61. applause! The mayor is right!
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (04.29.12)
A haredim ruled israel is doomed to fail and to fall! Nobody will defend israel, will develop job and important technologies, the state will go bankrupt and the enemies of Israel will have an easy game with conquering the rests israel. That are facts, sad facts, but facts...

The way the haredi dress is nobodies business but their own and not something that they can be justifiably be criticized for. If they do one day become the majority as a result of demographics well the country will learn to live with that relaity which is the way things work in a democracy. This speech is an attempt to encourage hatred toward the ultra orthodox and try and radicalize the haredi so he can say look I was right the ultra orthodox are a dangerous threat to the secular way of life we must fight them. The ultra orthodox are made into figures of hate so seculars support anti religion legislation as their way of fighting back. The radical seculars who promote hatred of the religious because they do not live the same lifestyle as they do are just the same as the radical haredi who expects everybody else to live by their rules. If this is about Saturday busses as Tel Aviv has a diverse population and Shabbat is a subject very close to the hearts of the orthodox so why not put the arguments in favor of Saturday busses and let the residents of Tel Aviv have the final say through a vote. Don't try and promote hatred towards the orthodox and create scare stories. The haredi are citizens of this country as well, they may well one day become the majority of the population and the secular are not the elite who have all the answers and must be supported.

The main Haredi school network is guided by Gedolei Torah, rabbis of world stature who know what they are doing. When Ben Gurion and the Chazon Ish came to the Status Quo agreement, they both accepted that the Gedolim knew what they were doing without politicians interfering. Secular schools also have their problems. We each do the best we can.
65. Capital punishment in Jewish Law
Joseph ,   London UK   (04.29.12)
Although the Torah does legislate capital punishment, it was very restricted. It required the Temple, the Sanhedrin and kosher witnesses who had warned the perpetrator of what he was about to do. If condemned, it was the witnesses who carried out the execution. In practice the Talmud says it was unusual to execute one person in seventy years.
66. Who will drive the buses?
Danny ,   London England   (04.29.12)
If public transport runs on Shabbos and Yom Tov, who will drive? What if drivers are Shomrei Shabbos? Will you hire Arab drivers for Shabbos? Tel Aviv is probably the most free city in the Middle East. Don't destroy its Jewish character. The Status Quo must remain to keep the balance.
67. he's 100% right!

69. Israel a secular state for jews
M ,   NY   (04.30.12)
I agree with the Tel Aviv Mayor. If Israel would turn into an ultra-orthodox state their would be no secular Israel as there is today, 2012. We need to fight to stay secular.
