1. Such rudeness on the part of Chilean politicians.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (01.09.12)
They're all vying for the Palestinian votes of course, and after Israel sold them UAVs to patrol their long border. Shameful.
2. Chile is a catholic country
Mike ,   TA   (01.09.12)
all is takes is one mistake by one jew to bring back the memory of all the anti-jewish catholic sermons and comments throughout the generations.
3. Is that the thanks we get?
Judeas Maccabeus ,   San Diego   (01.09.12)
For giving the 30 Chilean miners and their families a free week to come to Israel and tour places like Jerusalem, etc?
4. Anti-Semitism in wake of Chile
Plasstic ,   Chile   (01.09.12)
The comments came from an arab/palestinian local politician (Fuad Chahin) he uses every opportunity to make judeophobic or antiisraeli attacks, It's not a common perception. Chile is not antisemitic country, but we have some local neonazis and a very big local arab community.
5. This only proves a point.
Vlad   (01.09.12)
The State of Israel was created for very good reason. Jews are always a convenient scapegoat, and whenever one does something wrong, Jews in the immediate area are always in danger. The Antisemitism that plagued the world never really left.
6. Palestinian community
Soo   (01.10.12)
Chile has the largest Palestinian community outside of the Palestinian territories. This has to have some influence
7. Chile's peculiar shape>>
HaifaGuy   (01.10.12)
>allows it to be rolled up into a little roll and thrown into the Pacific, enabling Argentines' expansion westwards, something they have been longing for. Part 1 of this plan is now complete: burn down Chile's forests. Mossad strikes again!
8. To #4 Plasstic in Chile
Been there   (01.10.12)
Don't tell us Chile is not anti-Semitic. I lived there for more than twenty years. If in doubt, check Chile's voting record at the UN - consistently anti-Israel. There is anti-Jewish feeling in all social classes, from the slum dweller all the way to the aristocracy. If someone is a Jew in Chile, he prefers not to talk about it, as if it were some sort of defect. Or else he joins the rabid anti-Israel fringe, to prove he has overcome his Jewishness.
9. Let me guess: they were expressing criticism of israel?
Daniel ,   Holland   (01.10.12)
10. Blaming the Jews...
Joe ,   Newtown, USA   (01.11.12)
anything new in this , When in doubt... blame the Jews.Is global warming also to be blamed on the Jews ?
11. Chile
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.11.12)
expressed a staunch resistance to the extradition of Walter Rauff, who invented the gas chambers. The local nazi lobby was recently reinforced by the palestinian immigration.
12. They just said "Jew" - No "dirty"...
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.11.12)
... But it doesn't translate well. In Chile the dictionary still defines "Jew" as a derogetory term. Jews do not hide their identity, but call themselves "Germans" (a highly respected sector of the Chilean population - pre-WWII), and if need be "Germans who are Jews." But the country doesn't have a term for "dirty Jew" as the "Jew" itself implies the dirty. I find it interesting that it was found necessary to alter the translation though.
13. Chile Anti-Semitism
D. Russel Brown ,   SC, USA   (08.13.12)
It always amuses me when every "ant-Semitic" remark made by anyone, anywhere on the planet, makes the newspapers. One gets the impression that specially-trained agents spend their entire lives sniffing around in public restrooms and outside of synagogues looking for the slightest clue that someone might not love them, instead of putting forth the effort of making themselves more loveable. This is wrong; when you acknowledge this kind of activity you encourage it- duhhhh. Why not publicize the unselfish acts of compassion and charity practiced by Jews worldwide, such as, say, the food drives they have every month to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians? That would send a positive message rather than exacerbating a negative one.
