1. An oil embargo stop Iran? Sounds pretty ludicrous
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (12.19.11)
2. don't laugh
Matt   (12.19.11)
No it is achievable, Canada shale oil and oil sands, increased Australian production, offshore US drilling. Increased Arabian production. A naval blockade is an option just like Cuba, we had to wait for the pipelines to bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, we will close it. The increased price make oil sands ans shale oil viable, Libya has a beautiful field undeveloped, Iraq is back onilne and we will cut Iran out of the Syrian pipeline we Assad is gone. We in Israel have been talking and planning this for years. Also the GFC means higher prices but less demand which makes it fiscally viable for oil producers. I am glad that Israel has decided to go public on the plan, officials have spoken of a naval blockade before but not of how we intended to do it.
3. Is all as well as it seems in the land of Ahmadinejad?
Tim ,   Brighton   (12.19.11)
He has virtually single handedly made Iran into the economic basket case in just 5 years - despite all its oil! How? How long have i got? He has given a nod and a wink to corruption by the RG Military on a truly breathless and unprecedented scale He has personally agreed to huge money transfers to Hezbollah, Hamas, Mashaal, Iraq Insurgents, Taliban and its possible even to Insurgents in China and Russia. (One wonders to what extent Khamenei knows?) You think Greece is in deep debt? Thats NOTHINg compared with Ahmadinejads crazed 'grants' and 'subsidies to buy off the electorate To think NOTHING of the spending on the military that has reached a GROTESQUE 50% of GDP! Quite apart from the 'gifts' and donations to corrupt overseas politicians (who are very well known) to buy their support at the UN and elsewhere Is Ahmadinejad on his way out..or would he strike first at Khamenei in a military coup?
4. HAVE U CONVINCED CHINA & RUSSIA
JOYCE ,   JERUSALEM   (12.19.11)
So you see the extent to which this plan will be buried with dust on the shelve very soon. With China alone prepared to buy from Iran, the plan will baclfire.
5. Somebody other than the USA
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.19.11)
will have to do it Obama won't, just as he has diddled the Iranian nuke situation for the past three years
6. When in the world have you seen a.....
Chris.B ,   Australia   (12.19.11)
welfare state dictate the foreign policy of a superpower? Truly amazing!!! Israel should get Dimona in order first before questioning Irans 'legal' peaceful nuclear program.
7. Sure , we can afford to pay more for fuel
Jon Long ,   Meadville, Pa   (12.19.11)
Thats right , Let us in the USA pay more for fuel . Y;all are paranoid ! I want to see absolute proof Iran wants to build a bomb. and then absolute proof they will use it on Israiel. No more he said - she said. If Iran were to attack Israel, it would be suicide. Israel has at least 200 nukes (if not more), Iran (and Israel) would become a wasteland, You want to do something about it, fine do it. Just leave the USA out of this BS
8. Since the objective in Libya was to get the gold and bonds
Rivkah   (12.19.11)
there according to an American Free Press article, the way for Iran to stop the sanctions and avoid war is to hand over their gold and riches to NATO and the Pope and the UN. The UN is not sanctioning Russia or China for having nuclear weapons or Pakistan or a lot of other places with them. So nuclear weapons is not the issue. Robbing Iran of its wealth is the objective. America was robbed of its wealth without a war to object to that, so you see America is still functioning if only just barely.
9. #6. Dont follow you..Do you follow you?
Tim ,   Brighton   (12.19.11)
Mmm perhaps its because you are up too late...
10. #7. Of course no one wants war..
Tim ,   Brighton   (12.19.11)
And I agree there has to be PROOF ABSOLUTE that Iran has developed a nuclear weapon before any attack is mounted. Whats more any attack on Israel, Arab States, US and Nato interests by Iran would be met with joint and overwhelming force. So there is an element of the balance of power but the ONLY question is will Ahmadinejad and his RG in their right minds would try their luck? On balance I would say 50/50. Not very good odds though. So we hope for the best but prepare for the worst As for leaving out the USA to paraphrase Churchill - please dont bury your head in the sand - wether we like it or not we are all in this together

solomon ,   bklyn   (12.19.11)
Israel is neither a welfare state nor is it dictating. This is called 'cooperation' (look it up). Your quotes should be around the word 'peaceful' as in "peaceful" nuclear program.
12. #7 jon
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.19.11)
The UN has already proved Iran's intentions. And Iran has stated, many, many times, that they will annihilate Israel. If the only proof you will accept is Iran actually doing it, fuhgetaboudit!
13. #6 Chris B.
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.19.11)
Welfare state, hardly, most of the money that Israel gets is mandated by American Law, to be used to purchase American goods More of that money is used to develop technology & weaponry that is mutually beneficial to both countries, so unlike the Palestinian's, Pakistani's & Egyptians, who take the money and give nothing in return Iran's peaceful nuclear program, how many times does Iran have to say it is going to destroy Israel Israel's Dimona, how many times has Israel (enumerate them with facts) has Israel threatened to use the reactior to destroy an enemy Iran is as believable as you are, both liars!!
14. #6 - Israel as a welfare State?
William ,   Israel   (12.19.11)
Israel is more solvent than many US States, with NO economic support from anyone. And speaking of Welfare States dictating policy of the US, you can start with California, Nevada, Florida, then move internationally to Egypt, Taiwan, Iraq, soon to be Libya, the ungrateful "Palestinians", and let's not forget the UN where the US pays a huge share, hosts them on their soil, and gets slammed the most in UN sessions.
15. To: William at No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.19.11)
And let us not forget Russia, all of the former Soviet Republics, most of black Africa, the Caribbean nations and Central and Latin America, and let us not forget my personal favorite -- Pakistan, who has repaid the $3.2 billion it receives annually from the United States by allowing the Taliban to restage within its borders and harboring America's most wanted terrorist for a decade. The United States reaps a tremendous return on its investment in Israel. The same cannot be said for any other country into which the United States pours taxpayer dollars -- not even the ones in Western Europe. With the sole exception of Israel, pouring money into foreign countries is like throwing money into a deep black hole.
16. Israel should mind its own effing business...
Mark Wilson ,   U.S.A   (12.19.11)
It the U.S that should tell Israel what to do, not vice-versa...
17. #14 William
Mark Wilson ,   U.S.A   (12.19.11)
Israel is a 'beggar state' barely able to survive on foreign aid...
18. #14 mark
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.19.11)
Your gross ignorance and penchant to repeat mantras without bothering with facts, is obvious. Too obvious.
19. #16 Mark Wilson - it is Israel's business
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.19.11)
The money Iraq derives from its oil is used to further its nuclear bomb research, which a direct threat to Israel, Iran has already stated that her missiles are capable of reaching U.S. bases in the Middle East and that they are capable of reaching Eastern Europe Lest you forget, Iran has repeatedly threatened to destroy Israe Now, pracitce what you preach mind yoursl
20. #17 Mark Wilson, still alive, real pity
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.19.11)
Many major corporations do business in Israel, they're eager to do so because of our expterise is science & technology, IBM, Microsoft, Google and the like Beggar states, you must be referring to the Arab panhandlers that call themselves Palestinian's, who have been living off the public done ever since 1948, or Egypt, which receives a couple of billion a year, in return for nothing or Pakistan, that receives another couple of Billion, to show her appreciation, she sheltered Bin Ladin, right next to their main army base
21. ''ISRAEL'', USA AND IRAQ.
SJOERD RUURD VAN DER ,   MULTIVERSE   (12.20.11)
PRESENT ''ISRAELI'' LEADERS-SHIP MIND YOUR OWN ''ISRAELI'' INTERNAL BUSINESS GRADUALLY AT LAST. FOR EXAMPLE: UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS ALSO CRIME/CRIMINALITY/CRIMINOLOGY WHICH HAS TO BE SOLVED WITHIN ''ISRAEL''. LET THE IRANIAN PEOPLE , EVERY OTHER COUNTRY AND THE ENTIRE UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION DO THEIR WORK.
22. #21 SJOERD - THANKS FOR THE POST
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.20.11)
I couldnt' sleep, your latest tripe was better than a sleeping pill Regards to our two aliases, Observer & Ajibolah
23. #17 - compared to whom?
William ,   Israel   (12.20.11)
Oh dear misguided Mark. Have you really took the time to visit the General Accounting Office of the US govt and seen where the US foreign aid is going and for what? The US pays over 10x more in economic and military aid to countries in the Middle East who have oil wealth! Usually, most countries with oil are doing quite well....yet Israel with no oil takes no economic aid. Military aid is a different story as its spent 100% in the US. That's called stimulus, and your president gave billions to banks for the same reason. So, let's recap - stimulus package to Israel = 5000 jobs for American families; stimulus package to banks = high bonuses for executives, no decrease in housing foreclosures, and a loss of thousands of jobs (Bank America alone let go of 30,000 employees!). We'll not even get into the North Koreans or "Palestinians" who suck cash right out of the US economy and give NOTHING back. Wow - information is a fun thing when you choose to use it.
24. #16 - actually, didn't the US agree it was a good idea?
William ,   Israel   (12.20.11)
So you're saying that even friends of the US must be dictated to by the US? Yeah, no. That isn't going to fly in the world anymore...atleast not with Obama in the office. But hey, he can always ask nicely.
25. #21 sjoerd
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.20.11)
The UN hasn't been able to do it's work for ages. It is also prejudiced against Israel as are you. And why do you want the Iranian people to do their work when it involves trying to annihilate another country? That alone says enough about your posts.
26. Israel does not care about our citizens.
mike cohen ,   USA   (12.20.11)
WE cant afford to pay more in fuel.. but then again what does israel care about the American people.. keep being parasites to our U.S gov't and her people
27. #26 mike cohen (nice jewish name)
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.20.11)
excepting for the fact it isn't yours Any fool, including you, should know the Oil Cartel sets the prices, raises them whenever they feel like doing so, using any and every opportunity to do it Parasites, you must be referring to the Palestinian's who have been living off the charity of the world for more than 60 years Israel cares a lot for the American people, the feeling is mutual, 63% of American's, acdording to the latest Gallup poll, favor Israel Next time, show a bit of courage, try using an Arabic name I have a name you can use, "Lying Weasel"
28. #26 mike
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.20.11)
Israel does care about the American people. But if it comes down to it, they care more about living than how much someone else pays for fuel. Also, the US gets much in return for our relationship with Israel. Much of it is centered around military intelligence and training. They are training our soldiers in close in urban warfare. And most aid to Israel has to be spent in the US, which helps create jobs here. This is much more than the US gets from other countries it assists. I suggest you do some more reading.
