1. Another wimp
Rachel ,   US   (04.17.12)
Meridor and Barak need to be shown the door after the next elections.
2. What's the difference?
Geoff ,   London   (04.17.12)
Is there really a significant difference between saying 'Israel should be wiped off the map' and saying it's cancerous and'should be removed'?
3. chicken
farrokh ,   iran   (04.17.12)
Egg less chickens dont mass with IRAN.
4. Ahmdeinijad & Khameni
Maxwell   (04.17.12)
At least Ahmdeinijad & Khameni said Israel is a cancerous tumor that has to be excised, which is the same thing.
5. Quote Controversy
Mark from Bondi ,   Sydney, Australia   (04.17.12)
I don't know how the Farsi translation should be, but an Iranian official English web site reported a speech to students where Armadinajad threatened "to wipe Israel from the map". The link was susequently removed. At least the Iranian government translator understood it as Bibi did. Had I known it would disappear, I would have saved a screen shot. Has any talkbacker got one still?
6. When Ayatollah says Israel is a cancer that has to be remove
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (04.17.12)
He means just that.
7. What else did he mean adressing a "death to Israel" mob
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (04.17.12)
A peace message.? The mob understands it in context of the meeting.
8. As soon as the Ayatollahs lied & murdered their way to power
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (04.17.12)
they commenced hostilities with Israel. They have been fighting a proxy war against Israel ever since
9. merridor is splitting hairs
alexi   (04.17.12)
what's the difference between saying wiping off the map or is cancerous ands should be removed and arming hezbollah, hamas and syria with millioins of dollars and rockets? Don't act like olmert, who is a coward. Israel may have to go war and stop crying about it. after the holocaust if israel doesn't fight for itself, noone else would.
10. Dont try fool us Mr Meridor !
who cares   (04.17.12)
11. Semantics.
Joe ,   Toronto, Canada   (04.17.12)
12. Semantic sleight of hand
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (04.17.12)
Come on, what difference does it make? Maybe he said "Israel should vanish from the Earth", maybe he said "Israel should be wiped off the map", both thing are the same, folks! It does not matter the precise translation of his words, the world has got the general idea quite well - and there' no denying it!
13. Let's see if Meridor can similarly parse the difference
SF ,   London   (04.17.12)
between genocide and extermination. What a jackass.
14. If Jews are suppose to be very smart
David ,   On this planet   (04.17.12)
We have the cream of the crop in the Knesset. LOL
15. Ahmadinejad - Meridor same nonsense, different country
Habib Seliman ,   New York, USA   (04.17.12)
In NYC at Columbia University Ahmadinejad also stated there were no homosexuals in Iran. Sadly, that's because he probably had them executed.
16. Meridor is too good for this government
Avramele   (04.17.12)
He respects the truth, is consistent in what he says, never throws oil on a fire, and treats all with respect. A different Israel would see a PM in the man. Daddy Meridor did a much better job of raising his sons - both mentchs, than Bibi's father who was one for two.
17. How many nukes can dance on a pin?
Baruch ,   Houston/Israel   (04.17.12)
What? There is a difference between wipe from time, cancer must be removed, and wiped of the earth? Send this boy to Beit Shemesh, he can sit in yeshiva and play word games. Likud looks more like America (respectfully) everyday, it can not make up its' mind and it can not govern.
18. same difference
Amanda ,   US   (04.17.12)
Sounds like one translated the phrase as a whole, one translated word for word. The meaning is the same.
19. He's lying! I heard Ahmadinejad say it in Farsi...
Kamran ,   San Diego, USA   (04.17.12)
...my mother tongue!
20. Why are you splitting hairs?
usa   (04.17.12)
Chanting death to israel is their daily ritual, rallying cry.
21. They shout: " DEath to Israel."
Farhad ,   Iran   (04.17.12)
How more explicit can you get!? They sneak arms into Hamastan & Hezbollah to kill the Jews. They bombed the Argentinian Jewish Cultural Center & Israel Embassy in Argentina. They are a bunch of criminals & terrorists. In Farsi, the sign in PARLIAMENT IS:" The destruction of Israel is at hand". PLEASE TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE SAND!
22. Where did they find this worthless idiot?!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (04.17.12)
Meridor, Barak and Perez must all come from the same useless family. Praying that God rids Israel of these cancers' that are trying to destroy the Zionist body, heart and soul. God bless, Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem!
23. I still fail to see the difference.
leo ,   usa   (04.17.12)
24. meridor is a fool
rick ,   walnut creek   (04.17.12)
let's see, a'jad said: Israel should be destroyed. Israel will be destroyed. iran has the means to destroy Israel. and meridor, the dummy, wants to parse the words of a single statement in effort to rehabilitate a'jad and suggest that he's been misunderstood. how stupid can one be? meridor provides one answer to that question: very, very stupid!
25. Lavarov making similar miscalculation with Iran as Syria
(04.17.12)
Tough sanctions are seemingly becoming more effective and tougher sanctions even more so. Sanctions for now are a better alternative to military conflict which is the strategy of last resort. Let the Iranians take visible verifiable actions to show they mean real business rather than confusing contradictory words
26. Oh boy!!
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (04.17.12)
If Israel can't even trust Ahmadinejad anymore, I don't see who else there is to hope for in the next Hasbara campaign. Sarah Palin maybe???
27. Wonderful! Deputy PM now does Hasbara for Iran!
Sifter ,   Chicago   (04.17.12)
28. #2 Yes, yes there is.
Kelly ,   US   (04.17.12)
Firstly, it is not Iran threatening to do the "removing." How many times have you read a post on Ynet where somebody claims that Iran's president has "repeatedly threatened to destroy Israel?" Hundreds, I'm sure. When posters are asked when this threatening occurred, they quote (or, more accurately, misquote) the line in the article. 99% of the world long ago figured out Iran's president was misquoted, it's good that Ynet has finally caught on. What Iran's president was saying is more like "there will one day be regime change in Israel" or "one day there will be a single state where both Israelis and Palestinians live together." Take your pick. What he was NOT saying was "we are building nukes to one day destroy Iran." Needless to say, the latter is what most posters here believe was said. I'm sure some posters will continue to quibble about this, but keep in mind that Israeli leaders have continually threatened Iran (ie: "all options are on the table.") I'm sure there have also been Israeli leaders who have talked about "regime" change in Iran, or doing away with Iran's leaders. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
29. Everyone knows about the misquote
Jilly Bean ,   Israel   (04.17.12)
except for the numbskulls who post here. This is old news, but better late than never.
30. the Farsi lunatic did not say that...
Yosef Y. MSc' ,   USA   (04.17.12)
The clowns Barak and Meridor are far gone enough for this:-- --- If someone would spit in their faces, they would respond: "What a nice rain today"...They still have not learned the lessons of appeasement - it is more important for these creatures to maintain their comfy chairs, than face the bitter reality of the ultimate CONFRONTATION - yes - with Iran!
