2. There is little here for the old people to do
jason white ,   afula, israel   (12.26.11)
And not many old people understand Hebrew. I dread the thought of retiring. How many hours a day can I surf the internet, skype or read my ebook? Not only that, but the pensions are low and there are too many that never worked that receive pensions. If we had fewer people getting pension money that they did not earn here and more to those that worked here for a minimum of 20 years, then maybe it would lift the financial burden off the elderly. Also if there was public transportation on the Shabbat, then they could visit family and friends and have family and friends visit them.

Healthcare worker ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
By the very nature of this country's history, many of her immigrants suffered life-altering traumas that will not only haunt them forever, but also robbed many of the best years of their lives - and most become even more aware of this as the end draws near.

Larry ,   Los Angeles   (12.27.11)
How much so is it impossible to find one when you are 65, and not even in reality when you are 70, Israeli society is geared for the young worker and companies will not take an older person unless he/she has unbelievably way above average skills, which we elderly normally do not possess.

The elderly in Israel are heroes. They sacrificed their young life fighting to defend the Land of Israel from Arab Islamist-Jihadist terrorists, usurpers and occupiers in all the major wars that Israel faced since WWII. They should be given Bible study to strengthen their relationship with the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who will be their Source of comfort, peace, joy and hope.

jerri i ,   USA   (12.28.11)
The group that made the survey obviously didn't take account of the 25000 elderly in Paris that died in a heat wave after their younger relatives fled Paris to the beach. The suspicism is that similar things happened in other European countries.
20. Paris elderly - heat wave August 2003
Aaron-Merida ,   Merida, Yuc. Mexico   (01.04.12)
On reading no. 19, I thought, whoa, where did he get that info. A quick Internet check, and I found the figure 15,000 dead senior citizens in Paris attributed to the August 2003 heat wave. (Not 25,000, but still all too high.) Not that this data makes any less difficult the life of many seniors in Israel, particularly those who moved here without other family, or whose children left Israel, or who have outlived spouses and friends.
