Jonathan ,   MN/US   (04.29.12)
First, Allah means God in Arabic. Second, please provide were exactly in the Quran did you find those quotes that said christians and jews are evil.
2. Try to imagine a "god" creating the earth and telling a man
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.29.12)
to start a new religion where the people are suppose to be able to lie to further the "religion," to kill anyone who no longer believes in the "religion, and to blow up innocent civilians that get in the way when promoting the "religion." Just by those few standards, no rational person would be lumping these groups together and saying they all pray to the same G-d.
3. You bet we do
Neil Turner ,   Watford, UK   (04.29.12)
You guys got there first though :)
4. Excellent article!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.29.12)
While I do not buy entirely into a "Judaeo-Christian" tradition (Judaism and Christianity are singularly different in key ways), I do know that neither Judaism or Christianity has built-in dogma which exhorts jihad and murder of the "infidel," by which they mean pretty much everyone that is not a Moslem. If you want a good take on Islam, take a look at the countries where Islam is part of the so-called "governance." They are, without exception, the most primitive and barbaric nations on the face of the earth. That pretty much sums up Islam. It's a gutter cult, not a religion, one which glorifies murder, the persecution of women to an insane degree, and a ruthlessness that renders it impossible to be considered a religion. Christianity had its period of barbarism -- institutionalized anti-Semitism, witch hunts, Inquisitions, blood libel, pogroms and the like -- but it advanced into modernity in most, if not all, of the foregoing. Islam is hell-bent on retreating to the Dark Ages. I, for one, do not wish to go. I think most normal people agree -- and that, sadly, likely includes a number of Moslems who are too afraid to speak up. They've seen what happens to those that do. But that is not the problem of either Judaism or Christianity. Islam has to fix itself -- or wither away and die. Frankly, I really don't care; either suits me down to the ground.
5. To: Bunnie at No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.29.12)
I'll go you one better. Try to imagine a "religion" which encourages men to discipline women harshly, as they are lesser creatures. Then again -- what else is there to say about a "religion" founded by a pedophile?

Well, since you asked: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/anti-semitism/koranjews.html http://europenews.dk/en/node/9163 http://www.defendproclaimthefaith.org/blog_koran_hate_speech.htm You should really learn how to do your own research. Reading the Qu'uran would be a very good place to start.
7. I hold by the RAMBAM & he says 100% different!
Jew ,   JewLandia   (04.29.12)
In other words Mr. Calic I do not agree with your opinion because it simply doesn't stand up to the RAMBAM! so sorry.
8. This political propaganda mascarading as religion...
Horatio ,   Israel   (04.29.12)
additional it ain't so!
9. Halakhakly you're wrong! And have you already forgotten
(04.29.12)
what those despicable vile xtians did to the Jews throughout history? Shame on ynet for allowing this outrageous article - probably from some missionary - on their site. Halakhakly, if there is no synagogue and the only place of worship you have is a mosque, you may pray in a mosque because they pray to the same Gd. JEWISH LAW CLEARLY STATES THAT IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO ENTER A XTIAN PLACE OF WORSHIP because their Gd is NOT our Gd. Dan Calic, do you think you know better than our Great Rabbis?
10. Jews are NOT free to leave their religion or mitzvot
What an ,   IGNORAMUS   (04.29.12)
"While anyone is free to leave Christianity or Judaism" where did you pick up this garbage from? Once a Jew, always a Jew. A Jew, even if s/he converts remains a Jew for the rest of his/her life as well as their descendants if the convert is a female. Jews are responsible to fulfill all mitzvot, not only the 7 mitzvot for non-Jews. If there would have been a Sanhedrin today, Jews would have been executed for desecrating Shabbat and other mitzvot. What an IGNORAMUS
11. Wrong angle
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (04.29.12)
The key to determine if a religion or people believe in the same G-D as Jews, is to look at what they claim is the will of G-D. The same G-D will not say different things to different people, and He doesn't change His game plan to choose another people. So in a nutshell, if a religion claims G-D's will is not that Jews are the owners of the Holy Land, they are worshiping a different G-D.
12. Who is no. 1?
Zaba ,   Calif.   (04.29.12)
You must be part of the dar al harab in MN. If u were not, u wouldn't require proof beyond the shehada........and 270 MILLION dead (not to mention slaves for sex and otherwise) over 1400 years of screams that 'allah hu akbar'-- allah is the greatest, man! And yet it continues even today. America has forgotten what muzlims are since we faced our first national challenge: the Barbary 'Pirates': muzlims all. Please see thereligionofpeace.com for daily updates. Excellent article Dan. Let's also include: there is no golden rule, no ethics in islam. Shocker, eh folks?
13. JEWS HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH XTIANS.NOTHING!
...DACON9   (04.29.12)
Jews can step into a mosque but not a church. esauv is hated by Hashem, not the yishmaeleem. Xtians were frobidden to employ Jews and totured jews from first church. Today xtiand CANT COMMIT MURDER SO THEY CONVERT JEWS.Which is a spiritual death. JEWS will never say one of the other gods are better then another god. *MOST OF ALL, why would a Jew compare other religions to THE ONLY RELIGION WHICH CLAIMS THROUGH WITNESSES THAT HASHEM CHOSE JEWS AT MT SINAI TO GIVE THE LAWS FOR ISRAEL AND THE WORLD. and the other religions base or use our Jewish prophets to give any credibilty to their religion. A TORAH JEWS NEVER REFERS TO MOHAMED OR JESUX WHICH ARE IRRELEVANT TO JUDAISM AND NEVER MENTIONED IN TORAH. This article is a lesson on wha not to read or learn from.

15. Praying to the Same God or Not?
ltrail ,   United States   (04.29.12)
Christians definitely do not pray to allah; never have, never will. allah just doesn't exist. Christians do pray to the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. The difference between Christians and Jews is that Christians believe that God has revealed more about Himself, such that He is a Triune God (manifesting Himself in three persons; yet one God). Christians believe that God manifested as The Son of God (Jesus) bore all of mankinds sin penalty upon Himself; so that by faith in His propitiation, man never needs to endure eternal punishment for those sins.
16. this article is idiotic and very childish
CHAIM ,   BROOKLYN NY   (04.29.12)
of course we all pray to the same g-d, after all no matter if you are jewish christian or muslim, you believe there is only one g-d,the only diference of opinion between these three religions is what does G-D want from us,according to Islam g-d wants you to behead all non believers, according to christianity,g-d wants you to turn the other cheek and believe that he had a son that was raised from the dead, and according to judaism,g-d wants us to live and let live and follow his 613 commandments,
17. It's so not true !!
Yossef   (04.29.12)
What a bunch of crap. Christianity is plain paganism, or at least a syncretism between Greek paganism and Judaism. Jesus is the son of god ?? What a stupid statement which has nothing to do with Judaism, but with Greek traditions of half-gods : Heracles, and so on... Even the word God has nothing to do with אל but אלה yes (El/Allah is the same word, learn it, you like it or not); Believe it or not my friends, we have much in common with muslims than with christians. I have already prayed in a mosque, never in a church, that's forbidden. Maybe today our worst enemies are the radical muslims, but during 2000 years the ones who killed Jews like rabbits were christians. Don't forget.
18. The G-d of Israel
Phoenix ,   Israel   (04.29.12)
Only Israel prays to the original Jewish and Israelite idea of G-d. Christians have abasolutly nothing to do with our faith. They mostly pray to a dead man. Islam it's the most similar way as they only pray to the One God but their idea of God, Hates Jews and the rest of no Muslim world so it's clear it's not the same G-d. Our G-d it's the G-d of Avraham, Itzhaq and Israel. Israel it's the original faith the other two are really absurd copies and deformations of our faith.
19. One can tell that Mr. Dan Calic is clearly criticizing Islam
AQ ,   Jerusalem   (04.29.12)
Yea well, that's his opinion and it doesn't really matter. Anyways, I'd be glad to share my point of view in short. First: Same God? Yea well, no need to complicate things. Allah is simply a translation of God. Most Christians believe in the Trinity, Jews and Muslims believe in one God. Second: It is well known that the closest religions from the practical side not if it is or not published under one cover are Juaism and Islam. Third: I'd like Mr. Dan to tell me where in the Quraan ''Don't take Jews or Christains for friends. If you do Allah will consider you to be one of them.'' Forth: Taking your own life ''suicide'', is not the same as being a martyr. You really think these suicide bombers are martyrs? Suicide is forbidden in Islam. I hope people wont mix politics with religion. Just because a punch of people claim they are martyrs if they blow themselves up and also killing innocent people, it doesn't mean Islam says so. Fifth: I'd advise anyone before talking about religions to be well educated about them. Comparative religion is a vast field in religious studies.
20. Calic Meotti
Wulf ,   Ge   (04.29.12)
What a junk article. Is this Meotti writing bilge under another name If you ask do Christians and Jews share a common heritage the answer is yes. If you ask do most Christian share common values with the occupying Israeli entity the answer is no..
21. #2

hey rabbit ears why don't you check out the backround and history of the Mormons. You may not vote for Romney
22. What.....
Oded ,   Israel   (04.29.12)
Ok, first it's "shahada". If you can't spell major theolgical concepts correctly then whats the point of writing an article? Second I am a Mizrahi with roots in Syria and Iran and I can assure you that "Allah" means nothing but God. All Arabic speaking Jews and Christians used that term. Dont believe me? Go to the Coptic website and see what word they use in Arabic for God. And my Grandmother still says "Mashallah" "Khoda Hafez" and "Inshallah". There is nothing wrong with saying Allah in reference to God. And we really want to get technical "God" itself has Germanic pagan origins and has nothing to do with monotheism. And since when do we have more in common with people who worship a dead Jew in a whacked out trinity and pretend to drink his blood in mass and that Hashem impregnated himself in a young Jewish girl and then sacrificed himself to himself to save us all from an original sin we didnt commit? Wheras muslims just believe in simple monotheism like we do. What an ignorant article.
23. The Christian 'god' is not the Jewish 'G-d'
ZionistBill ,   Israel   (04.29.12)
Christians foolishly worship a man. Jews worship the infinite and eternal Creator of everything. I know we're supposed to be nice to the Christians since the ones in America give us money, but they have to know that behind their backs we laugh at them. They worship a weakling man who rightfully had to die. I'm glad the Jews alive back then did him in.
24.  Judaism, Christianity and Islam
Marsha ,   Miami, FL   (04.29.12)
Jewish, Christian and Muslim fundamentalists all worship a god of intolerance based on a radical reading of their own scriptures that privileges certain verses while ignoring others. Jewish, Christian and Muslim non-fundamentalists have always had a expansive and inclusive view of God as compassionate, merciful and desiring justice for all human beings. The only reason the "Old Testament" is included in the New Testament is because the "OT" is a) superseded by the NT; and b) the NT is understood to be the foreshadowing and fulfillment of the prophecies of the "OT" and the replacement of Jews by Christians as the "chosen people." Christians. Muslims, on the other hand believe that God (Allah in Arabic) gave the same message to Jews, Christians and Muslims in different languages--Hebrew, Greek and Arabic. So why would a Qur'an need to be published in conjunction with a TaNaKh (Hebrew Bible consisting of Torah, Prophets and Writings)? Mostl of the prophets of Islam are mentioned in the TaNaKh, and the Qur'an contains numerous stories and interpretations found in Jewish midrashim. Religious fanatics of all faiths are equally prone to violence and intolerance. The historical differences among them have had to do with ethical constraints. Read Abraham Maimonides, Rambam's son, Dan. Jews were burning his father's books out of concern of what fanatical Christians would think of them. Avraham ben Moshe ben Maimon considered Islam to have much more in common with Judaism.
25. Hateful Propaganda
Eli ,   US   (04.29.12)
This article is purely hateful, and twists words out of context. Making religious claims because of political views is a twisting of religion, and should not be tolerated. Allah is equivalent to the Hebrew word Eloha, with the definite article attached. It is the same as our God, known as Elohim. If anything, one can argue that Christianity's God is farther from ours, as they believe Jesus to be both God and His Son. Judaism does not allow anyone to freely leave Judaism. There are plenty of commandments for which people receive the penalty of death. It is not unique to Islam. Religion, if anything, should be used to bring Muslims and Jews closer together, because they have a lot in common because of it. People like this author are simply trying to create more differences and seek to promote hatred, rather than understanding.
26. Funny
Yossi B ,   USA   (04.29.12)
Weather i agree or disagree is not up for discussion. All I can say is is wasn't written by a Jew or Muslim. This must have been- Written by a Christian Is there an Agenda?
27. Ignorance
Yossi A ,   Raleigh, NC   (04.29.12)
Dan Calic is making a political statement not a religious one. It is he who is ignorant and not well schooled in matters of religion. Most Jewish religious philosphers considered Christianity a form of paganism and Islam a monotheistic religion. Maimonides, the greatest Jewish philospher of the Middle Ages, had clear and strong views about Christianity and Islam:he held Islam in higher regard while disapproving of Christianity and its belief system. Had Dan Calic read Maimonides perhaps he wouldn't have written such a shallow and superficial article.
28. Allah means ''God'' in Arabic =/= the name of the Muslim God
Gehenas ,   Cairo, Egypt   (04.29.12)
29. We sure do.The only problem is that the
Dyslexic.. ,   Israel...   (04.29.12)
the first Christians that lived in the times of Jesus in the promised land(Israel) were Jews. The Christians just cannot come terms with fact that Jesus was a Jew,so was his mother and father.
30. Allah is the Arabic word for God
Ignorance ,   Nazareth   (04.29.12)
Arab Christians also pray to Allah. Allah should be translated as God. The shahada is more properly translated as there is no God but God. This whole article is premised on a mistranslation and ignorance of the Arabic language.
