1. not enough preparation or maturity
f   (03.06.12)
17 yr olds may not be mature enough. when i was in my 50's i went on this expedition with a group of school kids and felt nearly helpless at helping them with their emotions. kids will be kids - it's so hard for some of them to cope. also this might be the first time some of them have been abroad...concentration camps are not a playground.
2. Oy vey!

3. Value of Trips Overblown
yaakov ,   TA   (03.06.12)
Yes, for some teens the trip to the camps is useful. However, I know for a fact that far too kids many view the trip as a vacation overseas and act in inappropriately. Books and films should be graphic enough to impress teens about the enormity of the horrors of the Holocaust, without taking everyone to Poland. It's long past time to question the need for such trips for all students
4. Don't understand something :
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (03.06.12)
The ashes are collected in one giant mound on the ground. Why isn't it protected by a barrier, container, or whatever. One strong wind - ashes are blown away ! Or in this case, trampled on.
5. return ashes to israel for proper burial.

Absoulutely Right... There is plenty to learn about Holocaust, just by touring the awful grounds, the the baraks, the crematoriums, the files and awful signs on the gate.. In every nazi death camp, they preserved some remains of personal belongings of the millions of innocent people, who were tortured , murderred and burned to ashes... It is time to let the poor souls of the innocent victims of Holicaust, to be put to rest... Not doing so for so long, is like continuing their torture and suffering...
9. to #7 zionism isn't political movment ,
ghostq   (03.06.12)
and all praying is done facing zion aka jerusalem, part of jews prayer is to zion, it's religion origin issue.
10. seems obvious to me
chani ,   modiin, Israel   (03.06.12)
The boy probably wanted to get a better view, and since as an Israeli he has never been taught to wait in line, not shove, or be considerate, he just cut to where he would have it best for himself.
11. If this can happen, it wasn't adequately protected.
Norman ,   Minneapolis, MN, USA   (03.06.12)
Don't blame a child for being a child.
12. Stupid boy with no manners...

13. homeland
return ashes   (03.06.12)
there was no "zionist" state then, they were jews and israel was their homeland. Ashes should be returned to jerusalem for proper buriel.
14. to Norman - a child?
Justine   (03.07.12)
Should they put a wire-fence with high voltage around it? Do Israelis put fences around each grave and memorial so that "children" do not jump on them? Besides, I don't think 7-years old children are sent on those trips and teenagers should know a little bit better. It's not the end of the world, but it irritates me that some commentators seem to suggest that it's somehow Poland's fault that an Israeli boy misbehaved.
15. #5 Who said only Jews
Dan ,   Kefar Saba   (03.07.12)
The article states only the Jewish connection, but who said that all the bodies were Jewish? Gypsys, homosectuals, communists and many others were also slaughtered.
16. a single student?
Mari   (03.07.12)
just imagine IF this student had NOT been Jewish- hate to think of the hoopla in this TB. I suppose there are nerds in every school and country...
17. most jews
#15   (03.07.12)
most were jews and many communists and other groups were also jewish, but it doesnt matter, since most were jews, and israel is the place for their resting.
