Well the Beatles said it once and maybe it apllies to Israeli's "quote form a beatles song " Happiness is a warm gun Baby"
4. Everyone would like to be an israeli...
Beary White ,   Norway   (04.09.12)
Living in another country,it comes to me that the people of Israel are the most TRUE people of life! They love life, they love to mingle, to laugh and cry together and sincerly take care of each other.. They love to love, AND they love to show kindness to foreigners and invite people into their hearts :-), despite rocket barrage from islam, "the most peaceful religion"!! That is why we understand the the kindness of citicens in Israel sticks very deep.
5. And the people who didn't like it left.

8. Belief in God? Really?
Northern ,   Israel   (04.09.12)
There's absolutely no correlation between a belief in God(s) and happiness. In fact, it becomes apparent when we look at the entire list and see that at the top of the list are: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Netherlands - all of which have a very low level of religiosity and a very high level of atheism (with Denmark being among the least religious in the world)
9. Because we are numb to the political problems

Living 24/7 under constant threat eventually your immune system adapts to it...

11. Why Israelis are happy
D Rund ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.09.12)
Bravo, Guilio Meotti! You also forgot to mention strong family ties which are important in feeling a sense of support.
12. # 1 from Ah-mad-in-a-jacket land
Shmuel ,   Anaheim, CA, USA   (04.09.12)
If happiness is living on somebody else's money and land then the "Palestinians" would top the list. These Arabs, after all, live in Eretz Israel and will not survive for single day w/o the billions in handouts from gullible Europe, USA, UN, etc.
13. WHY TO BE HAPPY IN ISRAEL ?
Mark ,   T.a. Israel   (04.09.12)
FOR ONLY ONE REASON : HERE IN ISRAEL NOBODY WILL CALL YOU BLOODY OR DIRTY JEW !!!
14. #1 Iran is occupying Syria
Deb ,   US   (04.09.12)
The power hungry murderous regime is eliminating Syrian civilians. Nothing to be proud of. Where does Iran rank on the happiness level? Oh sorry, Iran ranks high on the misery survey.
15. I do not know why and I do not care why,
leo ,   usa   (04.09.12)
but as long as Israel is happy that is all that matters.
16. Happiness is a survival mechanism
jeff ,   IRELAND   (04.09.12)
Many say the Palestinians have a bad time, and that's true. However, Jewish history is replete with tradegy, so I believe a vital sense of optimism pervades Jewish and Israeli culture. Succesive generations have survied through so much, and the one thing they've learnt is that pessimism and resignation are what kill people in the end. I'll add that all Israelis I've met in the flesh(I've yet to meet any Kahanists in person) hate guns and talking about fighting. Many people probably think that Israelis are like Texans with their gun culture, but today's Israelis, unlike Texans, would rather have been born into a situation where they actually could choose not to exercise the right to bear arms. Anyway, there you go...

Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.09.12)
Before you come here and spill your senseless hatred, learn how to write in English! I suppose the standards to be observed here are too high for trash like you. Also it is clear to me that, your country being close to the bottom of the happiness report, you are burning with jealousy of Israel and what it achieved for its people in a mere 63 years!
18. Mr. Meotti, you are the light onto us,the Israelis
HaifaGuy   (04.09.12)
God bless you man, even if some of your statements are slightly over the top. So heartwarming. PS Eat your hearts out Jew-haters, you'll never beat us, hahahahahaha.
19. Only 2/3?
Nachum ,   Bet Shemesh, Israel   (04.09.12)
I don't believe that only 2/3 of Israelis believe in G-D. That's saying there are 2,000,000 atheists in Israel? I'm sure the number is significantly higher, especially amongst Jewish Israelis.
20. Belief in G-d is the key to REAL Happiness
Dvir Yaakov ,   USA & Israel   (04.09.12)
N Israel, I feel for you. To not experience love of G-d is to not know what true happiness is. It's is equivalent and directly related to having never experienced true love. Unless one has found true love, they have no idea what it is. May You and those like you be blessed with finding G-d and unlocking your true potential for happiness! Le'Chaim!

daniel jarovisky ,   NY, US   (04.09.12)
Your English is atrocious farrokh. ISRAEL is 100% self sufficient with several industries on the cutting age. As for the land, if you chose to educate yourself before using your lousy English writing skills to spew ignorant rant you will learn that ISRAEL's Land belongs to the JEWISH people who turned swamps into flourishing cities of greenery and beautiful flowers. What did iranians manufacture/build/create? Tools of death and destruction. How many Nobel prize winners came out of iran in the last five years?????
22. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.09.12)
1. It's Israel's land. 2. It's Israel's money. A relatively small amount in the form of foreign aid from the United States benefits the United States immeasurably. The United States pours billions and billions of dollars into Arab and Moslem nations, with absolutely nothing to show for it. 3. You live in one of the most primitive countries on the face of the earth, where people's hands are cut off, when people are stoned to death and where people are hanged from jib cranes, slowly strangling to death. People are also sentenced to an obscene number of lashes BEFORE being executed. What NERVE you have being critical of Israel!
23. Drea Gulio, you did it again!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.09.12)
Every piece of writing from you on Israel and the Jews is a privilege and a pleasure to read. This one in particular sounds like poetry in prose. For a Jew, reading this brings about feelings of joy, pride and yes...happiness. God bless you!
24. I don't believe there is a single jew who really
ab ,   therock   (04.10.12)
doesn't believe in G-d. Although they may say they don't - what they really mean is that they don't understand Him. Of course, if we understood G-d we would be gods ourselves.
25. #8 You missed the point completely
ab ,   theRock   (04.10.12)
The question was how can a country with so much working against it - still be happy.
26. Cause Moshiach is comming!!!!
Efraim ,   Virginia   (04.10.12)
27. there is some correlation
Helena ,   Finland   (04.09.12)
In Finland and also in Norway 80 % of the population belong to the Lutheran church. Maybe the traditions make people feel connected even if they don´t have personal belief in God.
28. feelings
Helena ,   Finland   (04.09.12)
I met a woman, a Canadian Jew, in Jerusalem. She had arrived a day before and she told me with her eyes shining: "I have never felt so much alive !" That is my experience, too. You are very special people because you know how to live in present and make this present worth living. You don´t forget those who are in troubles and you keep making the world a better place for all the nations. I love you, Israel!
