Several years ago a number of Hispanic legislators from New York went on a fact-finding trip to Israel, and I remember reading that one of them said that among the most surprising things he discovered about Israel was that it seemed as if nearly all the Israeli cab drivers spoke Spanish...or probably Ladino in some cases.

but NYC girl please do bear in mind that unlike in the USA people in Israel learn foreign languages for work purposes. So there are people here who speak English, Spanish, German, Arabic, French etc etc (Sadly Ladino is a language we are fast losing)
