What purpose does the blockade serve if Hamas can still sneak in operatives and weapons? They of course go through the smuggling tunnels, so why doesn't the Air Force take them all out? It knows where they are, but only hits them when rockets are fired. We need a new change in strategy. Things cannot go on this way. Hamas cannot be allowed to freely violate the blockade under our noses.
2. the man was an idiot
zionist forever   (12.04.11)
Its not politically correct to criticize the great Gilad who so many have come to see as a great hero but he was an idiot for going on hunger strike. He didn't know what Hamas would do if they felt he was becoming more trouble than he was worth. They may have decided to do what Hezbollah did when they took two soldiers and led Olmert to believe they were alive so he did a deal and then got back corpses. He had no access to the Red Cross and I very much doubt Hamas would rush him down to hospital ER if he got really sick. Sorry Gilad no praise this time, it wasn't smart or heroic so don't boast about it.
3. Hero
nhl   (12.04.11)
Of course he is a hero. He showed courage and initiative in the light of immense physical and mental torture, and isolation. He showed an amazing fortitude and defiance against his captures to an extrodinary degree by using the only sanction available to him, refusal to eat. If Hamas had had the facilities available to force feed Gilad, they would have. In the end, Gilads refusal to be a victim and the immense public pressure combined to procure his release.
4. What a strange comment!
Sam ,   UK   (12.04.11)
1) He isn't boasting 2) As the story you just read shows, his hunger strike helped win him his freedom.
5. # 2 your a fool
(12.04.11)
I would like to see what you would do locked up for 5 years. Gilad is a true hero, he took a risk and it payed off for both sides. The main thing Gilad is alive and stop being a fool
6. #2 your obviously a fool forever. All your looking for
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.04.11)
is some attention to your talkback. So here this is what you are looking for hope it made your day.
7. Better Late than Never
Tambour ,   Eilat   (12.04.11)
It took him 5 years to figure that out? Badly advised if he wants to brag about being instrumental in release of over 1000 blood thirsty murderers Should stay out of the limelight, book publishing money spinning deals, and tell his parents to keep shtum so as not to insult the victims of those he was party to liberate
8. #2 - a pity he didn't go on hunger strike after a month!
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (12.04.11)
You have a coward's way of seeing things. You would still be there! Better to die in a hunger strike with the chance of getting released than spend another 5-10-15 years there. You're a very sad person!
9. Nothing is being done because.....
Moragh   (12.04.11)
Israel is terrified! There is no more from the Knesset of any worth, since years! In fact, none like Golda Meier. she was a lovely woman but a tough cookie what now cannot be found in the Knesset.

You're not exactly a nice person, are you now? I think you are jealous of the attention young Gilad is receiving. As a matter of fact, I even believe that you are jealous of Cpl. Gilad Shalit. Well, I don't know if you are ripe enough for the army, but one thing is certain, you are such a coward that you envy Gilad for his strength and stamina. Tough shit that you were disappointed he came back alive and not in a box like the other two soldiers were brought home in after a silly exchange for ugly little Kuntar!

With all due respect I do not think that any of us has the right to judge what Gilad did or did not do. None of us know how we would react or behave in a similar situation. To me he is a hero and thats that. You do not have to agree which is your right, but you have no right to call him a fool. I wonder how you would have behaved instead of Gilad ?!!!!

In order to get a stronger Force and Power working on other Spirits, fasting is used to further the cause of HASHEM. Your post here denie that you are a true Zionist if you did not know this. Arn.Swed.

tess Thinking about what you say and whilst I still think it wasn't smart because he didn't know how Hamas would respond I also understand what your saying about nobody knowing how they would react unless in the situation. I am in two minds right now because I think both my own opinion and yours are valid but certainly now I see a new legitimate justifying what he did.

Kol Hakavod for seeing a legitimacy for Gilad's hunger strike. Kol Hakavod for admitting the above, Zionist Forever. I would never call you a fool for not seeing the light. You are in fact, quite the opposite.

17. Gilad's a hero
Dave ,   Good ol'USA   (12.14.11)
by hunger-striking and getting himself freed before the govt could agree to free even more terrorists, I wonder how many lives Sgt. Shalit saved. He is a hero every bit as much as Sharansky and I hope he has a bright future.
