1. not surprising
Josh ,   us   (03.07.12)
the fact that the govt is ordering their underlings not to do their jobs is illegal, but not much can be done about it, i think bibi and barak, are further left than rabin was...
2. If the palis break the Law
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (03.07.12)
Maybe Israelis should start building and breaking the rules also.
3. It's an old story that were East Jerusalem
(03.07.12)
to be Jewish, their houses would have been long destroyed. Israel secular racist leaders would not dare do to the Arabs what they do to Jews, even though it's a Jewish state and Jews may live ANYWHERE they wish. BenGurion is turning in his grave daily with such anti-Israel leaders.
4. The nr. 1 illegal structure
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (03.07.12)
in Jerusalem is the Al Aqsa mosque, with all its minarets.
5. permits
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (03.07.12)
The government must begin giving building permits and supervising the construction, otherwise when the earthquake comes there will be terrible loss of life.
6. "I think bibi and barak are further left than rabin was"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.07.12)
If one were to compare what Rabin outlined in his final speech before the Knesset to what Barak, Olmert and (yes) Netanyahu have offered the Palestinians, it's clear Rabin would today be deemed more "right wing" than Bibi. But that's how things are when liberals and leftists control the public discussion - through the universities, the media, and popular culture. They just keep moving the definition of what's "mainstream" and what's not. And Rabin played a role in this process by signing off on the Oslo Accords, which legitimized Palestinian claims and interests while simultaneously undermining those of Israel's Jews.
7. New Arab City in Jerusalem
Yoni the JEW ,   Jewish Homeland   (03.07.12)
right near French Hill there is an entire new arab city with 20 story buildings constructed illegally over the past two years. Nobody would dare say a word and Nir Barkat is now trying to remove Anata from the Jerusalem borders in order not to be responsible for the city at all. Totally hefker
8. Important reason why - IDF protects them
Tracy W   (03.07.12)
The IDF is now in the business of protecting illegal Arab housing, while demolishing Jewish housing. Access to many of the areas where illegal construction is booming is controlled by the IDF. Senior IDF and police officials systematically refuse to carry out demolition orders in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. They don't even allow inspectors access, frequently citing "security concerns" as the reason for inaction. The current land use enforcement policy was drafted six years ago by the Ministry of Justice, and gave security officials significant autonomy in prioritizing the execution of demolition orders. The present "right wing" Likud government continues to implement such directive and has combined it with a draconian freeze on Jewish housing. In other words, let the Arabs build illegally - we freeze Jewish housing and demolish whatever Jews dare to build. Such discrimination in the application of the law based on religion would be illegal in most advanced countries. Not in Israel.
9. #7 I don't understand
Mark   (03.07.12)
How can a city be constructed while millions of Jews look on - and nobody does anything about it? I don't mean acts of violence, but some legal procedure to confront officials about it. This is not the only instance of illegal Arab construction, obviously. So to what do you attribute Jewish passivity?
10. The article's headlines:
Israeli 2   (03.07.12)
"Removal of illegal structures in east Jerusalem DECLINES" This nonsense should come to a complete HALT. Israel must build and build. It is a Jewish State.
11. Only one solution
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (03.08.12)
ANNEX ALL OF ISRAEL AND BUILD BABY BUILD.!!! ANNEX ALL OF DISPUTED ISRAEL AND ESTABLISH JERUSALEM AS ISRAEL'S UNDIVIDED CAPITOL. p.s. Vote Romney.
12. illlegal buildings
Johannes ,   Jerusalem   (03.10.12)
that is so hypocritical to bash the arab citizens that they allegedly don't care for law and order. they just don't have any chance to get building permissions, not even to add a story to their own house! the municipality totally refuses to do their job and care for eastern jerusalem citizens. surprise surprise: jewish settlements in eastern jerusaelm don't have andy problems to get permits!
