1. Don t omit prevention against...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (02.07.12)
pedophiles and other predators.
2. So immature-so funny!
s B   (02.07.12)
It is also to deal with "family purity," or the Jewish law that addresses married couples' conduct during menstruation. You people have got to be kidding!
3. What's the point of that?
American Sabrah ,   Israel   (02.07.12)
Besides what are you going to teach teenagers about sex that they don't already know from porn, internet, erotic novels, movies, etc? Teenagers are vulnerable when it comes to physical intimate matters and unfortunately some of them cave into their impulses and lose complete inhibition thus suffering from serious consequences. Handing out condoms/contraceptives to teenagers will just encourage them to be more sexually active rather than promoting "safe sex". Its the parents responsibility to educate their children about the facts of life and severe repercussions that ensue when not practiced in a cognizant mature manner.
4. About time!
Israeli grandma   (02.07.12)
Up till now unless a child's parents do their duty and give basic information as their children grow up, the next opportunity for sex education is either mythology and smut from school friends, or last minute info from the pre-marriage advisors.
5. learning about it only increases desires to try it
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.07.12)
It has been shown in the USA, that when kids learn about sex in schools, they begin to try it out, and not as it is taught as safe sex, but they do un-sage sex. THis is going to be a big mistake for the dati leumi crowd.
6. what are the reasons?
david ,   Jerusalem   (02.07.12)
"Not much has been written about the issue, for obvious reasons," Sheinfeld said. Honestly asking
7. I don't understand #2-
(02.07.12)
What exactly do you mean by so immature and so funny? The laws themselves, or the fact they're teaching them to kids ?
8. Religious Sex Education
Ari Shapiro ,   Sarasota, USA   (02.07.12)
How does "Religious Sex Education" differ from "Sex Education"? It's in the yeshivot that this subject really has to be taught - and not by the rabbis but by real educators on the subject.
9. #3
Trev ,   Canada   (02.08.12)
I don't know if you have ever used a condom but they suck, they are aweful, ruin sex. No one wants to use a condom but they are safer and stop you from making babys, people use the for that reasons having a condom is not an insentive to have sex, people will have it with or with out the condom.
10. Teach, not Preach!
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (02.08.12)
Our youth do receive many messages about sex. Many of them conflicting. Parents receive as many conflicting statements, as well. The comment above, that teaching sex-ed encourages sex is baseless, and worse damaging. Asserting that teaching contraception encourages sex, is wrong, but worse can be deadly. Condoms save lives. Period! Sex ed, done objectively helps our young Israeli's deal effectively, with this complex, powerful and beautiful part of how God made us human.
11. #8: who are the "real educators" for sex ed?
david ,   new york   (02.08.12)
do you believe that sex ed should be taught in an amoral, areligious context? don't we have enough of that in israeli society?
12. It has been proven....
Kika ,   Florida   (02.08.12)
that teaching safe sex reduces unwanted pregnancies (reducing abortions as a result), and the spread of STD's. When the Bush admin. cut funding to Comprehensive Sex-Ed programs (teaching safe sex), and promoted the Abstinence-only programs, those states which taught abstinence-only sex had the highest increase in teenage pregnancies. Which proves that when teens want to have sex, **they will do it no matter what!** We might as well give them the best information available to keep them safe.
13. How about teaching the girls to stay away
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.11.12)
from young men,with no education,no trade,no work ?.
