32. Ever heard of Curves? Lucille Roberts?
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (12.16.11)
The secular whining about religious coercion is starting to get under my skin. For heaven's sake, they made it men only at MIDNIGHT three times a week. so what? there are plenty of gyms in NY that are men only or women only. The zumba gym on my block is not jewish at all and has men hours, women hours and mixed hours. I can already see the next thing you whiny seculars will bitch about: "religious synagogue designates separate men and women bathrooms - more evidence of religious coercion." stop being such a bunch of little bitches.
33. Women banned from gym?? Oh please!
(12.16.11)
I am a chiloni woman and I go to all all womens gym. So? Is that religious coersion? Why not write an article Studio C bans men from gym? NONSENSE!! Some people just want to fight about everything!!

Why do you care, you are leaving Israel soon.
35. anti religious feelings in Israel
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (12.16.11)
yes, charlie brown, there is no santa claus, but there is much anti Jewish feelings in 'democratic' Israel. When some one or an institution decides that religious Jews are people and gives them a bit of recognition, their are anti democratic cries in this country. Same on those people who harbor such deep anti Jewish feelings that they resent their brothers from having a few hours of equal time!!

UNREAL........................................we must prevent this religious "cancer" to spread.
37. Secular coercion
Yoni ,   Tel aviv   (12.16.11)
Nothing more than stifling the religious. All of this will be irrelevant in a few years when Israel is by majority religious. I know the chilonim are scared but grow up and show some respect to religious people. Two hours a week is too much?
38. segregation-women in Gym or not
imogen ,   SA   (12.16.11)
I am neither Jewish or religious, but prever to go to a all women gym ONLY. In the mixed gyms there's to much testosterone going on. I do not have a perfect body & feel watched, wich makes me highly uncomfortable
39. Headline incitment
Dan ,   Israel   (12.16.11)
It is not clear if the gym added hours around midnight or closes earlier for women. More insulting should be the quote "... girls train without the presence of men." Use either boys/girls or women/men.

David ,   Long island new York   (12.16.11)
I live on long island new York , and there are multiple gyms - that have seperate hours for men /women This includes gyms not in Jewish areas I have friends who are not Jewish and feel more at ease in a seperate class and not bring stared at by other patrons of the gym - only in Israel is this a issue - Jews can't tolerate needs if other Jews - if this was for Muslim students I bet nobody would give a dam - and in fact you would have the typical liberal tel aviv Jew fighting for their rights
41. To all who state that this exists in USA
Raptor   (12.16.11)
There is one hell of a difference in a "female session" because the women feel uncomfortable about excercising while men glare at them in mnimum dress and men demanding the exclusion of women because they are inferior. That is the reason and anyone who says otherwise is pretending.
42. Oh, good grief. This a horrible article.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (12.16.11)
This isn't coercion - this is adding separate hours for men who want them. And considering that the gym added them at the worst time possible (midnight, pretty much), and shaved off a whole 15 minutes of its previous schedule, *this* is what you call coercion? Because yeah, not offering separate hours is right and just and equal, right? Because forcing men and women to mix in minimal clothing in a sweaty environment is not a form of coercion in and by itself, right? And excluding a major part of the public that might consider that sort of thing a problem *isn't* discrimination, right? *sigh* Secular good, religious bad, yes? That feels like the crux of the headline.
43. seperate state & religon now
(12.16.11)
Israel in NOT a real Democracy.....why to give in to religious demands, discrimination is in my country a crime....in my country men and women are EQUAL........
44. Discrimination in the gym
gymer ,   Haifa,Israel   (12.16.11)
1)First, two days, then.....2) All of this would have been avoided if both sexes were given the same treatment, and if it were advertised in advance 3) Why should there be special treatment at all? Your there to work out not look at your neighbor,TACHLIS!
45. #41 Who can know why
Dan ,   Israel   (12.17.11)
How do you know what reason males do not want to exercise with women. Maybe they are embarrassed to be seen? Maybe they think the clothing (their -the male's- clothing) is revealing. some gyms require that people "dress" in "gym" clothing in order to use the gyms. For whatever reason, these males do not want to reveal themselves to strange women. BUT OF COURSE YOU KNOW WHAT IS IN OUR MINDS!
46. Separation of the sexes is normal
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.17.11)
What are they supposed to do, share the same locker room and toilet facilities at the same time? After they get their respective workouts, are the expected to shower together? Go to any public facility, such as restaurant, movie theatre or hotel, separate sherutim
47. Hey people, do you remember when
Ish Kabibble ,   Delancey   (12.17.11)
you went to school and had separate gym classes at different times? What are you bellyaching about, the circumstances are the same Find something better to do,l grab a broom and sweep your sidewalk
48. #41 Raptor, you're for the birds
BEN JABO ,   ISRA EL   (12.17.11)
Of course you never heard of "The glass ceiling" How many women can press a 200LB barvell, not nearly as many as men In some things they are equal, maybe more so, in other things, such as physical strength they are lacking Did it ever occur to you that having both sexes sharing the gym at the same time would be overcrowiding the facilities making it rather inconvenient and unpleasant to do workouts? You would also need separate locker rooms, having both sexes change their duds and shower at the same time would be a definite no no, too exciting
49. I was going to the gym just to see the girls working out...
Moshe ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.18.11)
50. THAT'S RIGHT!!!
Moshe ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.18.11)
51. What's wrong with it?
Dave ,   Melbourne   (03.06.12)
I don't see anything wrong with it. There are tons of gyms for women only which obviously get alot of business. What if guys want to go to a gym without being distracted by beautiful women? If there is demand for it, the market will allow it to exist. This bs of imposing on what people can or cannot do is so damn stupid and makes no sense, it's just for control freaks.
