Talkback 78. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4151650,00.html Sexuality conducted in the right manner is upplifting for the couple, but if in the wrong, as in this article and, remember that You become One in the Flesh and Spirit with the Person you have sex with. Arn.Sweden.
3. #2 Arn
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (12.10.11)
....."remember that You become One in the Flesh and Spirit with the Person you have sex with." Not, however, if one is the indigestible type, Arnie Let's just hope the Beacon doesn't hook up with JStreet
4. The loss of the Blessing of HASHEM -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.10.11)
- If You have Sexual intercourse contrary to the Word of HASHEM, you will lose HIS Blessing and Support, as Your Spirit will be infected with the other Persons Spirit, and Spiritual History before HIM. Spirits live in the Flesh, and sinse you are One Flesh with the other one Before HASHEM, HE will se You as ONE flesh. So, You will be contaminated or even Posessed by the other Persons Spirit and Personality before HIM. But, If You are conductiong your Intercourse according to HIS Word, with Matrimonial and the responsibility following that, He will bless your relationship, and Support it. Remember - Malachi 4 4"Remember ye the Law of Moses, My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. 6And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse." The Law speaks to Those who have the Law, with the Heathen it is different. Arn.Sweden.
5. I was once a young man dating NYC so called 'frum' Girls
Al   (12.10.11)
Yes they were frum...'Frum' Brooklyn and 'frum' Queens. I was 'frum' Montreal. MY problem was I was 'GU'...Geographically Undesirable. IE from out of towm so I had to do something about it.. So, I'd meet these ladies in Burlington VT at the HO HUM Motel where 'FFB' wasnt 'FRUM FROM BIRTH' but 'Far From Brooklyn'... thats where these ladies were happy happy happy. I guess it was Lake Champlain that did it for them. You can take the girl out of Brooklyn but you cant take the Brooklyn out of the girl. You go girl!
6. surely,
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya   (12.10.11)
a one-night stand between consenting adults, utilizing contraceptives, is not a big deal?
7. Modern orthodox isn't very modern
Sidney ,   USA   (12.10.11)
A truly modern orthodoxy would be useful to the Jewish people. I have a friend who graduated from YU about 40 years ago. Back then he had me convinced that modern orthodoxy was different. Based on how he lived his life and his current way of thinking, I don't believe it anymore.
8. Nr 3 - Smart eh - ? -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.10.11)
I quote - Not, however, if one is the indigestible type, Arnie Cpomment - that is what I wrote, as the Coin has two sides. If one Mix Milk and Water the Milk looses. Arn.Sweden.
9. Nr 6. You Err !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.10.11)
I Quote - a one-night stand between consenting adults, utilizing contraceptives, is not a big deal? E. G. Marsch , Nahariya (12.10.11) Comment - Oh yes it is, you will lose your First Birthright before HASHEM. But Fools despise that. Arn.Sweden.
10. The "rabbinical establishment" is far off tradition Judaism.
before >300 yrs ,   they had illus. of   (12.10.11)
naked women on the Song of Songs cover. This is just one example. Unlike Christianity or Islam, Judaism does not believe sex is a sin. Only if you're married to someone else (in this case, it is a capital offense). But it should be emphasized as ONLY. There were bachelor rabbis who enjoyed the company of prostitutes (for example Eleazar ben Durdia who is said to have mated with every hooker possible). And these were not ousted or considered out of mainstream Judaism. NOT WORKING While LIVING ON DONATION IN ORDER TO FACILITATE A LIFESTYLE OF ONLY STUDYING THE TORAH is, however, a capital offense. You are betraying Hashem if you do that. Read Maimonides.
11. The real scandal is not that there was sex
Charles   (12.10.11)
The problem is that they had sex without a sheet with a hole between them. At least that's the word on the Haredi street.
12. Charles
Shalom Hartman   (12.10.11)
Can't believe you still believe in that fairy tale
13. Arn, no offence,
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.10.11)
but I don't think it's good to quote scripture for everything. Universities are notorious for not sticking up for their students, and so their reaction here makes sense. If the Beacon had an agreement with the university not to print certain stories though and they violated that agreement then I guess that's all there is to it.
14. Not out of line compared to other student papers
C McCoy ,   Canada   (12.10.11)
Ok, I admit it's been a lot of years since I was at a university, think the Ben Gurion days LOL. Anyhow I am not totally out of touch with that venue as I regularly am at the campus to look at different library stuff. And while there I look at - gasp - the student paper. If YU has their noses out of joint over stuff like that, they should go out on the web, check a random sample of a dozen student papers. Young people should be free to debate topics, without excessive use of the heavy hand of censorship. Or else, what happens when they find themselves out in the so called real world? and debate should not only be in topics the Admin approves of. I say the Admin owes the student paper an apology and reinstatement of funding.
15. #10- know your stories
D ,   Israel   (12.10.11)
the whole point of the story of Eleazar ben Durdia in the talmud is the end- where he greatly regrets his serious actions, does complete teshuva (repentance) and is forgiven. he needed to do teshuva because what he did was Wrong. Sex in judaism is a meaningful holy thing that we take seriously, and don't just throw away. and by the way, i am chareidi, i work, and i pay taxes.
16. what do you expect from YU?
bob ,   potomac md usa   (12.11.11)
YU is a college level orthodox Jewish day school--where parents send their boys thinking they'll not be exposed to the "evils" of a real university--and where parents send their daughters (to Stern) so that they can marry one of the losers from YU.
17. Go to yubeacon.com and judge for yourself
C McCoy ,   Canada   (12.11.11)
For all the uproar over this article, it's actually sad and definitely unerotic to read it. It has the flavor you'd expect from a secular person of 50 years ago, there is nothing modern age about the author of it.
18. Story is Fiction
ANY ,   NY USA   (12.11.11)
19. yu a mixed bag
david ,   new york   (12.11.11)
there are all sorts there: some pretty religious people, many standard modern orthodox and a few people who have no business being there. there are alway a very small minority that will take marajuana or do off base stuff, but most are pretty straight. since when do a tiny student newspaper deserve such publicity?
20. since when is Modern Orthodox Charedi!?!
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, IL   (12.11.11)
You guys reported it wrong. She specifically said she was Modern Orthodox - which is not charedi - it's dati leumi - like mamlachti - get your terms straight.
21. kid friendly my ass
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, ISR   (12.11.11)
If that article is what you want to show your kids (under 16) I feel really bad for them...
22. A university in name only.Really just an Orthodox day school
Joe ,   Teaneck   (12.11.11)
23. ratings
zichron   (12.11.11)
the media always want ratings even it involves national security . the other aspect is a weakening a complacency by the editor that the jewish people can not perpetuaute . this is atonement in the form of marriage with many children to a passionate and wholesome sexual partner .
24. Once upon a time.......
NS ,   Long Island, NY, USA   (12.11.11)
Once upon a time Orthodox young women wore stylish yet modest clothes with skirts that were knee length. They went to co-ed parties listened to music and sometimes danced with partners that they were already seriously involved with. They conversed and debated with fellow Jewish students who had opposite viewpoints and still were able to leave as friends. The controversy at YU and Stern College shows that the real dangers facing dati students is not assimilation but frumkeit.
25. scandal
nosson tzvi ,   J-M   (12.11.11)
No, it is not a scandal-true or not.No holy institution is immune . This is the nature of man and woman-no matter where they study or who their parents are.No institution can be held to task for what happens outside of their premises. Frum folks should rejoice with YU that the learning and deportment have reached heights that not everyone expected forty and fifty years ago. It seems that some of our Jews rejoice when they hear of failure in a modern or central orthodox school. They should rejoice instead when real progress is made in advanced learning and true growth in yiddishkeit.One- should always have a generous spirit- we can never know when we might be surprised in our own family or religious arena. Chaverim kol Yisrael!
26. After 32 years -things the same at YU
Eliot Pearlson ,   Miami Beach USA   (12.13.11)
32 years ago when I attended YU instancfes such as those expressed by this young woman were NOT unique. Many of my friends had such inapropriate encounters. Someof them were in the smicha shiur.
27. Student News
KTyson ,   Mobile, AL   (12.13.11)
This isn't a problem just at Yeshiva. I graduated from a public university in 2008. The school newspaper regularly gave out sex advice #1 students have no business giving any advice, which can actually harm someone mentally and physically #2 taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for such nonsense
