However, the issue here is not about the legality of settling our land, but how we do it. Israel today is a state for its citizens, which requires appropriate laws to safeguard against anarchy, crime and terrorism. However, as a fundamentally Jewish state, ipso facto there are Jewish law values that are generally respected by the majority of citizens, including the rights of observant Jews to maintain Kashrut, Shabbat, and live amongst other observant Jews in a community of their choice. This latter proviso can be extended to the settlements, which are mostly built within the framework of wider laws of the state. The mess in question relates to settlements that have not got government approval. However, before demonizing the right, consider that left wing governments created 'facts on the ground' not only in pre-state Israel? Hence, the question should be focused on two subjects: 1) The rights of illegal settlements and 2) The actions to defend those rights. Concerning the first question, I think that the sooner we have a fully legalized settlement enterprise, the better we'll all be for it. As for illegal acts, they are exactly that and should be treated as such by every Israeli citizen across the political divide. It would also help to throw the net over political agitators from the left as well, who cause unspeakable damage in our land and seek to antagonize our Arab neighbors in the process. I can only be thankful that Israel has sane people, that despite our differences share common values (including leftist Sephardies!)
