The assertion that our bombs aren't big enough to take out Iranian nuclear sites is patently nonsensical. I wish I hadn't retired from the Air Force when I did. I'd love to drop a JDAM on Natanz. It wouldn't take much. These facilities may be harder to take out than Osirak was, but they aren't indestructible. This is just another stall by our government. Either that or the mightiest military power on Earth, the U.S., has an inferiority complex with regard to Iran.

The only signal that needs to be sent now is the immediate destruction of Iran's fortified nuclear facilities. To achieve that tactical nuclear weapons must be used. That goes for US as well for Israel. The necessary US part of that operation is to remove from the table any proposal of sanctions against Israel in the UNSC. Can the Obama administration be depended on to do at least that? I'm not sure. It seems that all the noise about sanctions is only the pretext for not to take in time necessary action and at the same time prevent Israel from doing that. I hope I'm wrong!

Making public the supposed weakness of the bunker buster bomb at this precise time has only one purpose: to influence Israeli public opinion into delaying any preemptive attack on Iran before the US presidential elections which will likely be tough on the incumbent administration unable to overcome the economic recession & high unemployment. It does not make sense to inform Iran of such a weakness unless it is to signal the US intention to refrain from military action. Panetta commented in line with that possible explanation by claiming again that sanctions are a good alternative to the buster bombs to pressure Iran into giving up its nuclear program. Nothing reliable will come out of Washington political mouths until elections are over. Not from Republicans trying to blame Obama for his handling of the Iran issue & cozying to the pro-Israel voters nor the Democrats swearing eternal support to Israel survival against a new Holocaust, It is all tied to internal needs to keep the electorate as happy as possible until November.
