Sarah B , ,   U.S.A./Israel   (05.03.12)
At least this. They should sell us at bargain price their whole fleet. Or try to curb the enthusiasm of some German citizens...
3. I can only say -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (05.03.12)
-sad it was not Swedish Ones, the Best Conventional Subs in the World, but wrong Policy hinders. Arn.Sweden.

The Dolphins are not stealth submarines. They have a low sonar signature but they are not actually stealth. Look up on wikipedia 209 Class submarines of which the Dolphins are a modified version of and you can get a better idea of their capabilities.
8. how come it needs a year to come to israel? is it that slow?
ralf ,   german   (05.03.12)

Chatich   (05.03.12)
Hopefully the delay is due to a short stop on the itenerary, in the persian gulf, to make a special delivery to the mullahs!
10. Thank You Germany.
Eli ,   Israel   (05.03.12)
German machines are the best in the world and this Submarine will help the IDF against it's enemies. I hope Germany will continue to support the Jewish state.
11. #5 - Gunter Grass (and you) are wrong.
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.03.12)
12. American Tax payers!
Sam ,   US   (05.03.12)
I hope it is not purchased from the American tax payers or US will be angry!

I agree that the Swedish subs are the best diesel electric submarines on the market. Germany make good subs but they are not as good as the Swedish.
14. if there is 1 thing we can thank Barak for
zionist forever   (05.03.12)
he was willing to spend money on the IDF & he got some good deals. Both Gabi Ashkenazi only wanted 4 subs and Benny Gantz only wanted 5 but Barak managed to find the money for 6. He is responsible for getting the F35 and getting a deal so the wings for about a third of global F35 sales. He resurected the Merkava 4 program after Peretz killed the project and he gave the go ahead for the Merkava based Namer APC and unlike original plans to just convert retired Merkava 1 into APCS they are being made new based on the better protected Merkava 4. He provided the funding for large scale purchases of the Tavor rifle and many other things so even if Barak was a lousy PM and just an average DM at best as a man who could get new toys for the military he was the best that there has been in a long time.
15. #3 - Incorrect - It is well-known that Kiel has some of the
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.03.12)
best sub builders in the world. Most things from Germany are top Swedes supply good steel and cars though.
16. The post at No. 2 is not mine
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.03.12)
17. #12 - it is paid for by Israel and Germany from what I
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.03.12)
understand. It creates many jobs in Kiel because that's where they build the subs. Everyone wins.
18. All ships need shake-down time.
Scott ,   USA   (05.03.12)
It's part of having a Navy. It should take upwards of a year to shake the bugs out, test the systems, make sure that everything meshes properly. Meanwhile, the crews are obtaining necessary experience with the vessel. Anyone interested in the price of going into battle at sea in a ship that isn't ready should look into the history of the HMS Hood. You don't want that to happen to the INS Tanin, God forbid.
19. #15 - The world "quality" and a period seem to have run off.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.03.12)

(05.03.12)
Both shipyards HDW (Germany) and Kockums AB (Sweden) belong to ThyssenKrupp. It's all one company using the same know-how. However, not really surprising that the German government only subsidized the deal as long as the U-Boots are build in Kiel.
21. #8: No it just needs to make a small detour to Iran first :)

22. will the Sarah B troll please just go away
zionist forever   (05.03.12)
You have something to say then don't pretend to be somebody else its childish and you ruin the debate for everybody.
23. Nr 15 and 20.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (05.03.12)
The US has borrowed Swedish Subs for their Training of their Aircraft Carrier Task Forces. And that is therefore the Swedish Subs are the Best in the World. In those Trainings the Swedish Sub has always managed to sink the Carrier. Arn.Sweden.
24. #20 - Didn't know that. Learn something new every day.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.03.12)
25. # Agree with you
zionist forever   (05.03.12)
You are 100% right. Let's put an end to all this trollies.
26. #23 - I fail to see the connexion here.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (05.03.12)
The ability of the sub to sink the carrier is more is likely a result of the captain's skill rather than the sub's construction. Even then, it says nothing about how well-built the sub is for it to be used in a training exercise. Also, if those are live-fire exercises on hulks, wouldn't it say more about the precision of the torpedoes? I'm no expert of course.
27. #12 sam
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.03.12)
Israel trains our soldiers in ME urban warfare, shares improvements they have made to our military equipment, and shares intelligence with us (intelligence which is difficult for them to get, but impossible for us). Some of us American tax payers realize this is worth more in lives than the money we send. Speak for yourself.
28. Iran wont need to do anything after you waste your money!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (05.04.12)
and go bankrupt. Despite such submarines may be effective, especially Israel plans to strike Iran through Persian Gulf by penetrating very close to those nuclear facilities it may not work. and you will just waste your money for nothing!
29. #8, 21 - Actually,
seadog1946 ,   NYC/NJ   (05.04.12)
taking ownership, accepting the agreed upon performance specifications and capabilities of a military submarine is a much more complicated/prolonged process than driving a new car off a dealer's lot and immediately merging into rush hour traffic.
30. #13 As far as I know...
Soeren ,   Cologne/Germany   (05.04.12)
... the newest Dolphin subs are no longer Diesel electric – but have a Hydrogen powered "Air Independent Propulsion" which allows them to stay submerged for much longer periods of time and being more silent at the same time. It's the next generation of conventional submarine building and design...
