rest of the EU member states should do the same and cease sustaining an organization that gives legitimacy to people who continue to fire rockets at the civilian population of a fellow member state of UNESCO, Israel. While the children, the elderly, men and women of all ages and walks of life run for cover in the face of Grad, Qassam and mortars from "Palestine", UNESCO, cynically, accept these thugs as a "state". It is high time the world stopped this cynicism before it is too late...!!!!!!

William ,   Israel   (10.31.11)
What keeps Iran or China from making the donation and coming out smelling like a rose, at the detriment to the US? Yes, the US stood up for justice and freedom, but since when has politics been about justice?
5. Could this be a win situation for the US?
William ,   Israel   (10.31.11)
cancel the entire 22% donation to UNESCO and hand it off to some causes that concern the Occupy Whatever movements. The US stops funding an Arab program, the people of the US gets additional cash for whatever social programs, and the US govt looks good.
6. Secretary Ban concerned
John ,   Alaska   (10.31.11)
The article reads: "UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his concern over Washington's decision to cut UNESCO's funding, saying the move may also affect the funding granted to the agency by other nations." One can only hope. The US still has considerable influence in the world; hopefully our action will help the UNESCO reverse this foolish decision.
7. Irony of ironies....
EST ,   Miami USA   (10.31.11)
The UN's Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization has just voted to recognize terrorists who are bent on establishing another sharia based theocracy in the Middle East...if that doesn't beat all!!!Centuries of backward thinking have just been rewarded by the organization that is supposed to bring them onward to the 21st century...not the other way around...trying to push us back centuries!!!

Devorah   (10.31.11)
Russia voted in favor of "palestine" becoming a member of UNESCO. Therefore, Russia indicates a conflict of interest since it is a member of the anti-Semitic Quartet. Therefore, Israel should have nothing to do with that hate-filled bunch of jackals from the pits of hell other than to tell them to get lost and stay lost.
10. UNESCO
daz ,   uk   (10.31.11)
Just goes to show that America is loosing it's standing in the world when an organisation like UNESCO stands up to them. Times are certainly changing for the better.

The UN has been needing a good rap upside the head for a good long time. They were explicitly warned, and now the money is gone. Let others pick up the tab from now on.

Those 60m are the salaries of the famouse useless "experts" or is better to call them by name UN MERCENARIES which half of them are Americans! :) this is a victory for PALESTINE habibi :)

When it comes to an organization such as UNESCO, the ersatz "Palestinians" would not experience much in the way of opposition. That is how UNESCO is oriented; its anti-Semitism and virulent anti-Israel sentiment is well known. Far more telling is the rather large number of abstentions -- countries that do not want to alienate rather large and frequently violent Arab and Moslem minorities -- but that do not wish to support the ersatz "Palestinians" either. That is why the ersatz "Palestinian" bid for recognition at the United Nations has gone so badly. Remember? It was all supposed to happen -- in theory -- in mid-September. Here we are, verging on November, and they still cannot muster up the necessary votes. Countries may be stupid, but not all are dumb. And no one really thinks that an independent ersatz "Palestinian" state is a particularly good idea. For starters, where would you put it? But the United States has turned off the spigot. Canada and Germany will shortly follow suit, as willl likely all of the countries that voted against the resolution and the countries that abstained. I wonder who will pick up the slack. Likely, no one, and UNESCO will go the way of the woolly mammoth.

Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (10.31.11)
Should the UN decide to grant the Palestinians full membership in the General Assembly then US law requires the US to cut off close to $3 billion in direct financial contributions made to the UN.
21. UNESCO IS A PART OF THE UN
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (10.31.11)
U.S. should cancel its 22% contribution to the UN, which is the only thing that keeps the UN solvent After the UN building in NY is vacated, it would make for a rather large Flea Market, s hasn't been good for anything else since it was first built
22. It's not like UNESCO wasn't warned this would happen
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.31.11)
Obama of course had no choice. It's the law. If it were up to him, he would have tried to find a away around the ban. Good thing Congress left him no out. Cong. Ros-Lehtinen is pushing broader legislation that would pull funding from the UN if they recognize Palestinian statehood short of a peace agreement with Israel. It's got multiple Republican backers, but not a single Democrat, because Obama and Clinton oppose the measure.
23. Time for UNESCO to cut costs,
seadog1946 ,   ErieBasin, NYC   (10.31.11)
drop some pointless/political/PC World Heritage sites and then look to Russia, China, South Asia, etc. where UNESCO's cachet would be "appreciated".
24. The UN supports Terrorists!
robby ,   Califronia, USA   (10.31.11)
When does the UN support of of the PA and denial of all state rights of Isreal by the UN stop? At this point there is a good case for declaring the UN a terrorist supporting institution. Defund the UN!!
25. Let's France pay for it..They got Libya so they have money..
Asher ,   NY,USA   (10.31.11)
26. Good start. Now, kick the UN out of NYC and let's get out

of the UN and stop funding it entirely.

28. #22 - The UN is basically a Leftist abomination
William ,   Israel   (11.01.11)
It was created to replace the faulty League of Nations, based on a Utopian democracy which exists no where except in theory. The Greeks brought us Democracy and for hundreds of years no one, not even the Greeks, have been able to make it work properly. The UN is a bastardized ivory tower full of politics and closed-door deal making amid threats and promises. Nothing close to democracy nor social justice drives that entity. One need only see the crimes UN members and their police force have committed around the world, like rape, extortion, indirect murder, aid to terrorists, money laundering, and circumventing the very sanctions they voted in place. Because of their corruption, they don't even follow their own charter which makes stipulations for new States, and holds the UN to follow every decry from the League of Nations to the letter from the point the UN was established. I'd rather house every homeless in NYC in that building, and give the Occupy Wall Street protesters a warm place to bed down this winter than to have foreign trolls in that building wasting time and money of the global community.
29. I SAY LET'S MOVE UN TO IRAQ OR LYBIA
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (11.01.11)
OR EVEN BETTER, WEST BANK. And ask Suadi prince to fund it. He buys diamond decorated MBZ all the time. He sure can afford it. Or maybe the Arab League can build their own UNESCO. Sorry, but I had to have some fun with this piece of news.
30. Now close down the UN in New york!!!
rachel ,   usa   (11.01.11)
Its just a social club for dictators anyway!!
