Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.22.11)
and got to know several hundred people as chatting was a crucial part of the game. I knew at least 30 people from each country (the game was structured as a geopolitical simulator). The Israelis were all led by a weird guy named Sadeh though. Thank you for the compliment. :)
66. Ancient traditions?
Yaara ,   Israel   (12.22.11)
First of all there were no haredim in ancient times. There is nothing in Torah about segregation between men and women, nothing about men who cannot listen to woman singing and other things that you try to impose on the whole country. You still live in 18th century and did not progress in any way.
67. 64 Charles add. Look at the man...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.22.11)
on the picture. He defends himself from nose rubbing. Cheer up Charles.

You're one cruel woman they would all die from starvation and blame you for it ,... Scorpion asking a frog to carry him across a river. The frog is afraid of being stung during the trip, but the scorpion argues that if it stung the frog, the frog would sink and the scorpion would drown. The frog agrees and begins carrying the scorpion, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When asked why, the scorpion points out that this is its nature. The fable is used to illustrate the position that the behaviour of some creatures (read people) is irrepressible, no matter how they are treated and no matter what the consequences. My grandmother told me a heart wrenching stories about these people - Their children were starving despite that there was plenty of work on farms during the spring time or harvest but not one of them bothered to take a fork or scythe to earn some money and feed their kids.
70. haredi cowards and bigots.
mikebeck ,   alton usa   (12.25.11)
the haredi only have nerve in mass and or when attacking women alone or in insulting young school girls,a single haredi is quiet and knows his place israel show them all thier place.
71. This money couldn't go to better causes?
Jeff Kleinberg, PhD ,   San Diego, CA USA   (12.27.11)
I just have to say, "Really?" Aren't there enough starving and homeless people who could stand to have a fresh meal and some semblance of home? Hasn't there been enough warring, raging and persecution to the Jewish peoples to "justify" this medieval practice but moreover to misappropriate funds that could so clearly be used for something more beneficial? The Bible also states that women should be stoned to death for looking at a man (or man other than their husbands) the wrong way. We don't continue stoning folks, so why continue employing an outdated, outmoded and offensive practice such as this. Really? Millions of dollars to make a point?
72. Keren, do you *really* think
Joan ,   Haifa   (12.31.11)
that this is about respect for women? That there isn't any segregation here? Sure, about the way the American Jim Crow laws weren't about segregation either - only about respect for African-Americans! No one group should be consigned to "the back of the bus." OK, IF haredi women are OK with this (even if they aren't, they won't be admitting it any time soon), I have absolutely NO "compulsion to change them," as you say. You're missing the whole point, I fear. The problem comes when everyone else, and that includes pork-eaters all the way up the ladder of observance to the kipot srugot, must change in order to accomodate fanatics. Not just change, in the case of women, but submit to humiliation even.
73. The issue is not modesty
Rahel   (04.24.12)
The point of these buses is not to protect modesty. It is to enforce control.
74. Common sense, lack of
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (04.24.12)
So now Egged will lose Haredi customers and lose money on many routes. The campaigners no doubt knew this would happen, so Egged is the loser because of outsiders' interference, lack of common sense and disregard for Egged..
75. Here in London
Joseph ,   London UK   (04.24.12)
Here in London, for many years we had a private minibus service connecting Golders Green and Stramford Hill. It was a similar price to public transport and seemed to work well. The owner has now gone on aliyah, so perhaps he can run his service between Bnei Braq and Jerusalem.
