The historical record, tragic as it is, clearly shows that the American objective during World War II was to defeat the Nazis, not save the Jews. Ron Paul wouldn't lift a finger to save anyone. However, he is also a lousy historian. The US did not fight Hitler to save Jews. It went to war against the nazis because Hitler declared war on the US after the US declared war on Japan following the Pearl Harbor bombings. Once America entered the war against the axis, the American leadership did little to rescue the Jews from annihilation. The US and England refused to bomb the Auschwitz death camp---even though allied bombers flew over it frequently on their bombing missions against Germany. Actually, it was not until millions of Jews had been murdered that a Christian official in the Treasury dept. told Sec. of State Morganthau about the murders and the abominable State Dept. policies that actually prevented the rescue of Jews--especially those of Breckinridge Long and the indifference of FDR. Morganthau threatened to go public if FDR didn't do something to save the remaining European Jews. Obviously, if Ron Paul had been president, the heartless freak would have allowed the nazis not only to murder all the Jews of Europe, he would have done nothing to help England or Russia and Hitler would have conquered the entire world---including America.

Jewish resistance groups in Europe asked the Allies to bomb the crematoria at Auschwitz as soon as bombers were within range. Even Eleanor Roosevelt asked her husband to do something for the Jews. I would say if we had it to do all over again, people would not make the same choice, then I remember how many millions of people have died in North Korea at the hands of their government and I realize nothing's changed. As the "Why We Fight" propaganda film said about isolationism pre-WWII, "No one wanted to go to war for some mud huts in Ethiopia or China."

I'm not sure why it's important now than Ron Paul said he wouldn't have sent troops to fight the Nazis. He's been very firm in his positions, unlike almost every other politician, so why does this one issue warrant discussion now? He also wouldn't have sent troops to stop Joseph Stalin who killed millions more Soviets than Hitler killed Jews. Does that make him the wrong material for president? I hardly think so. According to him, if he's asked by other countries for help, he'll gladly send help but he's not going to uninvited. Too bad some recent presidents haven't had the mentality.
