1. Go visiit " peaceful " Holocaust deniers in Iran. They
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (04.08.12)
swap SS stories from the Muslim SS and draw a few Holocaust cartoons. A death to Israel demonstration by government sanctioned Islamist fanatics & martyr wannabees from the martyr army who want to rule the mountaintops of the world should convince him that Iran is "just talking"
2. Look while I agree with the sentiment please ignore him!
The Dude   (04.08.12)
Look he is an old unrepentant Nazi. And it is correct to state our outrage against him. But now its time to do the correct thing and sweep him under the rug. The more attention we pay to this non-entity, whom I did not know even existed till he released this poem, the less attention we are paying to more important things. Like you know: Nuclear Iran, Hizb'allah pointing a couple hundred thousand missiles mainly at the North of Israel, Egypt's further steps into an Islamic revolution, Jordan's lack of internal stability, Iraq becoming an Iranian satellite state, Turkey going through its quieter Islamic revolution, Syria's civil war (my main concern is more if Assad tries to 'distract' this by attacking us), and many more. So sum it up simply F--K the old Nazi we've got bigger fish to fry.
3. This guy seems high on grass....
Ivan ,   South Africa   (04.08.12)
4. He should not only be banned but be slapped.
Israeli 2   (04.08.12)
5. GraSS is a VILE creature !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.08.12)
6. GraSS is like Goebbels...a rabid Jew hater !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.08.12)
He should be tried for inciting antisemitic violence !
7. "Educated anti-Semite"
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.08.12)
Well, that's an oxymoron if ever I've heard one!
8. People like Grass...
Reuven ,   Herzliya Israel   (04.08.12)
are ignored at our peril. Remember Hitler was not taken seriously by great numbers of the world's people.
9. Grass has no problems Pakistans bomb,Arab WMDs
PETER SM ,   AUSTRAL:IA   (04.08.12)
Pakistan has already sent its air force tro attack Israel. Whe is he going to inspect all those? Wonder what is his real problem?
10. The man has become a stain on the rest of us,
Markus Gilbert ,   Germany   (04.08.12)
Germans. Instead of appreciating the Jews' right to defend themselves in the face of those calling for their annihilation, he, once again, true to the uniforms he once wore, accuses the Jews of being ready to bring a disaster upon the rest of the world. The only logical conclusion one can reach from his statement is that which his parents' generation reached: the final solution. This, we, Germans, refuse to hear about. And, sadly, he still drives for it. I am ashamed we still have such people amongst us.
11. WOW
EM ,   Ra'anana   (04.08.12)
WOW...I'm sure that if he ever decides to actually visit Israel...he'll be devastated!
12. Racism
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (04.08.12)
Waffen SS trooper Grass should be persona non grata in Israel, but why the racism? Grass' opinions are no different than those of Mahmoud Abbas or Salam Fayyad, two people that Netanyahu does everything to honor.
13. No. 2 is correct
Lucy ,   Israel   (04.08.12)
Why is attention being paid to this man? Does anyone actually think he even WANTS to visit Israel? What a joke. There are many, many bigger issues to worry about and when our leaders focus on this man, it just makes Israelis look petty. Like we need anymore of that.
14. By accusing the Jews of being prepared to
Hildi ,   Berlin   (04.08.12)
bring about a Holocaust upon the world, Grass attempts to cleanse himself of the crimes he committed as a soldier of the Waffen SS and redirect the guilt on to the Jews so as to cleanse himself and perhaps his generation and that which preceded him.
15. #10 & 14 Nazism no longer German
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (04.08.12)
Markus & Hildi - You are welcome to visit us in Israel anytime. I have had the pleasure to meet with many post - WW2 Germans who are very sincere people. This Jew (me) knows how to 'discriminate' between people, regardless of their external label. And yes, Grass is a shameful character, who any self-respecting person would want to distance themselves from. Shalom!
16. Another Poem about Grass
Logic ,   Israel   (04.08.12)
Guenter Grass Tried to equate The Jewish State With his obsessive hate Now it's too late To obfuscate Too bad for Grass No cleansing of the shame Of his WWII aim In today's symbol of class Our minister banned his evil ass To all those who think like him Sorry to make your day so dim Israel will keep up the fights To defend her human rights
17. Gunther Grass
shoshanna ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.12)
Gunther Grass was in the Waffen SS and hid that fact for over 50 years. Now he comes out with an anti-semitic poem. But thats not all. He voices support for IRAN ,whose leaders deny the Holocaust (in which Grass obviously participated since he was Waffen SS). No that is too much for me. He needs to be shown up for the Jew killing collaborator and anti-semite he is. He should be put on trial for Holocaust denial and his past in the Waffen SS needs to be investigated.
18. To 10#.Thank you for kind comment.You
Dyslexic.... ,   Israel..   (04.08.12)
and people like you are welcome in Israel,we have a beautiful country shalom
19. nazi
rj ,   ramat gan   (04.08.12)
and the nazi's still live on......time they committed suicide..
20. THE GOOD SEED
daniel   (04.08.12)
Not all germans are anti semitic ,and there existed great germans thinkers who had an opposite stance and thought such as luis mur, schillebeeckx, karl rahner, karl barth, wolfhart pannenberg, joachim jeremias, gunther borkamm, thomas rausch, jurgen moltmann, walter kasper,,metz, pfeiffer and others but as always, unfortunately, good and truth do not have press and publicity as does the weeds
21. How many of you have actually read the poem?
Silky ,   Silkeborg, Denmark   (04.08.12)
I can't find anything antisemitic or racist at all in his poem. He calls for monitoring of both Israel and Iran nuclear programs( why not N. Korea or Pakistan?) He is critical of the present government, as are many Israelis. We are many who find Bibi abhorring. Are we antisemitic? Under Bibi, the whole country has become ultra sensitive to even poetically uttered words. To write a poem in the form of political or moral prose is not new. Lord Byron and Shelly wrote political views wrapped in prose and metaphors. This is not good publicity for Israel. It simply lends to more isolation and growing extremism. Furthermore, what Grass did as a 17 year, should not be his sole identity. I am worried about my wonderful little country becoming increasingly hypersensitive.
22. To: RJ at No. 19
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.08.12)
No, they love themselves far too much. It is, however, time to send a Mossad team. Grass is not just persona not grata -- he is life form non grata. Squash him, and consign him to the rubbish heap to which he has richly belonged since 1945.
23. A Shas blacklist As a prelude to book burning
Avramele   (04.08.12)
Am I the only one worried about the Interior Ministry barring people from visiting Israel because of their point of view? Are there criteria for such actions that do not violate freedom of thought and open discussion? Is a Haredi minister someone we should trust with this task? And would the neo-Putanist Lieberman be any better? What next? A public book burning of authors we don't believe consistent with our halachic or Zionist ethos?
24. Gunter Grass should be allowed to come to Israel!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.08.12)
Then we arrest him and try him as a member of the Waffen SS for crimes against the Jewish People and execute him as we should have done with John Demjanjuk! It should noever be forgotten that the Waffen-SS was condemned by the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal as a criminal organization due to its essential connection to the Nazi Party and involvement in war crimes. Once a Nazi always a Nazi!
25. Gunter Grass new poem
Mikhail Sodin ,   Tel Aviv   (04.08.12)
I wonder whether our ministers (Yishai, Lieberman, Netanyahu) read the poem before making a judgment? whether Attila Somfalvi who wrote the article read it? whether at least someone from those who responded to the article read the poem? I
26. I wonder & #22
Konrad ,   Warsaw, Poland   (04.08.12)
why the moderators allow people like Sarah (# 22) to express their sick ideas. To Sarah: A proposal to kill someone who thinks differently reminds me strongly of something very unsavoury, to say the least. A kind of Final Solution (or Endlösung), ain't it? K.
27. #23. Grass and the Leftists
Tom ,   USA   (04.08.12)
While most decent people condemn this unrepentant SS-Nazi's unfounded and unjust conniption, the Leftists and Haaretzniks immediately jump to his defense. The blood curdling similarities between the Nazi and Leftist Israel haters are mind boggling... To compare an elected Israeli politician with an unrepentant Nazi, evoking the Hitler-era book burning as if it were an Israeli trait or habit...the Left became insane. There is no word to describe the sick, wretched mentality of the Nazi apologist Leftist.
28. #25. Mikhail: Wasn't enough for you?
Tom ,   USA   (04.08.12)
After the Mein Kampf, Der Stürmer, The Protocols, and T.Friedman's N.Y. Times articles are you still thirsty for more Israel debasing mental farting? Read Haaretz, Chomsky if you want it but please don't compel others to sink into the Waffen-SS swill. Are you interested in the mindset of an Waffen-SS Nazi? Wasn't enough for you?
29. Some things never change
Gady ,   Mexico DF   (04.08.12)
Once a Nazi, allways a nazi.
30. I've read it in original
Sven ,   Stuttgart, Germany   (04.08.12)
... and there are connotations which are lost in the translation and for non-Germans. Grass and his "poem" are a disgrace!
