My family lived in Iraq for 2500 years and we NEVER considered ourselves as Arabs. We were ALWAYS Jews from Israel, and we prayed 3 times a day, 7 days a week for the day we would return to the land of Israel that we were forced from. You have no idea what you are talking about.
32. #21, #22, #29 blindman
solomon ,   bklyn   (01.20.12)
1. There ARE non arab muslims. 2. You call others racists. Hmmm.... 3. No, you and others have been trying to de-arabize arab Jews when you ignore that they were here before Muslim and Christian arabs, how they were kicked out of arab countries, lost all they had, etc. 4. Your post #29 has no relation to post #23. 5. You again have everything backwards. You never fail to disappoint.
33. #29, that's correct
Jake ,   USA   (01.20.12)
The people who we conquered the land from no longer exist, thus we have the strongest claim.
34. #25, the Torah says "God took the nation out of Egypt"
Jake ,   USA   (01.20.12)
It does not say "God took the religion...". In biblical times every nation had its own religion. Worship of God (or several Gods) was part of the mainstream culture. Unlike other nations which were conquered and dispersed, the Jews strengthened and added to their religion in exile, in order to preserve the nation-hood for its eventual return.
35. To: No. 29
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.20.12)
The Jewish haven't stolen anything. Recovering one's property is not theft. Neither is thowing out the illegal Arab squatters and interlopers.
36. To: No. 30
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.20.12)
There is no such thing as an "Arab Jew." There are Jews who come from Arab lands. I have told you and told you -- when you illegally co-opt written material without attribution, then at the very least you should make a concerted effort to steal material from a legitimate source.
37. #34 jake
solomon ,   bklyn   (01.20.12)
If every nation had its own religion, you contradict your post #23 that Judaism was a nationality first. It could be a case of "which came first, the chicken or the egg".
38. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.20.12)
If she is from Nazareth, as the article seems to imply, she is likely an Arab Christian. Moreover, in the direct quotes within the article, she identifies herself as "Arab." Don't you think she has a far better idea of her identity than do you?
39. Druze ARE arab
shaun green ,   pasadena usa   (01.22.12)
They are technically an odd shia sect of islam descendents of Abraham but Arab is a race not a religion.
40. To #5
Avi ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.22.12)
Observer in Egypt, And Druzim are also Arabs. See response #3 for the good reasons of her service, as well as her own reasons.
41. We need more ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.22.12)
.... Israeli Arabs like the impressive young lady that is the subject of this article, and fewer like Zoabi and Tibi, who consistently bite the hand that succors them. There are plenty of Arabs throughout Israel who are loyal to Medinat Israel, but are afraid to speak up, for fear of endangering their families. Bravo Shirin! Kol ha'kavod!
42. #13 no, it is shame on you Orwellian
Mike ,   London, UK   (01.22.12)
reading your post, I compare your twisted hateful words those of Shirin. Self-hatred? why because she chooses to serve the country that gives her a career, prospects and hope of a better life? It is you who should be ashamed
43. Humanitarianism
Zivron   (01.22.12)
Zionism in part but not in total is a subsection of the humanitarian movement giving a place of refugee to the jews with the jews controlling to the maximum extent their own security . There is plenty of room for other humanitarian traditions in israel,
44. #27 Proud to serve her country
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.22.12)
Unlike parasites Zoabi and Tibi who suck up benefits and spend their time seeking negative attention. This young woman will finish her IDF service and replace them.
45. She is Muslim Israel Arab
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (01.23.12)
She is a muslim Israeli arab. Like many other arabs who DO SERVE in the IDF, she is still treated as a second class by jews.
46. #30 - and "de-Arabized" has come to mean
William ,   Israel   (01.23.12)
de-brainwashed from the mindset of being a second-class citizen. de-programmed from the inherent racism in Arab communities. And de-institutionalize the belief that their human rights, self determination, and basic history are meaningless and they have no recourse to mindless violence against them and their Jewish communities. Go ask Mizrahi Jews how it was living under Arabs, and when they get past the crying, they can tell you about the atrocities visited upon them and their communities for years, and running to Israel where they now live in peace and self-determination with just the clothes on their backs. Sounds like "De-Arabization" is a pretty good thing. I bet the Persians wouldn't object to it.
47. #30 NON-OBSERVER-NOT IN EGYPT
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (01.23.12)
Jews from the Arab land had to brought from primitive societies into a modern one, such as Israel, in order to exist and progress Better schooling, Medical & Social Services I noticed that your current post, as are most the others are simply copy & paste jobs, try doing something original for a change, it would be a real treat You constantly post about which you have no experience whatever, that shows you're naught but a hollow shell, liike a conch on the beach Or better yet, look at the multitudes of non-Jews who are clamoring to enter Israel, I don't see any people beating the doors down to get into Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Libya, do you?
48. Rami, # 45
Flash   (01.23.12)
How do you know this place? Are you sure? Is she living in the same city as you? I ask this earnestly.
49. to SHIRIN AND FAMILY TOO,
UNCLE JOE ,   CONN USA   (01.24.12)
GOD BLESS YOU AND BLESS YOUR FAMILY SHIRIN. you are a hero .you put the ISRAELIS THEMSELVES TO SHAME . those who are on THE LIBERAL LEFT . THANK YOU . I AM IMPRESSED .
50. #45 rami
solomon ,   bklyn   (01.23.12)
You are right that in some ways arabs may be treated as second class citizens. Much of this is due to seeing arabs in general as enemies (because of all the wars they have started) or a fifth column (because of all the arab terrorists). This is not apartheid, however, as arabs and Jews are treated at the same hospitals by the same arab and Jewish doctors, etc. There are also many initiatives, both private and government, that attempt to bridge this gap. Much different than any of the arab countries, yes? Yes!
51. Lucky
Samer   (01.25.12)
Fortunately self-hating Arabs like Shirin who think they can become like Jews are few and far between.
52. Lots of fears and mistrust contribute to that. It is not so
Joe   (01.25.12)
Simple to say racism. When you have many Arabs say "kill the Jews" and Hamas ranting it brings only mistrust and fear. It this was not so in I believe both Arab and Jew could make this country a pleasant land, with respect and dignity for both. Until this "conflict" is resolved Israeli Arabs will face the same fear and distrust unless they are personally known. It is a shame. No society on earth has total equality even in the West, and even in Arab countries. It will come someday, until then it feels like proving one's worth is a minefield.
53. to #45 after the Golan druze riots last year
ghostq   (01.26.12)
in which IDF soldiers were targeted, can you blam jews for that. don't tell me you got such short memory.
54. #45 - I don't recall her saying that
William ,   Israel   (01.26.12)
She didn't say anything about being treated as a second class citizen. Though, despite your service to the country and that from other Israeli Arabs which is honorable and deserving of recognition, your politicians are viciously anti-Israel and that hurts your community. When Zoabi supports a terrorist flotilla against her own country, and Tibi expounds the honor of terrorist martyrs and denounces the existence of Israel, it looks bad on your community - even if you too suffer by their lack of attention on your daily issues. But the very silent Israeli Arab community makes sure the image of the violent, racist Israeli Arab perpetuates because you do nothing to counteract it.
55. #51 - usually when one says "self hating"
William ,   Israel   (01.26.12)
it means they dislike their identity and their culture. I didn't read that this Israeli Arab soldier thought any of those things. Infact, she speaks highly of her family and her culture, and of coexistence with Jews. Apparently, in your mind, to be pro-Arab is to be anti-Jew, and that's really a shame. If your identity is to be racist, then so be it - but what a waste of a life on this planet. And for those who do take part in building the State of Israel...they enjoy many benefits that their Arab neighbors simply do not. And none of them had to become "Jewish". Unlike the minorities in Arab countries who...by strong suggestion...either become Muslim or follow their rules and religious norms...or else.
56. # 53: what about terrorist jewish settlers attaking IDF base
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (01.27.12)
I guess you are OK with settlers constantly attacking IDF soldiers and just recently attacking IDF base and injuring soldiers...
57. to # 54 william: we are not silent
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (01.27.12)
We the moderate Israeli arab majority do not stay silent, however the jewish media does not cover our story and Israeli government does not show any support. Not only many Israeli arabs don't agree with everything arab MK do, we even vote for jewish parties like labor, likud, kadima, etc.
58. #57 - Rami, if Israeli media doesn't cover you...
William ,   Israel   (01.28.12)
then you're being silent. That is, you can disagree and protest as much as you want against your own MKs, but that's not your correct target audience. Your Arab MKs hear you, then ignore you as insignificant, then publicly rants against Israel and conspire against ALL of her citizens. THAT is the face of Israeli Arabs in Israel. If you want Jews to see another side of Israeli Arabs they must be your target audience. You must tell the Jews where you stand and commit acts FOR Israel. When was the last time you had a major march against Zoabi or TIbi? Did any of you throw a shoe at Bishara? No - infact, when we see Arabs in the Labor party, they're crying about being 2nd class citizens and making demands for everything, without addressing concerns of Arab tax-dodging, traitors from their own community, and massive corruption. I do not doubt there are many pro-Israel Arabs like you out there, and I don't envy your position. If you're pro-Israel, you'll be seen as a traitor by Muslims. If you're pro-Arab community then you're siding with seditious elements and you're seen with suspicion by everyone else. But don't come to me, after your actions, and decry my reaction. After 92 years of racist terror by Arabs, Jewish caution is 100% justified. But Arabs standing up for Israel, and doing things like army and national service is a good start, and will reap benefits for all - not tomorrow, but definitely in a generation. I promise you that.
59. #56 - Rami - you're a smart guy
William ,   Israel   (01.28.12)
so don't act naive. Out of the large settlement movement, less than 1% are instigators, and even less than that are violent towards the army. That is an isolated group and we know them very well. Arabs have a long history of terrorist violence, and have backing from other Arabs through money and weapons. Their loyalties are always Muslim then Arab.....then State is far behind. The settler weren't out for blood and are not trying to exterminate anyone. They are pissed off their homes were flattened. Arabs on the other hand have shown they are out for blood, they do want ethnic cleansing, whether they personal had a home flattened or not. They don't care - any action against a Jew is warranted, as pronounced in Arab media and mosques. BIG DIFFERENCE, Rami!
