31. Not good solution
Geoffrey ,   Baguio City/ Tel Avi   (12.28.11)
Separation/ division is not the right solution. Some groups must accept and change some norms in life. The most important heredi should know how to deal with its neighborhood. Love your neighbor well said in the commandments. It's little confusing..the government itself don't have unity in dealing with these problem..stop politiking rather talk and come up with the best solution.
32. Kuddos Mr Gafni
Robert ,   Timisoara   (12.28.11)
I cannot believe that Mr. Gafni (a haredi after all) gave the blatent, easy solution (proper and firm law enforcement), while Netanyahu is trying to weasel his way out without taking a stand. And yet again, treating symptoms is only postponing the inevitable all-out disease...
33. Now it makes sense: London AND Londonistan! ...Oy!!!
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.28.11)
34. Wrong approach
Abu Yussef al Yahudi ,   Bue_Aires_Argentina   (12.28.11)
IMHO, it's a wrong idea to split the city, eventually it will lead to the spliting of the entire country. This idea is a giant backward step to the "Ghetto" mentality. The cities and the whole country must remain UNDIVIDED, and the Armed Organizations of the State (The Police or wathever is their denomination) should strongly enforce the complying of the Law, punishing the individuals that violates the latter.
35. # 23
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.28.11)
Post # 14 is not Sarah B's post but that of the imposter.
36. response to #18
Moshe ,   RBS-A   (12.28.11)
Actually the fact is that people in "the Rama" pay higher Arnona in order to help subsidize the lower Arnona of people living in "old Beit Shemesh". Not sure why you thought is is the reverse?
37. Bibi the genius
Simon Soesan ,   Haifa   (12.28.11)
You see, the difference between a statesman and a politician is as follows: a statesman thinks of the next generation, and a politician thinks of the next elections. Bibi, who lost the 2009 elections, does not want to say what the laws of the lands are. Neither does he want to please the vast majority of this land. Instead, he prefers to hang around with extremists, may it be political or religious. he prefers a squeaky coalition above a broad and clear management of this country. So let's split up wherever there is a conflict because our genius does not want confrontations, he wants votes....
38. Beit Shemesh Division Plan
Boxarch ,   New York USA   (12.28.11)
Is Bibi suggesting to bring back ghettos?
39. #13 Seriously?
Talula ,   Israel   (12.28.11)
Seculars are as extreme as Haredim? What, are you completely devoid of any intelligence? Clearly you are, either that or you've never set foot in Israel - read the papers - watched the news or walked in Jerusalem with a t-shirt on. You MORON!
40. Prime Minister
RC ,   USA   (12.28.11)
Bibi, Bibi, what are you doing? Does the law of the land of Israel only apply to some, and exempt to others. Will it take one of these Haredi extremist to spit or slap your face because you do not wear a black hat and black suit for you to understand that they are wrong, and like the Muslim extremist they are trying to force their religious views on others by force. Have you not said that Israel is a Democracy? If you who are the leader of Israel are unable or unwilling to use the law to control those who use violence against other fellow citizens then how do you expect to be called leader of the chosen people? The world is watching you.
41. The Ultras must learn
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (12.28.11)
If the Ultras don't learn, one day, the society will clearly say: "We don't need you, because you do more harm than good!" What we are seeing, not only in Beit Shemesh is a moral outrage. It is overdue, that the Frum look into their books and learn a little more. Definitely the Torah didn't mean anybody to spit at others or beat or riot on the streets or discriminate by gender or whatever! Go back to your school and learn! You obviously missed a few important points in our holy scriptures!
42. Keren, the issue is not live and let live
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (12.28.11)
But access and control of the public square by the Haredi Jews. Signs telling women to cross the street, signs in busses telling women that they need to sit in the back. These are issues where one community is trying to take control of the entire public commons. Worse, they are using violence - especially against minors - to enforce their control. Such ideologies and actions are unacceptable. As other posters have noted, this is not halacha. There is no requirement for women -Jews or non-Jews to be hidden from the eyes of men, nor their voices to be silent around men. Indeed, if the sight and sounds of women are so unsettling, then the men should be provided with blindfolds and earplugs.
43. Bibi Is absolutely right. We all win with 2 Cities
Ezer   (12.28.11)
Bibi is right on this issue. He understands that you can't mix oil and water. It is totally illegitimate for one segment of society to impose itself on the other. What is wrong with splitting Bet Shemesh into a Haredi where everyone enjoys Kashrut and Shabat and a Secular City where people enjoy Shabat transportation and entertainment. Everyone wins and hakol beseder and there will be peace. If Israel has to also be split into 2, so be it as well. We will gain another vote at the UN.
44. Haredi behave like Mafia
ModernOrthodox ,   Ma' aleh Adumim   (12.28.11)
Some Haredi are behaving like the Mafia, trying to force others to accept their extreme lifestyle. Torah (& halacha) forbid one to take on behaviours which are over and above what Torah says, and certainly where these extreme stringencies divide the community , they are forbidden. Religious or Secular. File charges against these perpertrators! This is a world we all live in. They can rule as they want in their own homes. But not in public areas. No one - not Haredi nor extreeme secular, is entitled to enforce their extremism on the community at large.
45. Rewarding misbehavior
RC ,   USA   (12.28.11)
Some people seem to overlook the real problem. If you reward misbehavior it only gets worse. If you give extremists who break the law a plot of land to live in, they will outgrow from it and insist on more, and since you rewarded them for using violence to gain what they wanted they will get even more violent to get what they want in the future. Have you not learned from watching the extremists around the world who use terrorism as a tactic?
46. Rebecca , Modiin .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.28.11)
There are problems in Betar illit too . Did'nt you read this article some days ago ? We can also put those "charidim" in a ghetto , surrounded with walls and with posters : Good Israelis not allowed inside .
47. Keren , seculars don't spit at religious girls
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.28.11)
Seculars don't tell women to sit in the back of buses , Seculars don't tell women to use another sidewalk , Seculars don't throw stones at libraries or women's clothing [ as it happened in Beth Shemesh ] and so on ....
48. #42 Jacob
Keren ,   IL-BR   (12.28.11)
I would like to quote my opinion above about this issue concerning what you say: "If social violence occurs,in both sides, police should intervene;if not ,let one and another alone to live their lives." What means, such social disrepectfull signs should be taken off and that's it.
49. 47 Charles,don t be naive...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.28.11)
All secular are not angels. It is because the genuine believers dont talk lashon hara that you are not aware of the negative sides of a MINORITY of secular.
50. What seculars do
Avi ,   Nyc   (12.28.11)
They cut off the pais of Haredi boys, they deny jobs to parents who send their kids to Haredi schools, they give them treife, teach their kids that they are backward, make them attend live scantily dressed woman singers, etc
51. To #36
Baruch ,   Beit Shemesh   (12.28.11)
Not true. The people of Beit Shemesh, specifically in the Anglo communities of Sheinfeld, Nofei Aviv, Nofei Hashemesh, Ramat Nirya and Givat Savyon pay A LOT more in Arnona than the RBSA residents. For instance, my apartment is 110 sq. meters and I pay 1,100 shekels every bill for Arnona (550 shekels per month). My friends Arnona for the same exact size apartment on Nachal Dolev is about 750 per bill (375 shekels per month).
52. Datikan city
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.29.11)
53. Division of Beit Shemesh
Chaya ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (12.30.11)
How about a referendum asking people living in Beit Shemesh if they would like to divide the city? Seems to me that this should be a question for the people who acually live in Beit Shemesh proper and not for the politicians. Moshe Abutbol will be able to run for Mayor of Ramat Beit Shemesh and build as much housing for chareidim as he desires and the newly elected mayor of Beit Shemesh can build housing for his constituency. The secular/ traditional/ Dati Leumi in RBSA and the chareidim in Beit Shemesh can effectively do apartment swaps. Let's face it, this situation has been going on for years and it is not improving.
