1. 'Liberal' Judaism resulted in Christianity
Rosanna ,   Tel Aviv   (01.31.12)
The most effective 'Liberal ' Jews eventually evolved into a new religion - Christianity - which over the past 2 millenia have killed millions of Jews (secular & otherwise).
2. Leniant Judaism
Zivron   (01.31.12)
DEEP AND meaningful and Leniant judaism are needed inTel aviv Haifa and the Development Towns and need rebranding like jewish historical and current conflicts study and learning groups .
3. #1
Joe ,   Aurora Canada   (01.31.12)
You can't have both ways - no religious plurality and the majority of funding by non-orthodox Jews.
4. They are a fringe group
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.31.12)
They do not have the numbers and the support that they like to think they have. A tiny minority of Anglo tourists.
5. A non-Orthodox Rabbi is not a Rabbi
S Judah ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.12)
6. its an issue of ideology not rights
reuvain   (01.31.12)
The leading Conservative rabbi in California, David Wolpe, stated that he does not believe in the Exodus. So the point is simple, he rejects the first line of the Ten Commandments. The Reform and Conservative have been masterful in their pr, claiming its a battle about rights, In truth its one about beliefs and ideology. They reject basic Jewish beliefs, by doing so the put themselves outside the mainstream of Jewish tradiiton. For that reason their rabbis, who reject these ideas cannot be appointed.
7. # 5 Who is a Rabbi
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.01.12)
A real Rabbi is a spiritual leader, who leads and protects his-her community,in 44, the haredi Rabbi Y Teitelbaum left his community and escaped on the Kastner train to Switzerland, while Reform Rabbi, Leo Baeck stayed in Germany 33-43 to oversee the evacuation of 100,000 Jews from Germany,he could have escaped too,but he stayed, because the ship captain leaves last, rabbi Baeck was arrested by the Germans and was sent to a concentration camp,Rabbi Baeck survived the war,so who is a real Rabbi ?.
8. Why stop at reform clergy?
avi ,   nyc   (02.01.12)
Why not include Jews for Jesus clergy. What makes them less "rabbinical" than reform?
9. #7 what a dumb argument.
avi ,   nyc   (02.01.12)
Assimilated Jews like Germany"s reform acted more goyim than the goyim, hoping to be accepted as such.
10. #7 who is the real rabbi?
Babishka ,   USA/Mea Shearim   (02.01.12)
1. How many disciples/descendants does Leo Baeck have today? 2. How many disciples/descendants does Yoel Teitelbaum have today?
11. Should they appoint a Jew for Jesus
Mordechai   (02.01.12)
Should they appoint a Jew for Jesus as a Rabbi too in the name of pluralism. Ultimately the citizens of Israel choose to elect governments that always decide not to appoint reform and conservative Rabbis to any position. So clearly Israeli's by their votes are saying they have no interest in appointing non halachic Rabbi's who represent diaspora Judaism to any positions. In a city as large as Jerusalem they can only claim 15 non Orthodox shuls. How large are they 30 40 members at most. These movements are dying in the diaspora and want the Israeli taxpayer to pay to keep their diaspora leaderships salary.
12. Vicious hatred against non-orthodox Jews
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (02.01.12)
Discrimination and deligitmization against non-orthodox Jews. Exactly what the arabs are doing against Israel and against Jews. The contribution of non-orthodox Jews to Judaism is enormous, financially, socially and politically,
13. Reform and liberal Judaism
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.01.12)
Years ago i talked to a French "liberal rabbi" . He prefered Jews to come to the Beth Knesseth by car on Shabbat , instead of not coming at all and loosing every contact with Judaism .
14. to mordechai #11
Tomas   (02.01.12)
using your logical many haredi rabbi should not be recognozed as rabbis either since they are almost as bad as jews for jesus. many haredi rabbis do not represent torah judaism. in fact some refrm & conservative rabbis are more jewish than some haredi rabbis.
15. Don't do it!
Reuven   (02.01.12)
16. non-Orthodox rabbi
Ed Codish ,   Pardessiya   (02.01.12)
The only real solution to the request is strict separation of synagogue and State - to the benefit of both. Let any group (yes, Jews for Jesus, too) hire any rabbi or other clergyperson they want. The Stae should not be hiring rabbis for anyone.
17. # 9 what a dumb argument.
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.01.12)
concerning Reform and assimilated Jews.
18. # 10 How many disciples
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.01.12)
Babishka ! the disciples/descendants of Leo Baeck ,the reform and conservative movement in the US,are the backbone of support for Israel, while the followers of Rabbi Y Teitelbaum, joined forces with the enemies of Israel, the palestinians, wherever there is a pro Israel demonstration, the satmars are there too,in support of the palestinians.
19. # 1 "Liberal' Judaism
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.01.12)
Rosana ! Israel was founded by secular Jews,Herzel,Trumpeldor ,Weitzman,Ben Gurion, and by liberal,Reform Jews, who provided the money and political support for the new state,in 48, Ben Gurion asked his Minister of the treasury, how much money can we collect from American Jews ?.Eliezer Kaplan responded, maybe 2 million Dollar,Golda Meir was sent to America, and was given 50 Million Dollars by Reform and liberal Jews, with that money Israel purchased arms from czechoslovakia that saved Israel, today the same Jews who helped Israel so much are forbidden to serve as Rabbis in Israel.
20. #18 ask any member of a Reform/Conservative temple
Babishka ,   USA/Mea Shearim   (02.01.12)
...who was Leo Baeck, and you are likely to get a blank stare! There is a dwindling membership in the non-Orthodox movements, and the anti-Zionists are very visible in the more liberal denominations. How many Satmars can you find in J Street, Jewish Voice for Peace, Americans for Peace Now and other anti-Zionist groups? These are all Reform or Conservative Jews, your so-called "disciples of Leo Baeck."
21. # 20 How many satmars in J street ?.
J.K. ,   brooklyn USA   (02.02.12)
and how many satmars are in AIPAC ?.yes, many liberal Jews oppose the policies of Likud, but unlike the satmars they are not against the existence of Israel,as a grand mother told her haredi grand children : You can allow yourself to oppose israel,i can't,i was in Auschwitz.
22. people want to be jewish, let's not push them away
Ari Ben Canaan   (05.30.12)
All of us believers who are rail against the atheism and the extremedisconnect from Judaism that is pervading and fragmenting Israeli society: we are shooting ourselves in the foot by setting up barriers for conservative and reform Judaism. There are many Israelis, many POTENTIAL OLIM, who want to reconnect with the faith of their people and want to live a more kosher life, but they are being turned off and fed to the heretics because of the orthodox monopoly that we have sustained. Do you guys want this ugly "you are either orthodox or an atheist" divide to continue? It is unhealthy for us Jews.
23. agree.
David ,   Brazil   (05.30.12)
btw, a lot of orthodox rabbis were against Zionism...
