1. Well ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.23.11)
While the United States under the current administration may be a paper tiger, Israel most assuredly is not. Do keep that in mind. Israel can bring it. We probably should.
2. Brodsky a fool for thinking America is a "paper tiger"
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.23.11)
What an embarrassment that the "director of policy at the Jewish Policy Center" would actually pen the words "paper tiger" to describe his own country. America is no paper tiger. Not even close. America is very much a caged tiger. Brodsky should be ashamed that he forgets his basic history - don't piss America off too much, because when the tiger is pissed, it is still the world's #1 power. American's have indeed been lulled yet again into thinking that "diplomacy" can get the Iranians back on the track of civilized nations. That should be Brodsky's real point, yet he gets all politically incorrectly tied up in thinking that America is a paper tiger for not crushing Iran now. If needed, the tiger will awake and crush Iran if needed.
3. AMERICA IS NO PAPER TIGER AMERICA IS USING ISRAEL AS BUFFER
RUBEN ,   GUANGZHOU   (10.23.11)
4. Tell Congress
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (10.23.11)
There are limits on what the White House can do, especially with the US military scheduled by Congress to be cut 10% in November - right along with the rest of the US government. Threatening war is out of the question for the US. Maybe you didn't notice, but our current military is tied up. And that preemptive stuff didn't and doesn't work for the US. Iran also has a population 3 times that of Iraq and three times the Iraq casualties is not acceptable to a lot of Americans. Holder is going where he has evidence - evidence is a strange concept for a political town. When is Israel going to get tough and put a few hundred thousand troops on ships in the Persian Gulf as a credible show of seriousness? And a few dozen ships?
5. Get serious with Iran / 2 Brian
Adam ,   london / Zichron Y   (10.23.11)
Spot on Brian of the Popular Front Of Judea. What the President states is not neccessarily the whole story of action taken against those slimy Clerics.
6. Nr 2.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (10.23.11)
Karate is in the Head, Not in Great or Big Power. Nr. 1. has the point here. Great and Big capacity without the Will to use it, do make up for a Papertiger. When one compares a Psycopath and a Softie, you always know where you have the Psychopath. The Softie with Great and Big power in Powepolitic, is a dangerous and unstable Player on the Worldscene, because for his unpredictability. As the Communists said - Go forward with the Bayonette, if you meet softness continue, if you meet Steel, withdraw. ' Arn.Sweden.
7. Nr.4.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (10.23.11)
When is Israel going to get tough and put a few hundred thousand troops on ships in the Persian Gulf as a credible show of seriousness? And a few dozen ships? Mark of Lewiston , USA (10.23.11) Comment - This is not a Question of troops, but air power. The US military power required, is already in the Persian Gulf and Turkey. The Israeli ships are also already in the Persian Gulf, but it is the US who hinders the Israeli Military strike. But if Israel perceives that the US will never strike Iran, Israel will sertainly do it alone. Arn.
8. Alternate - US in Persian Gulf
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (10.23.11)
The US has forces surrounding Iran. Where are the Israeli troops and ships? How many hundred thousand troops is Israel sending to the Persian Gulf? How many ships? Holder is pursuing EVIDENCE, as an Attorney General should. You want more. Put yourself at risk. Why are you not in the Gulf? Are your kids serving in the USMC or US Navy?
9. ***Sarah***at 1, From next year on, the
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.23.11)
Iraqi airspace will NO LONGER be controlled by a paper tiger...
10. Mark of Lewiston #8 how about you?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.23.11)
Have you ever done anything but whine about us? Have you put on a uniform and placed yourself between your enemies and your people? Both my eldest daughter and son-in-law served in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan? Got any children that have ever done anything for America? I served in the US Army, as did my father and father-in-law, my grandfather, great grandfather, etc. How about your family?
11. IRAN
Tom   (10.23.11)
knows that America is not a paper tiger. They know how to lull them, but this will be over soon. From Hitler to Saddam , America has shown its capacities.
12. Arn - oriental martial arts does not describe America
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.23.11)
Forget your karate analogies, Arn. America is better defined by the Americans themselves: "Speak softly and carry a big stick". Ain't nobody got a bigger stick than America. They proved this in both world wars in the 20th century. Read your history - it took a lot of prodding to get America to be a real tiger, not a paper tiger. Once the tiger awoke, it was American might that made the difference. Nothing has changed. The Americans are still reluctant to launch into a military confrontation with Iran, but if they are force, they will. And they will win.
13. Ahmadimonkey is innocent (!) others did it.
Nora Tel Aviv   (10.23.11)
(End).
14. Nr 12.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (10.23.11)
You are kicking in open doors and dont see my point - Nothing has changed. The Americans are still reluctant to launch into a military confrontation with Iran, but if they are force, they will. And they will win. Brian Cohen , Judean Peoples Front (10.23.11) - nothing of my comment contradicts you in neither nr 4 or 12., or dont you understand this - "The Softie with Great and Big power in Powepolitic, is a dangerous and unstable Player on the Worldscene, because for his unpredictability". It is dangerous to have Great and big powers if not used, if you have them you are also obligied befor God to use them in a Rightous way. To have them and dont use them sends the wrong signals to the Psychopats, because they understand the logic of Power but not softness. And when the softies reacts, they do it not in a Proffessional way as the Psychopats, but as an Amateur and that is, they Explode unpredictably by sentimentality. Arn.Sweden
15. Brian Cohen / 12
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (10.23.11)
Many things have changed since both world wars. Back then our money was backed by gold and silver and because of that we didn't have to worry about inflation. With the advent of the Fereral Reserve Bank all that changed. Back then our goods were made in America. We invented new technology and built it here. No country on earth could match our industial capacity or exceed the quality of our products. Now we have sent our jobs and the fruit of our technology overseas. The only thing here in America that is growing and thriving is big corporations and big government. Americans have become complacent and as long as they are entertained they seem to care about little else. They don't question things like why Europeans have cars that get much better gas milage or why cars like the Geo Metro circa 1990 could easily get 50 miles per gallon and seat 4 people and have trunk space. That car could get 45 miles per gallon in the city. Name one car today that will do it on the highway. The United States Of America is a great country but once upon a time so was Rome, Great Britain, France, Spain etc. We need to be careful we don't end up like that.
16. Hey Markyboy #8
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.23.11)
Using your logic I guess that your Commander in Chief should have no say in the matter either, considering the fact that he never served or has any family member that has EVER served. You come on to an Israeli newspaper every day and tell us what we should do in our country. Have you ever even been here? Have you served in the IDF? I am applying your standards to you and I find that you come up way short of mouthing off to us. I find it remarkable that you create a standard that you can in no way meet and apply it to us, where our civilians are far more likely to have been involved in combat than more than 90% of your military. I seriously doubt that there is one person in this country that has not been involved in an act of terrorism, either as a victim, witness, friend or family member of a victim. We KNOW far more about the subject than you will ever know
17. Paper tiger?...
rob ,   Orangevale Ca. USA   (10.23.11)
Even a 2nd grader can tell you that paper can burn you. All that is necessary is the fire. To call names never really matters to us. To attack us is quite another kettle of fish. If the fools in Tehran ever 'ignite' the paper tiger, they will be burned beyond recognition. This is a warning from the people that live within the 'paper tiger'. If WE ever feel threatened, WE will see to your annihilation. History will help those in doubt with understanding this very lethal truth. It is in our history to speak softly, but be proficient in the use of a very big stick. Let em think about it . We have the time to generate the response, and the means to get it done. Shalom Israel. Rob
18. 10 - Yes, Gee
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (10.23.11)
I was drafted for Vietnam. One son served three tours in al Anbar in Iraq with the Airforce. One son served in the Gulf in the navy. One daughter in Iraq with the US Navy training the Iraqi Navy - 3 tours, then Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Djibouti and chasing Somali pirates - she's currently in the Gulf region with her ship. My father served in WWII and Korea. My Grandfather died of WWI wounds from Mustard. I can trace it back to Civil War and American Revolutions - both.
19. Sorry, Arn, but the Americans are predictable
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.23.11)
""The Softie with Great and Big power in Powerpolitic, is a dangerous and unstable Player on the Worldscene, because for his unpredictability". I don't see America as "dangerous and unstable", but the Iranians most certainly are. Iranians don't consider themselves to be "softies" - and we certainly don't.
20. Si, #12
Cameron ,   USA   (10.23.11)
Many in the world have become exceedingly spoiled & apathetic expecting the Yanks to sacrifice blood and treasure on their behalf. We exercise our strength in a manner and time of our choosing. We serve our own ends.
21. To: Cameron at No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.23.11)
Your serving your own ends hasn't gone all that well, has it? Must I spell "Somalia" for you yet again?
22. #8 mark, #20 cameron
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.23.11)
"Put yourself at risk". Whether in the IDF or not, Israelis are at risk every day, every minute. The IDF and US Armed Forces are at risk even more so. Kol Hakavod to your family. But when it comes to civilian life, Israelis are definitely at risk; Not like we Americans who can go about our lives, being [reasonably] sure all will be well. Oh, and Cameron: keep in mind that Israel never expected and never wants Americans to sacrifice their blood on Israel's behalf. And they (we) never have.
23. #2 - You are misreading
Maurice ,   Montreal   (10.23.11)
Brodsky only describes how the Iranians will views the US (i.e. as a "paper tiger") if proper measures are not taken. He never said the US actually IS a paper tiger. He is correct.
24. America isn't a paper tiger, but
W. ,   Beirut, LB   (10.23.11)
Obama is one hell of a coward who couldn't take any decision
25. "Jewish Policy Center" is a front for the GOP
Politackler ,   Miami, US   (10.24.11)
Mr. Brodsky is a front man for the Republican Jewish Coalition, with which the Jewish Policy Center is affiliated. In other words, he is slamming the president of the US in a foreign newspaper from a purely partisan perspective. I wonder how Israelis (who always complain about American Jews interfering in Israeli politics) would like it if an Israeli attacked Prime Minister Netanyahu in the name of an Israeli high-sounding think tank, and failed to disclose that the organization was a branch of an opposing political party. Y-Net, please stay OUT OF U.S. PARTISAN POLITICS!
26. It won't happen till Obama is mercifully gone in 2012.
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.24.11)
There are three things Obama is serious about: 1) Controlling and destroying the American economy. 2) Bashing Israel. 3) Empowering Moslem leaders and possibly delivering America to them. Getting serious about Iran has no place in the Obama agenda. It will have to wait till Obama is mercifully gone in 2012. Meanwhile, Israel must act to stop the Mad Mullahs.
27. Sarah
Cameron ,   USA   (10.24.11)
Must I, in turn, remind you of Southern Lebanon? How many years did Israel spend screwing around there, and what a fiasco it all was before the IDF bolted back over the border? Content yourselves with the occasional assassination & computer virus where Persia is concerned.
28. Mark and Cameron have it right...
lauraT ,   Chicago   (10.24.11)
Perhaps the Obama Administration is still investigating exactly who was behind the plot? Maybe they are seeking evidence before acting? Perhaps they have learned that the plot didn't originate at the highest levels of the Iranian government. Regardless, investigating this properly takes time (and nothing would be worse than acting without solid evidence.) This really shouldn't be a mystery, and doesn't seem to be to any except the article's author and a few disgruntled talkbackers who seem to want the US to take care of (another) of Israel's problems.
29. Nr 19.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (10.24.11)
You still dont understand the difference between the Softie/Chamberlaining Obamas Policy, which for every sober mind has for a long time been considered a Failure. This on the one hand - and on the Other - And a Firm Hardline Policy, which should have dealth with Iran a lond time ago. This has given the Iranian Psychopats Years - time for in advance prepere for the conflictthey they know will come. Thus - I don't see America as "dangerous and unstable", but the Iranians most certainly are. - the US is just by this policy of Obama, seen as unstable by the leverage of time they have given the Iranians, and therefore Dangerous because of the Much bigger Conflict that will ensue, Just the same case as with Hitler-Germany. Iranians don't consider themselves to be "softies" - and we certainly don't. Brian Cohen , Judean Peoples Front Whom is WE - You and Obama ? By - !. Arn.Sweden.
30. Nr 20.
Arn.Sweden.   (10.24.11)
Many in the world have become exceedingly spoiled & apathetic expecting the Yanks to sacrifice blood and treasure on their behalf. We exercise our strength in a manner and time of our choosing. We serve our own ends. Cameron , USA (10.23.11) It is Written - "You shall love Your neighbour as Yourself" !. Do you Yanks think that the Smaller Boys shall sacrifice themself For the Big One, or do You think it is the other way around - ?. Shall the Sheepherder Sacrifice Himself in Action against the Wolves, or should the Sheepherder sacrifice the Sheeps to the Wolves. We exercise our strength in a manner and time of our choosing. We serve our own ends. If that is the Case - GO HOME YANKS !. Arn.Sweden.
