X rays have shown the temple was next to Al Aqsa not under it. The Roman statue of Cesar was generally placed over where a temple was razed. Theoretically the temple could be rebuilt in it's exact location without hurting Al Aqsa. That temple is built on the site where Abraham almost slew Issac. The Al Aqsa mosque was a renovation of the Church of St. Mary of Justinian. Abd El-Wahd (who ruled from 705-715) reconstructed the Christian- Byzantine Church of St. Mary and converted it into a mosque. He left the structure as it was, a typical Byzantine "basilica" structure with a row of pillars on either side of the rectangular "ship" in the center. All he added was an onion-like dome on top of the building to make it look like a mosque. He then named it El-Aqsa, so it would sound like the one mentioned in the Koran. Islam is typically all propaganda, if you dig deeper, it is not pretty (for Islam).

From the way that I learned it, "The Rock", which is under the Dome of the Rock, not Al Aqsa, where Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac, was in the "Holy of Holies" of the Temple. That was the inner sanctum of the Temple, where only the high priest was allowed to go. So, despite what supposed X-rays show, the statue of Caesar could not have been where the Temple was, unless the Temple was so large, that it covered that area as well. And btw, I saw a program, several years ago, that showed the thermal imaging of the "Rock" area, that exactly matched the outlines of the "Holy of Holies", from what the Bible says were the dimensions of the inner sanctum. They did show these images on the program. So, whom should we believe???
