That "we the people" chose our own president. We sure dont have the opportunity to select our own politicians
3. Would it be possible
Sagi   (01.22.12)
To hold a referendum with very simple questions. Do we wish to continue with the present system. NO Do we wish to have direct elections based on regional candidates. YES Do we wish to live in a Republic based on a Presidential system. YES. Should we be able to vote for single representatives as opposed to parties. YES Can we select and elect our own President. YES Do we want a Constitution. YES OH !!!! I just woke up, pleasant dream, but like all dreams, gone and forgotten in no time.
4. Rav Lau for President
Dovid ,   Modiin   (01.22.12)
Rav Yisrael Meir Lau, chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv is the perfect candidate for President.
5. What does the President of Israel do besides nothing?
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.22.12)
Will a man who is so important to Israel's optimal practical funcioning be changed to a post where he will become an un-usefull almost nothing? Come on,please!Let this man be where he is talented to be!
6. Stanley Fischer for Prime Minister!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.22.12)
Then Bibi can become the President and won't be in a position to cause more damage to this country than he has done to date! He can then write two new books titled "How to lose all your friends overseas" and "Division of Israel made easy"!
7. president
sue ,   israel   (01.22.12)
it will be GREAT to see shimon leave the residence.
8. Or...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (01.22.12)
Stanley Fisher becomes PM and Netanyahu becomes the Central Bank of Israel's President. That might be a good arrangement for changing chairs a little bit. I just don't have the slightest idea on how Stanley thinks about the politics of Israel.
9. ENOUGH OF SHIMON
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.22.12)
Bring on the next.
10. # 4 Your proposed candidate
Sagi   (01.22.12)
is the most imperfect and most unsuitable.
11. Peres bashers
Dan   (01.23.12)
you should be ashamed of yourselves, the Peres did more for Israel tha Bibi could ever do even if he remains prime minister for another 20 years!!!
12. Lay off Shimon Peres. He is a great man.
Kolumn9 ,   Soon in Judea   (01.23.12)
He has been there as David Ben Gurion's right hand since the beginning of the state of Israel. He was instrumental in creating the first Israeli alliance with France that gave it the equipment to win the 1967 war. There are untold other successes in diplomacy and international relations that you can find if you read about him. He was responsible for bringing the nuclear project to completion. He has been a loyal and diligent servant of the state of Israel for more than 60 years. Some of you might not like some of his politics, but at least have the decency of respecting his commitment and contribution to the state of Israel.
13. Does President Shimon Peres know he is being booted out?
Rivkah   (01.23.12)
He will move back to Tel Aviv and take the protection of HaShem's love for him with him.
14. a good candidate...
Michel Eisenfeld ,   Israel   (01.23.12)
I think the fonction needs somebody that can symbolise the good of our country.Prof AUMANN is I believe a very good choice for it.
15. #4
(01.23.12)
Your proposed candidate is colourless, odourless and tasteless
16. Mr S Fischer
(01.23.12)
Mr. PM I think that our Bank Governer would be a splendid choice for our next President- he is definately the best we have to represent our country.
17. The office of the unelected president
jason white ,   afula, israel   (01.23.12)
should be eliminated now! We do not need it and we do not need peres. People seem to forget the oslo death accords and the 1700 dead Israelis. Now with armed terrorist armies on our borders, people praise peres as if that is something good for our future.
18. For President
(01.23.12)
How about Amos Oz
19. #18: How about Thomas Friedmann of the N.Y.Slime?
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.23.12)
You should re-think my own candidacy. I am willing to serve the People. I hear Your Call! I FEEL You. I am One of You. I need no money. I speak many languages and if needed I can speak in Tongues!!! I shall be a Benevolent Dictator for Life....if you just let me.
20. # 19
Eighteen   (01.23.12)
You are the salmon that jumps on the hook.
21. Fischer is not what he is made out to be
Sid ,   Jerusalem   (01.23.12)
Something is terribly wrong here that a man who comes on Aliyah in his latter years propelled straight in to a top job, no doubt with all the perks etc, who recieved his Tedut Zehut from PM Netanyahu, is now being proposed as President, especially as his ability to steer the correct course economically will be shown to have failed. Why did he but 60$bn and not gold? Why did he say the Euro was a strong currency and would be immune to external pressures? We don't need the likes of him in the Bank let alone as President - Bibi has got it wrong again
