31. #11 Bill: Ignorant of the reality
Yitzhak ,   Israel   (03.14.12)
Bill, when you say "natives of the region" do you include the majority of Israel's Jews who are "native to the region" who lived in the "Arab world" but were evicted by Arab governments in 1948 and after? You also seem to think that Jews from Europe are "Europeans." Wrong. Europe murdered us and scattered us this past century in the name of an ideology that classified us as non-Europeans. So, here we are once again in our own land prepared to defend ourselves vigorously. And, that is what I think irks you the most: you prefer us weak, powerless and easy targets. Never again!
32. #19: Thomas
Yitzhak ,   Israel   (03.14.12)
Let's see how you will change your tune if hundreds of rockets were being fired daily onto Aachen, Koln, Munich, Hamburg or Freiburg and millions of Germans had to run to shelters in fright, keeping children out of school and stopping the economy. What makes you think we Israelis should accept such a situation so blithely? I formaly invite you to live in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Beer Sheva and today's target, Netivot.
33. Charity begins at home
Cynic #2   (03.14.12)
34. All violence is wrong; calling THEM evil is pathetic
a pacifist rabbi ,   Israel   (03.14.12)
It's truly tragic that many (but not all) Jews use their suffering as an excuse for moral short-cuts.
35. 'Rabbi' #34
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.14.12)
You sure as hell didn't learn that in the Torah. So killing Nazis was wrong? That is your logic, not mine. I for one stood up so you can be a pacifist. I will fight again so that you are free to express your opinion - but mine is that you are ignorant and not willing to protect our people so you should not have the right to vote here.
36. Bill (#11) has it right
a pacifist rabbi ,   Israel   (03.14.12)
There are unfortunately so many faults in the article of my respected colleague Rabbi Hartman (who knows I disagree with him profoundly on the morality of the use of force). I'll just point out the obvious here: By turning a majority of Palestinians into refugees, Zionism bears a huge responsibility in the manufacture of "evil". Is this tikkun olam? It's more like sikkun olam (endangering the world); my friend Donniel, when our ancestors prayed with the old accent and said l'saken olam b'malchut shadai, they didn't change the saf for a samech!
37. But first...
manicdrummer ,   Galilee, Israel   (03.14.12)
...we need to get all Diaspora Jews to come to Israel. The battle will be fought right here.
38. Logic
Russell Travers ,   Cape Town RSA   (03.15.12)
Apart from the legal, ethical and spiritual motivations supporting the idea of self defense, there is self defense itself. If someone is trying to kill you and you defend yourself effectively it goes without saying that you have done the right thing to protect yourself or your children, loved ones or country folk from pre-calculated homicidal intent. Being thinkers, and used to analyses, if it makes it easier to motivate defense, go ahead, but never ignore your instinct for self protection. You are not crazy to think 'fight' if you see a man coming at you with a knife, a gun or a bomb - you fight and survive. You can think later and feel secure in the knowledge that your people have a history of righteous defence in this regard.
39. #22.edithan - All that you say is wrong, that's for sure
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (03.18.12)
So then all of your wrongs can never make anything right. You always are wrong, don't you read or learn anything ?
40. #23..You never learn, you just parrot the same old song
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (03.18.12)
You think everyone posting on Ynet and who disagrees with you is wrong. You dis-agree with so many Ynet posters -- did you ever think that you are the one who is out of touch with reality.
