2. The DRIVER was defenceless?
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (12.18.11)
How do you work that one out? He was controlling the damn bus. He could have simply refused to drive until they back off and leave her alone.
3. ENUF. STOP THEM. THEY NOT ONLY
"normal" Israeli ,   Tel Aviv / Jerusalem   (12.18.11)
don't own the country, they don't pay taxes, don't believe the State of Israel should exist and don't serve in the Army. They're BLOODSUCKERS and should go form a "settlement" in Saudi Arabia or Syria where they would fit in. ENUF - actually TOO MUCH. STAY OUT OF MY LIFE.
4. Driver should have....
Tzedek ,   Tel Aviv   (12.18.11)
DROVE AWAY!
5. In a Democrady -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.18.11)
PM: Public sphere must remain open to all. Chief rabbi: This is not the haredi public's country - public sphere belongs only to the Political Mayoritys oppinion. Arn-Sweden.
6. Christian Couple to be segregated ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.18.11)
7. Ridiculous
yakov ,   jerusalem   (12.18.11)
It is mind boggling that in a country faced with serious threats. That the PM has the time to waste about one so called haredi who asked someone to switch seats. Do not stigmatise a whole society based upon one idiot. And don,t waste time with stupid stories such as this one. We have far more important issues to deal with.
8. Well said #3
Nation ,   Israel   (12.18.11)
9. ISRAEL PUT END TO THIS NONSENSE NOW!
Zimbi ,   NJUSA   (12.18.11)
10. There is another alternative
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.18.11)
Those that disapproved could have shown their indignation by getting off the bus & walking, it could be referred to as "Voting with their feet"
11. they must....
Danielle ,   c   (12.18.11)
get a job, learn to drive and buy a _____car!
12. #7 Yakov begin dealing with your issues
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.18.11)
Start by serving in the army, paying taxes. One more crazy idea I have which i know you'll need to look up in the dictionary, WORKING for a living. Stop harrasing others and you wont be "stigmatised"
13. yakov, it's not just "one so called haredi"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.18.11)
In sociology there's a concept known as "broken windows" - that if one tolerates the vandalism of just a few broken windows, that leads to further abuse, more crime, etc. In New York under Giuliani and his police commissioner, they decreed that neither broken windows nor petty crimes would be tolerated. In the process, they brought an "ungovernable", failing city back from the brink. In Israel we're seeing a dangerous trend of tolerating or accommodating the small minded intent on imposing their will on the public. This trend needs to be stamped out now before it spirals out of control.
14. Egged Bus 451 - Yakov 7
Adam ,   Zichron Y   (12.18.11)
Actually Yakov this incident is a metaphor for one of the most important issues in this Country and its future direction. Is it OK to order Woman about Yakov ? Next stop Tehran !!
15. Bibi
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (12.18.11)
only reacts and NEVER leads. So how about it Bibi, its about time you gave some direction and hope because more of the same will soon lead to our unravelling.
16. All scared.....
yakov ,   jerusalem   (12.18.11)
From the story all I can gather is one person requesting someone move seats. NO violence or anything else. To equate a society that has zero crime no drugs and with hooligans in New York is ridiculous and it shows you are scared of the real issue and that is some morals brought back to society. BTW I have never heard you complaining about the Arab minorities the same as you do regarding loyal charedi citizens
17. Bus Driver is not innocent!
David ,   USA   (12.18.11)
Bus Driver could have removed the trouble-makers; option b) refused to move until total compliance & respect was instilled in the bus.
18. Women on the Bus
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.18.11)
I see haredi on the bus all the time here in the U.S. and they sit in the front with women. They don't have to look at them if they don't want to; they can just read and daven.
19. #17 David, driver is hired to drive
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.18.11)
not to be a Referee
20. #7 WRONG!!!
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (12.18.11)
This is not based on one idiot, as y ou say. And personally, I think that the Haredi attempts at dictating the lifestyle of this country are as important as anything else. Let them do what they like in their own homes and within their communities, but how DARE they dictate to the rest of us where we should sit, how we shold dress or what we should do. Let them go out and work for a living, let them contribute something to this country. Whya re they so afraid to be tempted into sin by sitting next to a woman, hearing a woman's voice or G-d forbid, touching a woman other than their wife? There is something very sick about these men.
21. #7 You live in cloud cuckoo land
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (12.18.11)
Are you trying to say that there is no crime, or drugs in Haredi society? Which planet are y ou on? There is paedophilia, child abuse, wife abuse and yes, drugs. So get real. Haredim are not only no better than secular society, they are worse, because they set themselves up as more righteous while at the same time they cover up abuse in the family, often blaming the victim for "bringing shame on the community". A really sick society if ever there was one.
22. #16
mark ,   ca   (12.18.11)
"...To equate a society that has zero crime no drugs and with hooligans in New York..." .You sure???? No drugs, adultery, pedophilia ,Ponzi in your society????? Time to land...:-)))
23. Lazy, prejudice, sexist sponges of Israeli society
EZRA ,   USA-ISRAEL   (12.18.11)
What a complete disgrace to the Torah and to Jews everywhere. You WON'T see this problem in the US: the ultra orthodox are FORCED BY LAW to adapt. If they don't: JAIL. Israel needs a constitution for crying out loud. A BILL OF RIGHTS instead of this silly idea of flying by the seat of their pants. These Taliban "Jews" (if you can even call them Jews) should be subject to the same laws as everyone else. AND NO SPECIAL BUSES FOR THESE LUNATICS!!!! They cost enough money and bring NOTHING to Israel! Not Kedusha, not ahavat Yisrael nor are they mentally adept for a civil society! As a RELIGOUS Jew myself, I NEVER understood this European minhag of extremism: it should have stayed behind in Europe when we left! Simply backward extremism that has NO PLACE in the Torah or Israel. Disgraceful! This is what the yellow star was ALL ABOUT! Shame!!!!
24. NOBODY WAS ARRESTED
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.18.11)
Why not ?? Because the police here are bloody useless.
25. Tanya Rosenblit has my full sympathy
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.18.11)
She did the right thing. Not only women must fight for women's rights. Men need to fight for women's rights too. The public sphere belongs to every Jew and non-Jew loyal to the Jewish and democratic State of Israel - including seculars and Haredim. If some Haredim for religious reasons don't wish to have women on the buses, I suggest these individual Haredim leave the bus and walk on foot, alternatively go by cab, bike or their own cars. If people ride public buses there will be public rules. There shouldn't be any "separate routes" for Haredim only, where women are discriminated against. I want Israel to be one of the most excellent and dynamic high quality democracies in the world with laws protecting citizens' rights. Discriminating women on isolated bus routes can never be tolerated - not even if it happens to be one single vehicle. If these individual Haredim want tolerance they have to give tolerance.Tolerance goes both ways. God is neither secular nor Haredi. God is God and stands above all human conflicts. Therefore it is utter hypocrisy to claim that Haredim represent God on earth through their dress codes and life styles. After all, these individual Haredim are spreading hatred against women. God is about love and not about hatred. So if there even is a God in the first place, neither seculars nor Haredim are better or worse - they all walk on God's green earth.
26. to haredim
alfredo ,   phileppines   (12.18.11)
we cannot find any single text in the torah, nor in talmud and misnah segrageting men from women in the bus righhhhhhhhhht!!!!!!!
27. A little OTT i think
Avi ,   London UK   (12.18.11)
If someone could please explain how most of the above comments aren't in breach of the terms which I quote "Comments containing incitement, slander, racist slurs and inappropriate language deemed to violate our terms of use won't be published." For that matter I'm not sure the article abides to these rules either. Maybe ynet should just add a clause "anything is allowed if it's against the Charedim"
28. #26 Alfredo, I hate to tell you Wronggggggg
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.18.11)
The Torah was written before buses, cars, airplanes, frozen foods, refrigerator, virtually everything that you use today were invented
29. Is this the south?
Robert Goldman ,   Kfar Saba Israel   (12.19.11)

Hell the world goes forwords and they put our lives in reverse,,,, let them ride in the back.. they hate our country. they don't serve in the army we pay through the nose so they can ruin our country and turn us into a taliban run backwater.... how about we airbridge them to afganistan?
