1. detain the leaders of these gangs..
Robocop   (12.27.11)
treat these terrorists the same way as the palestinians, as they have the same final goal: to destroy the core of the state of Israel.
2. Time to take out a page from Mr.Stalin's Book: introduce
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.27.11)
"Corrections Facilities/Camps" on a big scale! Trained personale shall treat the overly religious (psychotic) patients day&night for as long as it takes.... What's wrong with that proposition?! We indoctrinate our Youth in lefty- universities/campuses, right?
3. Most of their statement makes no sense
CL   (12.27.11)
4. This is a Haredi coup d'etat
Dan   (12.27.11)
The streets of Beit Shemesh are public Israeli streets belonging to all. What can cameras do? The army should be sent in to occupy the town, remove these illegal, fascistic signs and ensure that everyone can use Israel's streets freely. Anyone resisting this should be arrested and tried for obstructing the law.
5. does this mean women shouldn't go to shul?
tsfatisha ,   tsfat   (12.27.11)
i've visited haredi people in beit shemesh and when i asked where the nearest shul was with a women's section i was told there wasn't one. this is obviously not true as most shuls there do have them but most of their women don't go to shul because they are looking after young children, which is of course fine and normal. however i was made to feel weird because i, with no children, wanted to go to shul on shabbat and yom tov.
6. For each segregation sign erected
Raptor   (12.27.11)
a bunch of women in bikinis should walk down Main street.
7. The blame for this outrage falls on
Sagi   (12.27.11)
a) The outrageous practice of separating women from men in the synogogue. b) Ben Gurion. c) The non separation of religion and state. d) Ultimately we are all to blame, each and every one of us, for not "killing the snake when it was young." Civil war is just around the corner and we have brought this upon ourselves. What the Haredi are doing is nothing short of anarchy and anarchy can only be dealt with in a like way. Anarchy is violence, and violence must be met with violence.
8. You will cause homosexuality
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (12.27.11)
To the leaders of the Ultra Orthodox, the more you create a segregation between men and women the more chance you will create a homosexual problem with in your community. Thats right, if you don't let your young men and even older men set their eye on a women then it is odvious that they will be more interested with their own sex which will create same sex attraction. So when you ask why did you find your son with another man you will be the ones to blame. When I walk your streets I notice how your young men look towards me like a man would look at a women. Act Now.
9. They went too far with the violent acts against women and
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.27.11)
children in the school. I've been to Beit Shemesh and I understand it was built for religious people and all that is fine. When you get nut cases that start spitting on women and screaming at little girls, THAT is going too far, THAT is not TORAH behavior, THAT is shaming the decent religious people who do know how to act. The state of Israel is not going to let taliban types of charadis act violently to please a small number of religious zealots that act OUT of the mainstream of Judaism.
10. The sotry is about the Hareidi attacks on Non Hareidim
Allen Krasna ,   Bet Shemesh Israel   (12.27.11)
Over the days - the story has now moved to the signs in the center of the All Chareidi Neighborhoods. Yes in an open society, people can go where they want and do what they want and this is wrong. But the Core of this story is not that. The source of the trouble is the "manifest destiny" of the Hareidim - who want ALL of Beit Shemesh to follow their rules. The area where the Orot School is - is a National Religious Area. Only in the last few years have a few Hareidi Buildings gone Up. But now The Hareidim doing this are trying to force their ways even in this area. And they do this by spitting and cursing and intimidating the people who live there and go to a local school. I think this is the larger issue. (of course attacking people in buses or people who walk through their neighborhoods is unacceptable - but the "takeover" of the non Haeidi parts of Bet Shemesh, and the Mayor helping to destroy Bet Shemesh is the real story
11. Puffed up by the media frenzy
Israeli grandma   (12.27.11)
The extremist zealots promoting the marginalization of women in the public arena, and harassement of women and little schoolgirls, and the high-octane Hiloni campaign against what is essentially a brainwashing of the religious public are two ends of a spectrum. The ancient Jewish faith does not reduce women to the status of Muslim women. We must continue to enjoy (and merit) the traditional respect our society has for girls, women and mothers, and "modesty" should be returned to its original meaning: Behaviour showing respect to all, and public dress which does not expose large areas of flesh, which in many modern Western countries are normally covered in public, except in places like the gym, pool or beach where it is appropriate to the place.
12. Zealots? haredi do not practice Moses' Torah
Tambour ,   Eilat   (12.27.11)
13. "stop or i'll spit" lol!!!
gal1 ,   israel not palestine   (12.27.11)
14. Peacefully I say to these people...
a daughter of Israel ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
I am a woman and I will not be excluded. Above me only G-d! If you attempt to exclude me or any other woman G-d will hear my cry out against you and He will take the appropriate action. As is written in Shemot 22: 22-24: "22 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. 23 If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; 24 And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless." Take care for I am a woman and a widow within the House of Israel and as is written above my cry is powerful before the throne of G-d!!
15. Who are these Leaders of the Ultra-Orthodox in Beit Shemesh?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.27.11)
And why do they not condemn the action of their followers iro young children at Orit school? If these leaders thought that the media brought in immodestly dressed women for the filming (which is of course possible) why did they not just instruct their people to stay off the roads completely. Then the TV cameras would have left with nothing. Instead, they allowed their followers to show their and the leaders true colours.
16. Mathew 5:20 has a warning for us all. It says that unless
Rivkah   (12.27.11)
your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Pharisees and Scribes (teachers of the Torah or Law), you will not enter into HaShem's Kingdom. It is wonderful to see people singing the Song of Moses, but without the Song of the Lamb they will not enter HaShem's eternal Kingdom. Those who sing the Song of the Lamb but do not sing the Song of Moses like the Pharisees and Scribes will not enter HaShem's Kingdom, either. Most Christians think they can enter HaShem's Kingdom believing in the Saviour but not obeying the Torah. Pharisees think they can enter HaShem's Kingdom by observing the Torah but not believing they need a Saviour. Both are required, the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb.
17. cut their shul founding at once
Gerry   (12.27.11)
18. 7 Sagi Victory obtained by violence..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.27.11)
doesn t last.
19. #6 that is not respectable.
Golan ,   modiin   (12.27.11)
and in this fight we need self respect and not sink into the low class of the PETA people who can only make a point by presenting porno. No, instead of bikinis, women (and men) should dress well, and make the point. "in this war of the sons of Light against the sons of Blackness; we the decent people of this country say no to segregation!"
20. "haredi-homogeneous area"
Alon B ,   Bet Shemesh, Israel   (12.27.11)
The leadership's own statement is telling. In other words, they want the 'area', namely all Bet Shemesh, to be homogeneously haredi, like themselves. That want to "live according to their faith" but what they are living is not Judaism, it is Talibanism. This whole this is not about living and letting live in peace and quiet and is the root of the very problem.
21. The Haredi you talk about are Chassidim
Yehoshua Bader ,   Tzfat, Israel   (12.27.11)
B"H If you look closely who the perpetrators are, you will see that they are Chassidim. Have not seen a Sephardi Haredi so far throwing Rocks or spitting at people or giving a hard time on busses or causing damage to that Book store in Jerusalem. Haredi are not just Haredi, there is a difference between us Sephardim and the Chassidim. Chassidim should be pious and not extreme and violent and excluding, but a lot of them go way beyond the Halacha and that really causes this huge mess!
22. @16 here we r Jews talking about a Jewish issue...
Ami-Li (Emily) ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
your comments from your Christian perspective are not at all catholic; (catholic with a little 'c' as you know means 'universal'). Have a little think dear and then answer these questions: Would you like it if someone from another religion righteously told you what is wrong with your religion? Would you like it if your religious view was completely ignored and replaced with a different religion? Would you like it if someone "mussered" (ethically lectured you from a moral high horse) with their religious views? From so many of your comments here we all know what you would answer. Why then do you insist on doing what is hateful to you, to us?
23. #8 So what?
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (12.27.11)
Guys with guys is fine and perfect !
24. #6 seriously unhelpful.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.27.11)
25. Religious Extremism
Beth ,   Washington, DC, USA   (12.27.11)
No good can ever come of religious extremism, regardless of the religion. This makes me so happy that, in my younger days, I would walk through Mea Shearim in short shorts and a halter top!
26. # 23...You're right, but it's not productive...(end)
Edithann ,   USA   (12.27.11)
27. Keeping women away from synagogue?
Jasmin ,   Haifa   (12.27.11)
This is revolting and definitely *not Jewish*! Tsfatisha (no. 5) is right, many women will not be going to shul because they're looking after their young children. But to make a policy of keeping women away/out???
28. #11
robert   (12.27.11)
Grandma, I see a problem here- going back to ancient Jewish faith? .... there was no Ultra orthodox anything in black hats and 17th century coats....that is the big problem- sects that are lead by fanatics trying to force their ideas on moderate Jews. Faith is not a question of how much skin is shown, or women singing, or showing hair, or sitting behind men. the zealots are forgetting that it is about G_d .
29. To # 6 . Bikinis in the winter ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.27.11)
30. Please leave this rivka alone
