duty
Maj. BK Winters ret. ,   Edmonton Canada   (10.17.11)
No swap...Gilad Schalit had te duty not to be taken alive. His family had the duty to remain stoic for interests of the nation. 1000 killers for one soldier is wrong. I'd like to ask the Schalits...what happens next time? This deal smacks of cowardice.
17. shalit
harvey ,   toronto canada   (10.17.11)
it isa matter of life or death. the life of shalit or the life of 100s of innocents in the future .this is the real quid pro quo.
18. shalit
sad ,   israel   (10.17.11)
the family is selfish, unfriendly. It is VERY sad...........to release these prisoners. Any terror attack from tomorow on - the BLAME is the Shalit family................... Let them go and inform the families of the killed and wounded.
19. guaranteed future murders from these 1027 unrepentant
Hippocrates ,   earth   (10.17.11)
self congratulating child killers. anyone thinking otherwise needs to up their medication subscrition and face reality. these murderers will be involved in many future murders. the previous deal that released similar numbers resulted in 231 murders of jewish civilians. you can expect those let go now to do the same. this is absurd, irrational, and shameful. As for Gilad, we must take hamas leaders and do an exchange; them for him...
