Unfortunately this kind of attack where an apparent anti-Semitic attack turns out to have been perpetrated by the victim or relative of the victim has occurred in the US and France in the last 15 years. In the US, an academic who happened to be Jewish was found to have daubed neo-Nazi symbols on her car and office after she reported vandalism and graffiti. French police investigated an apparent anti-Semitic attack on a woman on a Paris train station; the woman later admitted she made up the story. This incident became the subject of a film "Girl on a Train".

By The So-called Victim.
If an Muslim was caught doing this crime in NYC then he or she would be locked up for years but since this perpetrator is Jewish he'll get a slap on the wrist and some time with a state paid psycho analyst. They'll find his father didn't buy him all the candy he wanted as a child so the state will have to give him a pension.
