It may well be of a nuclear submarine; but nuclear in the sense of nuclear propulsion. The Dolphin would be categorized as a nuclear armed (if that happens) diesel-electric submarine.
2. Well, I should certainly hope so
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.31.11)
The world was too cowardly to do anything to prevent a nuclear Iraq. The world is too cowardly to do anything to prevent a nuclear Iran. As always -- the world leaves the dirty work to Israel. Scum, all of you. But we will take care of things. We always do.
3. Finally some sense
Joe Tango ,   USA   (10.31.11)
Finally someone is listening Israel needs to fight against any Military or economic or any other existence threat.
4. Insomnia in Iran

Maybe this is why the monkey president sleep fitfully these days.
5. God Bless Israels Nukes

I sleep good at night knowing Israel has WMDS, they should be the only country allowed to have them

This weekend's Spiegel: "German government is threatening to halt the delivery of a submarine capable of firing nuclear warheads in protest of the Israeli government's recent decision to build new homes in the Arab part of Jerusalem" ,...
7. never trust the guardian
zionist forever   (10.31.11)
The Guardian is not famed for its pro Israel stance. Yes Israel has Jericho 3 ICBMS .. I am sure the point of mentioning the fact they are actually ICBMS is designed to cause controversy. Israel has nukes and ICBMS which its improving. A little fact they got wrong is that submarines 4 & 5 are not under construction in Germany. They were delivered to Israel in 2009 and have been fitted out with Israeli systems and undergoing sea trials. They are expected to enter service in 2012. The Dolphins might have a long range but I imagine the much bigger Iranian Kilo Class subs have a greater range and they can certainly stay submerged longer. Israel has a submarine maintenance based at an old Soviet naval base electronic warfare station in Eritrea which is how Israel can travel for longer distances without worrying about refueling and combat UAVS in Kurdistan so Israel's reach now stretches much further than it once did. Now all we need is some kind of airbase in a country like Greece of Cyprus. Pilots can train there, Israeli will be more able to take wars to its enemies like Turkey long before they get anywhere near Israel. An airbase abroad Israel is something Israel needs because of its small size because in an age of missiles its very possible runways & airbases could be destroyed before we could get planes in the air. Keep a couple of planes abroad where they can be recalled in an emergency and the pilots can hold regular exercises with the host country. Time to operate a strategy of perimeters so we can deal with enemies as far from Israel as possible.
8. Guardian not a reliable source
DavidM ,   USA   (10.31.11)
When it comes to Israel the Guardian is not a reliable source. Its bias against Israel is well known and well documented. Guardian columnist Deborah Jane Orr infamously used the trade for Gilad Shalit as an excuse to accuse Jews of thinking they are a chosen people and superior to Gentiles. Nothing in the Guardian should be taken seriously.
9. Since when does the Guardian tell the truth?
Scott ,   USA   (10.31.11)
10. israel can do nothing
inja   (10.31.11)
israel can do nothing but barking. it has so many domestic problems and no country likes israel
11. Israel should allow an Iranian nuclear first strike
Stephen in New York   (10.31.11)
to demonstrate Israeli patience and understanding. Then Israel will enjoy the world's affection and approval. For sure.

Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (10.31.11)
Well in that case we'll just have to manufacture our own, won't we? If anyone's got the ability to do so, we have. And just how do you equate nuclear submarines with building homes anywhere in our capital city? God's sake??
13. The Guardian
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (10.31.11)
The guardian is just about the most anti-Israel newspaper in Britain. Unfortunately it is not deemed a 'rag' or gutter press, but a 'respectable' newspaper read by seemingly intelligent people, which makes the lies and bias it writes even more dangerous.
14. #6 Split.
Vlad   (10.31.11)
Germany is already building two more submarines for Israel, and they will be delivered. It's a sixth submarine that the Germans are threatening to withhold. Israel will still have five nuclear submarines in it's navy. Israel could easily pay for the sixth submarine if it really wants to. Germany is now threatening to withhold partial funding for it, but that funding is only a bribe so that Israel would look the other way as Germany trades with Iran. Israel can easily contract a shipyard to build it a sixth sub and pay for it, but it will now openly reveal Germany's collaboration with Iran.
15. 12 - And just how do you equate nuclear submarines ,...

Ask the Germans. I think that they don't like you are fed oup with your chutzpa and looking for an excuse ,...

Geekay ,   Canada   (10.31.11)
How about we demonstrate our patience and understanding by allowing a nuclear strike on your neighbourhood, then for sure your neighbourhood will enjoy the worlds approval...... Stephen, I'm sorry to say this, but you are an idiot.
17. #16 Actually Stephen's neighborhood is the main target.

Five out of the potential six subs are already in Israel, the last two are being fitted with Israeli systems & modified to carry nukes and are due to be delivered to the navy in 2012. The threat to cancel the sale of the sixth, its not going to happen. It doesn't look good on Germany because they committed themselves to Israel's securuty and so this won't look good on Angela Merkal if she cancels an arms sale over the building of homes in Jerusalem. Whilst Germany is providing a subsidy Israel is paying the bulk of cost for this sub ( new money coming into Germany ). HDW who build the subs will not be happy if Angela Merkal cancels a major contract just because Israel is building homes in Jerusalem. If your an employee of HDW on election day will you be happy of angry with Angela Merkal for cancelling that contract? If contracts have been signed the German government may have to compensate HDW. It won't look good on Germany in general as an arms supplier if contracts are canceled over client states domestic political issues. Angela Merkal won't cancel this contract, its not good for her image and may cost her votes.
20. #16-thanx for clarifying things.

I had no idea a 5 megaton airburst would be so nasty.

22. So ? ,...

At least the Iranians pay for their orders and unlike your V-column in US Congress the Germans do what's good for Germans ,... "but it will now openly reveal Germany's collaboration with Iran?
23. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.31.11)
So what? Israel has a very competent naval and submarine fleet. Besides, I am fairly certain that the article was published in an effort to mollify Germany's loud, unpleasant and vicious Arab and Moslem minority. Note the vote in UNESCO. Israel will get the submarine. Have no fear.
24. #6 Spli - Not to worry
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (10.31.11)
srael has already prepared for that contingency She learned that after France refused to ship the boats that Israel had already paid for, that she has to rely on herself Rest assured, Israel has been able to update her current subs There is no "Arab Part of Jerusalem" In fact, Jerusalem was never mentioned in the Koran, nor was Palestine for that matter . Cherbourg Project - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherbourg_Project The boats had been paid for by the Israeli government but had not been delivered due to the ... Navy crews were sent to France in early 1965. ... The French president did not want to escalate the situation by adding additional .... The French chief of staff refused to obey and replied he would resign rather than obey the order Split, nothing quite like a little ignorance, yours goes a long way
25. If the Guardian just got the news, Israel has the blueprints

#12- your opinion. Enough said. #22- and the US does what's good for the US. Didn't you read those TB's sent you about what the US gets from Israel? (no, I didn't think so)
28. Capabilities
Don Schreiber ,   Missouri, US   (11.01.11)
Keep improving your capabilities. Make sure that your evil and murderious enemies, and those who have colluded with them know what you're capable of.
29. Why German?
Dennis D ,   NJ USA   (11.01.11)
The USA doesn't build good Submarines? Don't we give Israel billions in foriegn aid? Why are the subs not being built by Americans?
30. China & Russia Want Israel to attach!!
Tom Genin ,   Seymour US   (11.01.11)
China & Russia would love for Israel to attack. It would destabilize the west, cause a war against US interests, and make them more relevant. Why would they help the US?
