1. The Song of the Sirens
soldier ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.22.11)
Now some rabbis exerce the Sirens's role in the Greek mithology. To fascinate and drag us down to the bottom of the sea
2. More medevil rantings from the religious
Haim ,   TA   (11.22.11)
Hopefully one day they will find a cure for this disease known as religion
3. Indeed as soon as men are not forced to hear them !
Trumpeldor   (11.22.11)
Respect of both sides will guarantee harmony in a diverse society .
4. This is not about Womens rights...
gedaliah   (11.22.11)
the issue is not about womens rights. there is not one person who is trying to shut up women singers. the issue is in regards to the rights of people who hold onto a religious belief and moral code which says that a womens singing voice is not modest to hear. Agree or disagree, this is irrelavant. the relavancy is the right of those in the audience to choose to stay or choose to walk out.
5. If female soldiers decided to strip publicly, like...
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (11.22.11)
those women who ignorantly support that feminist in Egypt, would the religious male soldiers be forced to watch it? All they want is to be exempt from something they consider immodest.
6. Horny on a Song and a prayer
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.11)
Miriam Sang Devorah Sang Why do randy Rabbis nowadays do not want listeners to get horny when listening to women? Is it for fear they might start to plat tunes on their hand harp?
7. Women's Rights to Sing
Nili   (11.22.11)
Yes, they should be allowed to sing, but also in the name of freedom of rights, those who do not wish to hear them should be given the option to do an alternate duty. There is no need to have such a ballygan. It is a solvable problem! After all, I thought the IDF was there to protect us--Not Entertain Us!
8. sacred and profane
yosef ,   memphis   (11.22.11)
I am a combat veteran and served with women in a limited capacity, am Haredi, try my best to observe the laws of Negiah but also understand there are certain limitations beyond my realm that may not be considered sacred or profane to others as they are to me. As long as there is no scheme to subvert the sanctity between two persons in a chance meeting than I am not offended. However, if a friend purposefully approaches me with the intent of disrespecting my choice of shomer negiah then it is wrong. Likewise, if the Maj-General and others are using the laws of Negiah to "prove a point" then it is wrong - and so too are the Rabbis. This issue must be solved immediately and it can be taylored to suit the Haredi and secular members of Tzahal. The testosterone and estrogen need to be muktzah.
9. The ultra's put the IDF and the State in dire jeapordy
JEWishness ,   AMERICA THE BEAUTIUL   (11.22.11)
The ortho's Are killing Israel By their myopia... Their overbearing stifling of Jewish seculars' thoughts and their overly religious extreme habits/demands on others, are making the IDF stumble and fall and can soon lead to defeat...All because of the strangling of The rights of others who are not as crazed as these religious antiquaries and their insane followers..... When and If Israel is defeated, you'll blame the extremophiles for it's loss. But too late. IDF must not bow down to the tyrannical threats of IRAN SYRIA or HEREDI extremophiles.
10. Let women sing
Sue ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.11)
No one is opposed to women Singing in a performance. But it is against basic halacha for a man to hear singing in a live performance by women outside of his immediate family .So let them sing but don't force religious men to break this clear halacha .
11. Separation
John C. ,   Tennessee, U.S.A.   (11.22.11)
I'm curious. I've never read anything in Torah, the Prophets or Writings prohibiting or excluding women. If anyone has anything could you please share.
12. General Barbi the Bimbet is more concerned
Al   (11.22.11)
whether soldiers can sing than whether they can shoot straight. Oh my jolly how the IDF has fallen. You people are insane.
13. You bitch the religious don't serve then crap in their face
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.22.11)
with women singing forced on them. If you want religious men to serve, then fine, just allow them to exit when women sing. That is reasonable accommodation just as serving kosher food instead of shrimp. This is NOT rocket science.
14. Barvibai and Glantz so wrong
JDK ,   NYC USA   (11.22.11)
15. singing
colin   (11.22.11)
It is wondeful to hear our female soldiers bearing thier responsiilities and still give us a song The easiest way to stop this abnormanl phenominen would be to GET RID OF ALL THE DATIM. They only cause troubles wherever they be.
16. women's right to sing
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (11.22.11)
Yes, women do have the right to sing, but I also have the right not to be forced to listen.
17. Human rights
Gila ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (11.22.11)
No-one is doubting women's rights to sing, but by the same token, observant Jews have the right to have their religious needs respected. Halacha stipulates that men are not allowed to listen to women singing in person, and therefore no-one has the right to demand that male soldiers cannot leave such a performance. Such an order is totally inappropriate, and if given it needs to be disobeyed. This is not a personal decision or option and is not open to discussion. Observant Jews follow halacha, period. Human rights work both ways.
18. Foolishness !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (11.22.11)
Earlier this week, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Benny Gantz expressed his discontent over comments made by Samaria Chief Rabbi Elyakim Levanon against forcing religious soldiers to attend official ceremonies which include the performance of women. Comment - Why force Private Soldiers to denie their faith and Ideology. Why force Ones own Ideology and oppinion on anybody ?. This has nothing to do with Military Matters or sevice. As Written is - " Where the Spirit of HASHEM is there are Freedom " !!!. Equality has nothing to do with Deeds because Equal is something both genders are, not something they do, as is written - " He made them Male and Female " . It is the Man and the Woman who is the Human being and none of them apart. The Woman is the Queen and the Man the King, and boths Tasks can not be taken over by the other one. Those two are One and cant be separated and Compared. Equality and Gender Equality Bouth stand on Equal foting as a Coin has two sides, but not the same task. Patriotism belongs to the Man and can be callet the Father the State the King thus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2vGBY7nXx8 Nationalism belongs to the Woman and can be called the Mother the Nation The Queen, the last One here is Zion the Heavenly Jeruslen The Mother of the People of God Thus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8Co7IzOyhw&feature=fvst http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eSdop0rG7Y Vers nr 5 Psalm 87 (21st Century King James Version) Page Options Add parallel << < = = > >> Show resources Psalm 87 21st Century King James Version (KJ21) Psalm 87 His foundation is in the holy mountains. 2The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. 3Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God! Selah 7Singers as well as players on instruments shall be there and say, "All my springs are in thee." Arn.Sweden.
19. sing but dont force us to Listen
paul ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.22.11)
I am more than happy for you to sing, but please do not force your Ideals on to me. I have the right to not listen if i so choose.
20. As long as these are OUR defence forces anyone with a voice
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.22.11)
will and can sing at any place! End of discussion. The followers of the Great Invisible One in the Sky can blow their Shofar or something else....
21. Where in G-ds rules does it forbid seeig or hearing a woman?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (11.22.11)
Where in the actual laws does it prohibit this? Not in the centuries of Rabbies reinterpreting, enhancing, or modifying the laws - but in the actual law. Like many cultural prohibitions people are mistaking a rule vs. a culture. If there is an actual law that can be cited then they have a case. But this is like not eating rice on Passover - a cultural custom.
22. Equal rights?
AMorris ,   Beit Shemesh,Israel   (11.22.11)
In this case, the IDF is not imposing equal rights. Equal rights would mean that female soldiers are free to sing, while religious male soldiers are free not to listen. Instead, they are denying religious soldiers the right to practice their religion and giving the female soldiers the extra "right" to have a captive audience. The prohibition of listening to live female singing is basic halacha, not a stringiency or extremist position. The army of a Jewish state should allow for basic Jewish observance amongst its soldiers.
23. Women
peter ,   tel aviv   (11.22.11)
Women do not only sing. they contribute in all ways of our nations life. The value of their army service is indispensible. Why does this discussion even arise. just because some othodox moron voiced his valueless opinion. It,s the IDF we are talking about. The vanguard of our state which always functioned on equality. Any selfrespecting soldier religious or not has no problem with that. There are many fantastic religious soldiers. Those who think otherwise should not be allowed to serve. And thus also not be entitled to any benefits by the state
24. Hezballah is training an all singing and dancing girls act
Alan ,   SA   (11.22.11)
to cause IDF to flee so they can invade Israel.
25. Selfish - defend womens rights but not the rights of others
rebecca ,   Modiin   (11.22.11)
As a women she should know that each group has rights, and having had to fight for her rights, she should be fighting for the rights of others too. She did not get to her position singing - I hope.
26. If the men can't serve then who will need coffee
Sam   (11.22.11)
I'm beginning to think that the I in IDF is for IDIOT. The focus should be on the combat mission and not on singing in ceremonies and serving coffee.
27. DON'T MAKE SUCH A SONG AND
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.22.11)
Dance out of this.Israel surely has bigger concerns.
28. hamas singing troops
Tanya ,   New Zealand   (11.22.11)
so does this mean in the middle of conflict with say Hamas or Hezbollah that they could just send in some singing woman and all the religious soldiers would lay down arms and about face? You will be giving Salma ideas to take back to her kin....setting up singing brigades to fight their war! something very wrong here, Its the IDF, not synagogue. I am not up with the religious rules of the religious Jews but i think this seems ridiculous in the 21st century.
29. What sick anti-religious talkbacks in Eretz Yisrael
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (11.22.11)
It's sad where this Jewish country of Israel has come. This is the mentality of the freedom-loving anti-religious crowd on this blog, who wouldn't be in Israel if the Judaism of their grandparents hadn't remained true to their religion: "this disease known as religion" "as crazed as these religious antiquaries and their insane followers....." "extremophiles" "stop this abnormanl phenominen would be to GET RID OF ALL THE DATIM" "The followers of the Great Invisible One in the Sky can blow their Shofar or something else...." "because some othodox moron voiced his valueless opinion"
30. What has this picture to do with religous soldiers?
Daniel ,   NY   (11.22.11)
This article has such a bent against religious soldiers. The left want it both ways. They complain that they want the religious to join the army. Yet they refuse to accommodate. They are religious people you know!!!
