1. Wonderful news! I do hope those plants are well-guarded
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.09.12)
though. I can't imagine that desalination plants wouldn't be a target for terrorists.
2. It's not a "surplus" until the deficit has been made up
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.09.12)
The Kinneret is still many meters below its upper red line, and many of Israel's aquifers have been compromised by over-pumping. Let's allow them to recover before we talk of "surplus" and exporting water. If those desalination plants are damaged (as during war), those natural reserves will take on strategic significance.
3. Great, now I'm waiting for the news of us dying of thirst by

2019!
4. A wonderful export opportunity

Fresh water supplies by pipeline and shipping water tankers all around the Med
5. #1. All the more reason
Tim ,   Brighton   (02.09.12)
To make that water available piped or shipped to neighbouring countries in the Med and the Arabian Peninsula Reverse Osmosis Membranes employing cutting edge Nano Technology are advancing in leaps and bounds Lets hope this translates into faster processing speeds, increased water volumes, lower energy consumption and lower overall costs
6. #5 - Let's hope it translates to dependence on water
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.09.12)
from the Jewish State.
7. #6- I agree...it would be ironic if.....
froike ,   NY NY   (02.09.12)
All the countries surrounding Israel were forced to buy water. You can't drink OIL...but thank G-d...Israel is finding an abudance of Natural Gas too! Looks like the worm is certainly turning in Israel's favor.
8. Water surplus by 2020?
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (02.09.12)
This is quite an ambition. Problem is that by 2020, the Zionist entity will no longer occupy the Holy Land. So all this speculation is purely academic.
9. #8 - Isn't your prediction pure speculation as well?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.10.12)
Also, why are you using Humus terminology?
10. #7. yep. It would be peace through control of that resource
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.10.12)
everyone needs in the semi-arid and arid climes. I would hope that Israel would give good rates though so that people wouldn't get violent, but time has shown that nothing Israel does can be seen as positive by most people.
11. Wait a second. The idea here is to use all this desalinated
Henry from New York ,   USA   (02.10.12)
and brackish water for things other than drinking and food preparation, right? That way the natural fresh water can be reserved for ingestion? (not that I imagine Israeli sinks would all be fitted with a "mayim melakhim" knob in the future, of course!)
12. BS. Israel Jewish population will double by 2050. We will
Miron ,   USA   (02.10.12)
always be behind on most nesessary resources. The fact is if we do not add water capacity now, we will have catastrophic health issues within a decade including sudden increase in infant mortality rates and possibly social abnormalities where blocks "with water" will command prices on real estate. A very common practice in Arab world, by the way. Situation, for all intents and purposes, is extremely perilous for anyone even mildly involved in Israel infrastructure.
13. #8. Not sure about the state of your 'entity'
Tim ,   Brighton   (02.10.12)
14. Want a water surplus sooner.
manicdrummer ,   Galilee, Israel   (02.10.12)
Start praying! There is a God and He's standing by at the switchboard. And it's a free call.
15. Great news!
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (02.10.12)
But will the Israelis start taking more showers on a regular base, please?

Have the foresight to ensure enough Water Engineers Textile Technologists and Chemists and Microbiologists to develop better Membranes, the Water Delivery Systems - the Pipes, the Tanker Ships and of course produce and ship safely the best quality of drinking water possible The economics makes such good sense. There would be two types of market 1. For continuous supply - mostly piped 2. Intermittent Emergency Supplies. Not every country around the Med would be prepared to have a RE Plant on stand by in case of a drought..Far more economic to buy it from an industrial producer enjoying economies of scale. Indeed the demand could come from further than the Med. Even in the UK there are instances of extreme drought where emergency supplies would be invaluable 3. It would not be enough to become a leader in the field such as the Netherlands in Ship Salvage..just by producing water. One would need to master EVERY aspect of the Water Business from Membrane Technology, to Production and Energy Provision, to Quality Assurance, to Storage and to Delivery and Shipping A big ask but Israel is ideally positioned to do it. And the contribution to the economy could be immense

Israel did in 63 years what you cannot achieve even after 2,000 years of Nazism, antisemitism and oscurantism. Why don't you write in Al Jazeera instaed ?

Good news concerning Israel always seems to bother you to no end... Do you simply wake up each morning, foaming at the mouth to berate Jews, click your way to the JP website and get off on it as a daily routine???? certainly appears so...
