31. Irrational Exuberance of a Different Sort
Az   (12.01.11)
Usually it's referring to economics. I mean no need to rejoice about this. If it was necessary then leave it at that. The Benevolent Leaders of Iran may be evil fascists etc. etc. but gloating about this will neither calm their insanity nor ingratiate their subjects. If/when the present government weakens (probably when Ayattollah dies), there's no need to have such adversarial relations with them. Don't think there's a "let's push Israel into the sea" gene. Pride is a killer.

Oh, get real. Israel will continue to thrive long after Iran and Turkey are dim and distant memories. The Jewish people actually excel at that. We've had far more experience. And we are far more resolute.

There isn't a single ayatollah in the world that is headed for heaven. They're all headed south.

There may not be a "let's push Israel into the sea" gene, but there has been 32 years of violent rhetoric out of Teheran promising the destruction of the "Zionist entity" and threatening to wipe the "Zionist entity" off the map. I am Jewish; I am a Zionist; I have a perfect right to gloat when the Islamic Republic's evil "leadership" takes it in the shorts. Sorry.
35. So it may be,
Az   (12.01.11)
And yet the duration, reality, and conclusion of this 'thriving' are not within our capacities of knowing. Supposing you do believe that Judea is destined to inherit all that it's said it will: callous gloating will not not make that a speedier, more pleasant, or ultimately satisfying experience. As far as I know the principles of Judaism are completely in accord with the concept of Karma - Jews are no exception to the law. In fact they're more bound by it, if anything. That said, my point about anti-Israelism was precisely that the rhetoric comes from Tehran. Where the government is. Iran is not a monolith, it is not a person. It is a geographical delimitation of land, which a despotic cadre now rules. That they squash anyone who dares dissent from that rhetoric should be all the more reason to have sympathy. Not for ayatollah, for what you might call the populace. Let's see how you enjoy gloating when you see the results of radiation poisoning trickle out into the media. And the subsequent backlash, which I assure you will not be confined to Iran. The 'accident' was a necessity. Don't waste an opportunity for humility. Ayatollah will be fine and will use the populace's suffering to what advantage he can. When two elephants fight it is the grass that suffers, necessary or not.
36. There is no radioactivity!
Eugen ,   London England   (12.01.11)
Because the blast never took place. Just like in the Communuist East block during the cold war. People weren't told and were left to suffer the consequences. Remember Tjernobil? The only reason the Russians allowed admitted to a problem was because high levels or radiation was detected in Norway...
