1. You are 100% right
Fred ,   Jerusalem   (01.22.12)
Sorry I missed the Jerusalem rally. I really wante to be there.
2. Racism and intolerance of any kind must be fought
Sami ,   New York, USA   (01.22.12)
Racism and intolerance of any kind must be fought. One place to start is in the schools and to make laws against it.
3. Its all political theatre ala the social protests
Al   (01.22.12)
The Ethiopians have finally become true Israelis. They have learned to bitch and complain with a sense of entitlement. Of course you cant say that or else they will call you a racist. Question: When will the Sudanese gate crashers step up to the plate and start their bitchfest?
4. I jokingly wish for an Ethiopian daughter in law, on one
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.22.12)
condition: she has to be an orphan! I am simply afraid of the cultural chasm that there'd probably exist between my side of European, ashkenazi family and (none the less valuable) Ethiopian one. But it could be real fun on Pesah.....?
5. Beautiful people
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (01.22.12)
The Africans are beautiful people. They have a rich culture, they are warm and friendly, and they embrace Israel. Many have been through hell, before arriving in Israel. Why diminish, even a single one, by racist actions? To what end, and to what benefit to Israel. Sure, a flurry of talkbacks will ensue, filled with tirades of negativity. But, the Ashkenazim and Sephardim, have been at the receiving end of exactly the same racism, and we should know better! Racism, bigotry and hatred are all inconsistent with Jewish teaching. We are taught to defeat our enemies, not to hate our own.
6. When they have some possible positive suggestions
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.22.12)
I might give them my support. Right now it just sounds like they want hand outs. Much like the social protest of the summer.
7. racism a shame to israeli society
dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (01.22.12)
8. #2 what laws do you suggest?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.22.12)
Any law that specifies a race, any race, having preference over another is racist. Apartheid is giving privilege to one race over another. Is that the sort of law you want to put into place? There is only one way to beat racism, and that's the way Mazi Tazazo did originally - succeeding. And please note, there was and is no Apartheid in her way.
9. Two comments:
R ,   Israel   (01.22.12)
1) #6 Rebecca - where do you get that idea? How would you feel if you wanted to buy a flat and the owner refused to sell it to you due to your color, origin, sex, religion, etc.? 2) I agree with the article, but if you want turnout, you've got to get the message out in advance. I ususally hear about these things after they appear on TV or the next day's news.
10. #9 I repeat - what do you want to do about it
rebecca ,   Modiin   (01.22.12)
Personally , If someone does not want me, their loss - hence I live in Israel and not where I used to live. But I repeat - what do you suggest - a law forcing specifically one place to sell Ethiopians houses? That is racist, in reverse maybe, but put it into law and it's the same as apartheid. Next there will be laws saying people have to sell to hardim in heart of Tel Aviv's gay area? Or maybe some secular wants to live in ramat beit shemesh b, and they now have to sell to him. No, this cannot be forced.
11. That is what happen when you keep making differentiation
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (01.22.12)
in between Israelis.. Here, I only hear about Jews, Arabs, Russians, Ethiopians, Christians, Druzes... but rarely the word "Israelis" So please, don't cry a river now ! It's just so hypocrite of you ! The whole world has been warning Israel of its racist tendencies for decades...
12. The only difference between the white & blacks
Moshe ,   Usa   (01.22.12)
is the willingness to give quality service to their fellow man. We are made in the image of G-d. Therefore, we must act & give quality service to mankind in that image. It is in this service that we reflect our G-d like qualities. I foresaw this day years ago when black Jews came to Israel. Blacks don't want to give quality H-Shem like service. Therefore they don't want to work. They want to complain. Any one in business knows the importance of quality service & the best firms hire candidates based on their character & integrity. And that’s exactly what I do too. If you want to cry about your freedom in Israel, go back to africa or wherever you came.
13. #12 ethiopians work just as hard as anyone else
moshe stern ,   israel/usa   (01.22.12)
if not harder. ur racist comment is unwelcome, and an embaressment to jews everywhere. how dare u say something negative about ethiopians, they are jews,to and as such u need,to,treat them as part of the family
14. thanks for a thoughtful liberal piece
doron pisker   (01.22.12)
15. #3 Al
critic ,   Israel   (01.22.12)
Has anyone told you that your posts are insufferably smug and patronising toward Israelis.? I mean seriously, you need to work on that big time It is beyond irritating.
16. #13 irony
xtian ,   usa   (01.22.12)
the Ethiopians are Jews so they deserve equal treatment? Um, no, They deserve equal treatment because they are humans.
17. that night club broke at least a few laws...
Miron ,   USA   (01.23.12)
name the names and put the criminals in prison. Let's have a board of shame with their photos. However her statements regarding "people who look like her" make me worry. Were they denied flats because they "looked like her" or because they tried to pay for their flats with welfare money? Let's not sweep everything under the rag of racism because he says she says... US has strict regalement what apartment and in what block you can rent with state subsistence funds. So, a lot depends on more information. If it comes to light Mrs. Mazi Tazazo is making bad call here that will in the end hurt her own cause. If the neighborhood is maliciously racist, get them into the same penitentiary. I am sure we have racists. I do wish reporters presented the other side argument in this debate regarding Kiryat Malachi.
18. #10
R ,   Israel   (01.23.12)
Yes, refusing to sell to someone because he is Ethiopian or any other ethnicity should be illegal. Proving it is difficult, but nevertheless it should be illegal. Maybe it is already and if so, there is probably evidence in the case in Kiryat Malachi to prosecute those who got together and signed a vow or whatever it was not to sell to people based on their color. It's 2012humanity should strive to advance, not regress.
19. #10 Rebecca
R ,   Israel   (01.23.12)
Another thing - if we adopt your attitude that we will not live where we are not wanted, we would twe would continue to wander and be unprotected . Nowhere in the world were we wanted, including here. We live here because Jews stood up and fought for their rights. The Ethiopians must do the same. If they are good enough to serve in the army they are good enough buy a home in the place that they fought for.
