They would love an excuse to seize control of the Greek half of Cyprus. The Greeks are close to financial collapse. Fighting a war to resist the Turks might be the thing that pushes them over the edge.

If Israel were to enter into any defense pact with Cyprus although the actual military contribution would be all one sided ( Israel contributes ) it would be good for business with Cyprus and ensure Israel gets an airbase which is badly needs. All it takes is for Israel's runways to be destroyed or planes themselves to be destroyed in a missile strike to cripple Israel just the way Egypt was in 1967. If some planes at least can be based in Cyprus they can be recalled in times of emergency and they can train in peacetime, If Israel can get a defense pact with Cyprus it may eventually extend to Greece as well which certainly has a bigger navy than Israel. Defense pacts lead eventually to a form of NATO where at attack against one is an attack against us all which makes everybody safer.

Its geographically one of the closest friendly countries being just off the coast of Israel and is well protected by the British navy and other allied forces. North-eastern Cyprus is also claimed (and occupied) by an Islamic state (Turkey), giving Cyprus and Israel a lot of common ground.
