You know, I would really like to see the face of the fat rat down underground when he gets such news.
2. 2006 War was OLMERT's Defeat - not Israel's
Scott ,   Australia   (11.24.11)
Everyone knows that if the war had been directed by someone with an ounce of ability - the outcome would have been different.
3. Israel was NOT defeated in the Second Lebanon War
Elia ,   Beirut Lebanon   (11.24.11)
Israel wasnt defeated in Lebanon, israel suffered internal defeat, but NOT a military defeat! Hezbollah was the one who suffered the military defeat.
4. RB=Ronen Bergman, Registered Bullsh*tter
JB ,   SoCal, USA   (11.24.11)
This writer says: "One of Israel’s (only) achievements in its humiliating defeat in the Second Lebanon War . . . " Humiliating defeat? What page was that on? Even The Sewer Rat admitted that Hez suffered a crushing defeat. Now I'll remember this author's name as "Don't Even Bother To Read This Bullsh*tter's Fairytales."
5. Hez' has *not* complied re border outposts either
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.24.11)
Bergman should know better. I've seen IDF videos where they point out make-believe "villages" created near the Israeli border that are clearly Hizbullah outposts - complete with flags and oversize photos of Nasrallah and Khomeini.
6. No defeat in 2006
A. Assayag   (11.24.11)
The 2006 war, was not a frank success for Israel, but it was certainly not a defeat. 90% of those who died were Lebanese, at least a third of Hezbollah elite fighters got killed, the regions of Lebanon controlled by Hezbollah were completely destroyed, Nasrallah is hiding like a rat and since that war, the border has never been so secure. In comparison, Israel had very little damages. Maybe Israel did not fulfill it's goals, but it was certainly not defeated by Hezbollah. I know the sceptics will say that Hezbollah is now much stronger than in 2006, and that Israel achieved nothing, but if there has to be another war soon, Lebanon will be destroyed once again. I don't think the Lebanese people will tolerate the destruction of their country for a second time in five years. Hezbollah knows it, this is why it remains quiet.
7. #2 3 5
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.24.11)
Read any academic work on war and diplomacy: ear is not a "body count" but a way to make diplomatic gains. Hezbolla with 5000 fighters stood for more than a month against the IDF with around 100,000 soldiers tanks, planes and navy, all the while Israel's civilian population exiled from their homes. The IDF retreated from Lebanon under the humiliating UNSC 1701. Hezbolla became an important player in Lebanese politics and is planning for the next war. In the next war, Hezbolla rockets will be a strategic threat to Israel. Thanks to Kadima and Labor, Israel lost big time.
8. pointless
tom ,   toronto, canada   (11.24.11)
this piece is neither factual nor does it present an opinion. and the writer is not a famous celebrity. at most, it deserves a failing grade and a rewrite. why publish it?
9. Nonesense!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (11.24.11)
I can't believe Ynet is publishing such idiotic stuff from such idiotic writers! Israel was not defeated in the 2nd Lebanon War. As everyone knows Hezbollah and Lebanon suffered major human and property losses and Israel was conduced by the UN and the idots Olmert and Livni into a ceasefire. Next time the job will be done until the evil rat pack is no more!
10. "humiliating defeat"
JB ,   Rehovot Israel   (11.24.11)
"humiliating defeat" is a reach. The IDF as usual, was handcuffed and couldn't do the job. Israel has to win its wars quickly before supplies run out, and the U.S. had to ship munitions over so the war could continue. The story never changes. LET THE IDF WIN. Happy Thanksgiving.
11. Waste of ink.
Joel ,   New York, USA   (11.24.11)
What an empty, vapid waste of space this article was.
12. Mr. Ronen.. Explosives...... whenever you ..
Ali ,   Villanova _USA   (11.24.11)
handle them..They FREQUENTLY BLOW up..specially Hezbollah.. How many Explosions does Israel announce or report...NOT MANY.. If I was a Resident of this region NOW, I would be worried. and plan a NICE LONG vacation.. And specially with Nasrallah and BiBi going at it...It looks like it could go off any minute..
13. Reply to 7
(11.24.11)
Even if Israel had kept the biffer zone, Hezbollah would've been able to fire rockets on Israel, so bla ONG Kadima or the Labour party is irrelevant. Secondly, no one says that it was a frank victory for Israel. Nonetheless, to talk about this war as a military defeat is ridiculous. At the end of the day, Lebanon was destroyed. If another war takes place soon, the country will be destroyed once again. That's not a small detail. By the way, some top Israeli military experts rejected the claim that this war was a defeat. Martin Van Kreveld, us amongst them.
14. To # 13
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (11.24.11)
The results of the war are not messured about how much we destroyed Lebanon, but about how much we defeated Hezbullah, thing that we didn't! Thanks to Olmert, Barak and Tzipi Livni, the only thing we got out of that war was a useless piece of paper that is not worth the paper it was written in. Please, don't be fanatic, we Israelis know damn well the truth because we suffered it!
15. Its really nice to dream the dream
tea man ,   marjayoun   (11.24.11)
If the news is true we would hve seen pictures from flying UAV like the one you had few years ago Is it not funny to talk about Big one So close to UNIFIL lebanese army without any evidence
16. #15 - yes..why doesn't the IDF share everything with you
William ,   Israel   (11.25.11)
I often wondered why the IDF has hidden so much of its intelligence from Tea Man. Obviously, it's all lies from the Mossad....just like the Moon landing in 1969! By the way, didn't you hear Nasrallah admit yesterday that the blast did occur, but now claims it was a....land mine or left over cluster bomb. He didn't really explain how such small munitions had such an impact that could be felt many KM away.
17. Israel was defeated?
Vlad   (11.25.11)
Funny. I remember hearing how Israel conquered South Lebanon up to the Litani River, damaged Hezbollah's military capabilities, wiped out its long-range rocket stockpiles, and sent Hezbollah a message it hasn't forgotten.
18. Reply to 14
A. Assayag   (11.25.11)
Destroying a country is not a small detail. In 2008, when Israel attacked Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah decided not to join the conflict because the country would have not been able to bear such a large scale destruction in such a short period of time.
19. The title is wrong
Robert ,   farmington,wv   (11.25.11)
Hezbollah has no heart, Hezbollah is a bunch of cowards that hide behind there woman and children. I doubt Israel had any involvement in it, if they did it would be far worst then a little bang.
20. #7 - excuse me, Professor...
William ,   Israel   (11.25.11)
but your statistics seem to be a little off. Hizbullah had a magnitude larger of fighters than what you cite, closer to 50K which Nasrallah admitted to. Otherwise, when Israel killed over 500 of them in the war (which Nasrallah claimed less than 100 were Hiz fighters), they would have greatly incapacitated the terrorists with more than 10% of their personnel wiped out. On the Israeli side, we didn't send in anywhere close to 100K soldiers. The number you cite seems like the number of full-time IDF standing force, much of which was on-call in the South against a Hamas attack, and in the Golan against a Syrian attack. Only 2 navy boats were used and a handful of tanks. With this in mind, do you really think Israel threw its might towards the entrenched terror rats using human shields? In addition to having their hands tied behind their backs by Israeli politicians more focused on their own political careers and kudos from Europe (rather than safe-guarding the country and its citizens), the IDF was fighting a more conventional war, upholding Intl Law and human rights, against a terrorist group committed war crimes hourly, even firing rockets right next to a UNIFIL installation! Speaking of Israelis leaving their homes, Lebanese from the South did the same but were turned back by Hizbullah to become human shields throughout Southern Lebanon. How can anyone win against a group that would do that to their own people, without becoming like them?
21. #12 - "how many explosions does Israel announce?"
William ,   Israel   (11.25.11)
Not many because there aren't many. Such is the case with a mature, organized legitimate army vs. a terrorist group storing illegal weapons in citrus groves and residential communities. Israel is an open society with a free press. An explosion of any kind will not be secret for long. Whatever the reason for the explosions - I welcome more of them. As for those in S. Lebanon - they have more to fear than N. Israel. We have shelters everywhere, we have maps of ALL Hizbullah arms depots which will be nailed in minute 1, and residents will be allowed to temporarily flee from the war zone unlike those in Lebanon forced back to the war zone by Hizbullah (shame). Nasrallah has much more to lose than Bibi as Syria is unstable, Israel is still strong, Iran has quite a few less long-range rockets, Lebanon is still heavily split along sectarian lines, and a few nations (one of them Muslim) are eyeing a chance to cut Iran's influence. I do admit Nasrallah is smart...he often knows when to shut up, even though he wasn't smart enough to NOT launch an illegal attack inside Israel in 2006.
22. #14 - that was never really the goal
William ,   Israel   (11.25.11)
The real military goal was to hit Hizbullah painfully that they'd think twice before the next attack. That has been achieved. It was Olmert who stupidly claimed the impossible - to defeat Hizbullah. Not that Hizbullah is undefeatable but rather, a terrorists group based on a religious ideology cannot be defeated like a sitting army of a sovereign State, because the current rules of war do not adequately define it. Al-Qaeda is a perfect example. You kill Bin Laden and Al-Awaki, but some Al-Qaeda terrorists in Algeria launch an attack on Westerners. Same in Gaza with Cast Lead. We said the goal was to curtail rocket fire, Hamas claimed to was to wipe them out. So in the end, they could claim victory if never firing another rocket. Olmert, Barak, and Tzipi were just following their Leftist mandates - DO NOT let the IDF become legitimate or necessary through winning, and do not upset the foreigners in Europe. They couldn't care less about the State of Israel and its citizens.
23. Danger, MORON writing
Jorge ,   Teg   (11.25.11)
According to Arabs, Muslims and Leftists, Israel is always "defeated", it was defeated in the six day war and all of its wars. If that is so, why do they talk about occupation, and why Israel is still standing. If Mr. Bergman has free time, let him pick his no.. functioning brain and write about the clouds, where he is and belongs

25. #20
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.25.11)
The Americans killed many more Vietnamese and devastated the country, but the Vietnam war is an American loss because politically they lost more than they gained. As #14 and I said, war is not about a body count. War is a political tool that is measured by results. A talkback isn't a place for a detailed discussion, but the IDF should be able to destroy Hezbolla in 1 day. Instead, Olmert and Halutz (Kadima) and Pertez (Labor) allowed the Hanit to be damaged, allowed about 60 tanks to be damaged or destroyed and for 30 days, 100s of thousands of Israeli civilians fled their homes and cowered in shelters. At the end of the war, Israel signed the humiliating capitulation known as UNSC 1701 and Hezbolla became the dominant political force in Lebanon, while Halutz and Peretz were discarded. Israel is not safer after that war, Instead, the threat from Hezbolla rockets is now considered a strategic threat. We lost, big time.
26. Israel lost?
Michael McCarthy ,   Kochav Ya'ir, Israel   (11.25.11)
Gee, if Israel lost the war why isn't Hezbollah's flag flying over Tiberia? Or even Kiryat Shimona? Wasn't it Israel who withdrew after the ceasefire agreement. Did Hezbollah put one boot on Israeli soil? Funny perspective!
27. can you hear yourself william
N K ,   Ottawa, Canada   (11.25.11)

heisenberg ,   new mexico   (11.26.11)

29. maybe not so mysterious
American Israeli ,   Israel   (11.26.11)
most of the comments are about a side issue, re who won/lost the war. Isn't anyone curious as to what is causing the "mysterious" explosions? There are those of us who are praying for the weapons of our enemies to be destroyed. Is this too hard for Hashem? Whether He chooses to arrange explosions which have a rational answer or not, ultimately He is our biggest help. I'm not mystified by this news of explosions, just thankful.
30. military defeat
uncle joe ,   usa   (11.27.11)
