Sarah I am afraid in the case of Entebbe the US cannot be blamed for doing nothing for a couple of reasons. Firstly all the passengers rescued were Israeli's, the foreigners had been released already. No US citizens no obligation for the US to do anything, Second nobody thought it was physically possible to pull off what Israel managed, US special forces included. If they didn't think a rescue operation was even possible how could they help? This guy in Pakistan is an American citizen so if they get the information they need and think its possible they will send a SEAL team. If they don't have the facts they need or if the casualty risk to the team is considered to high they won't do anything for a single old man, Obama can blame it on Al Quaida and lack of intelligence and nobody will condemn him for it. At the end of the day with things like this it always comes down to casualty statistics. Sadly I think this guys chances of coming out of Pakistan alive are less than 1%.

I think it is very unwise for aid workers to go to Pakistan under present conditions.
