2. headline wrong
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.04.12)
The soldiers did not say they would leave over women's singing. The IDF allowed some incompetent officer to violate the conditions under which the soldiers agreed to serve. Imagine the justified outrage of Muslim soldiers who would be forced by some Leftist officer to eat pork. The officer showed contempt for discipline by violating IDF orders and knowingly gravely damaged the IDF. He or she should be demoted and jailed.
3. Our military sucks
Josh ,   Israel   (01.04.12)
Palestinians should stop shooting rockets into Israel, they would do much better if they trained women to sing. Our military would surrender in minutes.
4. This is unfortunately
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya   (01.04.12)
a ridiculous business. I've been a normal male for some decades. There are things that you react to very strongly, but women's singing is not one of them. It just doesn't have a powerful erotic effect. I never knew anyone who felt otherwise. And to think of all the wonderful female vocalists I would have missed.... No Ella Fitzgerald! No Achinoam Nini! You won't be able to control yourself. Please...
5. Let them sit in jail
Bad Assed Jew ,   US   (01.04.12)
such ridiculous behavior from reticent 'soldiers' more afraid of women's voices than defending Israel. They didn't want to join any way and, this is just an excuse to run and act like muslim males.....
6. What else did you expect
Ar   (01.04.12)
Well done. Quit and hopefully more will follow. The IDF is messing with the wrong people. And believe me it will only get worst.
7. Haredim will leave IDF?
Mark ,   Detroit   (01.04.12)
I didn't know there was that option. The government should stop playing games. No army service (or other acceptable replacement), then no welfare, no unemployment insurance, no healthcare. You don't want to serve? Don't ask the rest of the population to support your ideological decisions.
8. promises have been broken
Robert ,   NY USA   (01.04.12)
exactly why more and more people are abandoning seculasrism and becoming Religious. Not just in Israel. Even women. Maybe she can't sing, but it sure beats being ruled by sociopathic liars and thieves who only care about themself.
9. PLEASE LEAVE and leave Israel abd go to Iran!
David ,   Karmeil, Israel   (01.04.12)

11. These are soldiers?
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (01.04.12)
Soldiers follow orders. They do not "make deals". You don't want to serve like other soldiers? Fine. You lose the right to vote, State aid, and pay 150% taxes. If you need lawyers to accompany you to check contract clauses, the country is better off without you. Soldiers serve from love of Israel. ALL of Israel. What nonsense to have modern young Israelis turned into Taliban by nonsense. Maybe fewer Rabbis might solve many problems.
12. Clearly a leadership problem
Gideon Reader   (01.04.12)
This entire matter is a failed leadership problem and a self inflicted injury that has been left to grow gangerous(sic). This could have/should have been left to the senior NCO staff to fix. It is NOT all that big a problem, unless you make it one. War fighting is prime. Keeping the troo[s "out of the sun" is a close second. PPPPPP (Prior Planning Prevents Pee Poor Performance) All this flap is stupid and NEEDS to get fixed and in the next ten minutes is five minutes too late.

Arn. ,   Sweden.   (01.04.12)
Haredi soldier warns: We'll leave IDF over women's singing Following resignation of IAF rabbi over decision not to excuse religious soldiers from official events featuring women's singing, ultra-Orthodox soldier says army 'broke promises, we will follow Halacha' - Amazing what kind of Idiocy has taken hold of them, just for the sake of popular oppinions They are no Ideological leaders, but led by the nose of Troubblemakers. Arn.Sweden.

16. Haredi Soldiers
Makkabi   (01.04.12)
Every soldiers has to fulfil orders and has to respect the law of his country. Soldiers that will not do so, might have to serve behind bars. There is one law for every citizen of Israel and it has to be respected by Haredi or not Haredi. Nobody stands above the law.

Av   (01.04.12)
Are you a Israeli citizen? Based on your comment, name, location most likely not, so this is not your business, and your comment about how the Charedi either serve or no welfare etc reflects that and is a comment based on ignorance. I suggest you learn more about the Haredim community and what they DO contribute before embarrassing yourself.
18. Don't expect the IDF to protect you
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (01.04.12)
& your families if you use religion as an excuse for not performing your duties If you really reject the sounds of women's voices, duct tape the mouth's of your female family members to show your sincerity

Randi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.04.12)
21. 40%
Dan ,   Brooklyn   (01.04.12)
40% of combat unit soldiers are religious; they contribute a lot more than their secular peers. What you gonna do when they all resign en mass? And please don’t bring the whole Charedi issue into this, most of these soldiers objecting to being forced to do things against their religious beliefs are national religious, not Charedi This whole thing is being orchestrated by a bunch of left wing anti religious provocateurs, and they are only proving the Satmar Neturi Karta right, that Israel is no place for a Jew.
22. ignorance and predicable response
Aliza   (01.04.12)
for all of you who are ignorant, who think this is an extreme reaction, well, what can one say - you are very ignorant of Jewish law and how it is practiced. You are also ignorant of the reasons behind the law and why it is. If you would bother to find out, with an open accepting mind, you would be less judgmental. Some how I think you would be less judgmental of a mixed marriages, or unwed mothers, than proper religious observance. as to the response of the Haredi soldiers, I predicted this very same response. It is foolish and sad, regarding the army ruling, it is also anti-Jewish.
23. Kiddush HaShem
Baruch ,   Göteborg   (01.04.12)
If the secularists in Israel believes themselves to be above Halacha, they'll learn, that faithful Jews lives and dies for that same Halacha that has kept the people alive for 2000 years without neither statehood, parlament, army or democracy. The State of Israel is now (and under Likud!!!!) doing exactly as the wicked Alexander Yanai: Declared war on Israel and it's Sages!
24. mistake
Iletzter ,   TA- Israel   (01.04.12)
You have your statistics mixed. The seculars jump at the opportunity to leave Israel and go to the promised land of America. Only the religous stay. In a few years they will be majority in Israel, and will take over the military and the government. It is just a question of time. If you can't stomach that , get your passport in order and start looking for your options
25. Trying to force Religious Jews
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (01.04.12)
to compromise on 'laws of modesty', is no different then forcing the Tamini children into a secular education, or forcing Jews to leave their homes to allow free-rein to terrorist bases in Gaza. Pure idiocy, short-sightedness, promoting a degenerate ideology that will as everything else backfire and further erode the nation.
26. #19
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (01.04.12)
I lived in Israel for 13 years, and served proudly in the IDF as a Navy Lieutenant (Army- Captain), and fought in the 1973 war, before and after it as well. My kids were born and live there. I have earned my right to an opinion.
27. #26 YOU HAVE NO RIGHT
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.04.12)
You forfeited or lost your " Right to an opinion " the day you left the shores of Eretz Israel ,so don't give us that shpiel.
28. Oolai Ha Rav Mi Satmar Tsadak
TSB ,   Clifton, NJ USA   (01.04.12)
Just to add to what No. 21 said, Prof. Robert Auman, an Israeli Nobel Prize winner in economics, who considers himself a National Religious person and a Zionist, was quoted as saying (in the Hebrew of the subject line), "perhaps the Satmar Rov was correct." This was in reaction to the Gaza evacuation. Wonder what Professor Aumann is saying now?
29. no state and noarmy

tell that to the 6 million
30. these yeshiva students were warned
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (01.04.12)
They were warned that the IDF would go back on it's promises, the IDF is "al hapanim" . It does not keep it's promises, and sorry to say it does NOT protect Jews. It expels Jews from their homes in the middle of the night just like the SS and the KGB did, it shoots Jews, it does not respond to reports of terrorists. It does more to protect arabs than Jews! Barak is not a military hero, he is a coward and a political hack! and look at the leftists who scream about Hareidim not wanting to serve, what were they in the IDF? JOBNIKS, army correspondents who shot arabs with the ink in their pens if that much and went home at night so Ima could give them a nice hot bath and a meal! The IDF has no backbone or teeth they were emasculated by the politicians! It serves the Hareidim right for trusting them
