1. I seem to have read this before...
Baruch ,   Tel Aviv   (02.28.12)
...and when society is unable to "naturally" reduce the number of Torah-observant Jews, then what is the next step? We saw with the Yemenite and Sephardic children in the 1950's. Mr London, why not just kidnap the Haredi children at age 10, put them into 25 years of indoctrination and service, then release them. Just like the Czar's army.
2. Yaron London=RADICAL ATHEIST LEFTIST!
Mike   (02.28.12)
3. In a civil war London's friends would either be killed or
Abe   (02.28.12)
expelled!
4. say no tojewish hezbollah
stern ,   antwerp belgium   (02.28.12)
Why not castrate all Haredim, imitating the aims of a previous friend of the Jewish people - Hitler ?
5. Wow-reduce their birthrate - is this Hitler talking ?
who cares   (02.28.12)
Reduce haredims birthrate - send jews and disabled to the gas ? Which spirit is driving the writer ? A bad one - thats for sure ! As a haredim, I woul have a problem with the writer Jair London.....
6. Or stop producing Yaron babies?!!!!
Tim ,   San Francisco, USA   (02.28.12)
The true Hezbollah is you, Yaron, not the religious!!! You should be ashamed of your suggestion. The Israelis should increase their birth rate dramatically and the only ones who have a healthy birth rate are the religious. Religious are not perfect, so are people like you Yaron or non-religious people.
7. A Very Sick and Twisted Person
Joel Busner ,   Galilee Israel   (02.28.12)
Shame on any Israeli media that gives this viscious self hating animal a forum.
8. Yaron go flush yourself down the toilet!
HaifaGuy   (02.28.12)
As much as i want to agree with the headline, this guy is just a walking festering clot of hate spewing his venom right, left and center. Today it's the haredim, last time it was the Russians. Save your patentim to your bridge buddies at the marina club. Maybe he should take a closer look at his sorry self. Take that Prozak and it it fails, take cyanide you poor bitter old man...
9. As an Israeli Arab
Omron ,   Melbourne Holiday   (02.28.12)
I'm disgusted by this article. Who advocates reducing birth rates of a population group? Only a person with a fascist mentality. There will never be a civil war in israel, not between Jews and seculars, not between Arabs and secular Jews, not between religious Arabs and religious Jews.
10. wow what hate mongering
avi   (02.28.12)
what is clear from your article is that you are most definitely not liberal, not enlightened in the slightest you are full of despicable hatred the kind that has contributed to the tragedies that have befallen us..you serve our enemies well.i hope one day you will have the care and respect for people that differ from you to hold rational discourse
11. One Doesn't Cancel Out the Other
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (02.28.12)
London is right about reforming the system of government, but I fail to see how it's contradictory with Haredi enlistment or national service. True, one year of national service isn't the same as three years of military service, but you have to start somewhere. When the Haredim do national service, they'll be exposed to the real world and hopefully this will contribute to their proper education as the author suggests. The bottom line, and this is what the author seems to ignore, is that even if the Haredi population stays the same forever, they are already a large burden on society and must be integrated today, regardless of future population growth.
12. steming the growth of the haredi population
ari cohen ,   jerusalem israel   (02.28.12)
i have been reading ynews for years and i have always always felt that it is a quality news source. but this article is full of hate! we have a problem with the haredim and we need to find a solution..but to say that we should prevent them from having children is taking it too far.
13. Israel will not be China
Golon ,   modiin   (02.28.12)
If you want to do something to the Haredim, first do it to the Arabs. If it makes you feel squeamish then maybe its because you are a bigoted racist. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. We already established that for the "benefit" of the state the government may ethnically cleanse,,, I mean disengage people from their homes based on their ethnic identity.
14. You are sick for writing such rabbish. shame on Ynet
hadad ,   u.k   (02.28.12)
15. Like Haman the Agagite
Molongo   (02.28.12)
This is not a Jew anymore someone who can write like this, should not be allowed into Israel.
16. Shameful article
Ros ,   Tel Aviv   (02.28.12)
Maybe the religious boys could be taught different skills - to work in hospitals, as social workers, looking after elderly people (all these would still give them time to study. Without all these wonderful babies born - where would the State of Israel be!!!!!
17. Author is a fascist
steve bronfman ,   Vancouver canada   (02.28.12)
We should bs greatful for the orthodox birthrate. We should encourage them to have more kids, a proportion of whom will become less religious anyway. The premise of the author is illogical as if they were Hezballah like fundamentalists they'd be more likely to serve in the army, his argument doesn't match reality. It's fascist for him to promote a type of sterialisation for Jews he doesn't agree with ideologically. This is typical of the fascist lefts mentality but usually not so overtly presented.
18. Yediot needs a new approach to its columns
Gedalyah ,   Neve Daniel, Israel   (02.28.12)
Even when I read the titles of the op-eds in the English edition of Haaretz, it still doesn't stunt my reaction to the absurd, amateur and naive ideas I hear about in Yediot Ahronot. These aren't experts talking in this paper. Someone who would suggest reducing the physical numbers of a rival political demographic is a symptom of corruption. I hope there aren't more people who think that what he just suggested is okay, otherwise I fear for our society.
19. Ynet must ban this incitement and the author
Yoni the JEW ,   Jewish Homeland   (02.28.12)
this is nothing more than hateful incitement. If Ynet continues to publish such it should be held responsible for the incitement as well. Ynet must not allow irresponsible hateful inciting authors like this to ever publish for them again
20. Baseless Hatrid
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.28.12)
The author of the article is the clearest example of Baseless hatrid I have ever seen. A Jews Army G-d Forbid???? What is his problem. He really thinks that we are going to start killing civilians like Hezbollah does. If anything the army will have more morals and won't kick Jews out of their own homes. I wish Yaron London would just move out of Israel we could use less people like him
21. They can have all the kids they want and can afford to rear!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (02.28.12)
With the emphasis on afford to rear.
22. shame on the author
Dudu ,   Raanana   (02.28.12)
sure, there are social problems in Israel. however, the writer might be considered as a self hating individual!
23. just cause someone writes does not mean it should be publish
leah ,   Israel   (02.28.12)
To publish such hatred is irresponsible
24. What's next : Concentration Camps for Chareidim?
Tevye ,   Chelm   (02.28.12)
If you would have replaced the word "Chareidim" by "Arabs" and if Ben Ari would have written it instead of London, then the whole world would be shouting "racism!", and on this saturday night thousands would have gathered at Rabin square to demonstrate against racism.
25. Disgusting
Ari   (02.28.12)
How dare YNet publish such an awful, hateful, twisted article? Secular extremism at its worst...
26. Horrible title; ridiculous content
Rivkah F. ,   Jerusalem   (02.28.12)
I am NOT Haredi. But the Haredim are not like Hizbollah. They are not an army armed by a foreign power-Iran. They may be annoying and even violent at times but not indoctrinated to murder Jews. Jews. They will have to go to work in order to live & are gradually joining the work force, especially the women. I have joined forces with them regarding special education whose teachers include many amazing haredi women I shudder to think at measures which London has in mind to limit their birthrate. In the meantime, many Haredi families produce fine, caring, sharing children; others do not. But please stop the gratuitous haredi bashing and hatred. It is harmful to all of us.
27. I never thought I'd be supporting any view held by London,
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.28.12)
but in this case I'll make an exception. Cool down all you PC/ nice folks!Nobody's talking castration here, all that has to be done, is voluntary restraint based on (what else) monetary losses caused by uncontrolled breeding. It is not "inhumane" NOT having 10+ kids! Having 10+ children is shall we say... bovine, when one takes into account the quality of upbringing the parents can offer. In the case of haredim, quality is of no importance, since in the eyes of true, pious believers: the stupider/poorer the people, the better chance of following the Imaginary Friend. That's how they like them! No amount of "exposing" to the secular values shall bring the haredi mentality around, just as no amount of education/exposure by the Israeli Arabs has reduced their animal blood-lust and brutality that is flamed and nurished by their Holy Kouran. Stop dreaming seculars and start acting! For London growing out of the lunacy of left-wing ideology would be a huge step in the right direction. In this case- he's 100% correct.
28. Legal action should be taken against Ynet
levi ,   U.K   (02.28.12)
This article is illigal nazi propoganda . if it was published in the Europe then Ynet would be closed and its directors would be taken to prison.
29. Stop calling him names and read what he says
Joe ,   Jerusalem   (02.28.12)
London is not advocating eugenics or murder. He is looking at a problem with eyes wide open and declaring that the Charedi public is benefiting from resources without contributing back. The state protects them with an army and gives them a wide array of social benefits that they would get no where else. London advocates that this unfairness come to an end. What is so radical about that? His prescription is to change the social contract that until now allows the Haredi public to get all of these benefits without paying for them and without having to deal with the consequences of their life style such as alienation of their youth, poverty, and high rates of unemployment. Perhaps, by ending their special perks (such as money for study and special grants for larger families) they will change their ways. In the meantime, the great benefits of their purported Torah study is not covering what they consume. They like to insist that their lifestyle and study is compensation enough and how much worse we would be for all of us if not for them. To me this sounds like a bunch of self serving rationalization that has no basis other than "this is what has been done since Europe" as though Jewish history and Jewish thought began in the study halls of Ponevesch and the Mir and not at Sinai. Poppy-cock!
30. Ynet has some opinion pieces just to stir comment.
