The kind of cruise missiles Israel carries on its subs might be fine for carrying nuclear weapons but I doubt they would be much use against the Iranian nuclear facilities anyway but a submarine has alot of uses. Can spy on Iran, sink their ships & subs with torpedos, destroy certain land based targets with missiles, send divers to carry our sabotage or spying operations and of course its a nuclear second strike platform. Another use these subs have is next time Erdogan sends a flotilla instead of risking the lives of Israeli commandos we can use a submarine to sink the ship. As far as destroying the nuclear facilities goes, Bibi is probably going to get Obama to do that willingly or not. Maybe he has done a deal with him and after the election the US will attack Iran or maybe Bibi will provoke Iran into retaliating against an Israeli strike ( doesn't have to be a big one ) and then as he is just six months away from an election Obama cannot sit by and do nothing for Israel in its hour of need and so he will order the US forces in the Gulf to attack Iranian missile launch sites and destroy the Iranian nuclear program for good.

Oh, I don't know about that. Israeli submarines did pretty well when it came to sinking two Iranian container vessels carrying arms destined for Hamas and Hezbollah. We did it right off Bandar Abbas. The Iranians never knew we were there. We're still there, and the Iranians haven't a clue. By the way -- a missile fired from an Israeli submarine will do a considerable amount of damage to Iran (especially if it is tipped with a nuclear warhead) long before Iran even realizes it has been launched. The new Swedish Gotland Class submarines probably the best diesel electric submarines on the market. Just because Israel has it doesn't mean its the best there is. Its Saddam Hussain we have for getting the Dolphins. In the 90s Israel's Gal Class submarines were slowly approaching the end of their service life but there was no money in the budget for replacing them. Then came Saddam & his Scuds and some of the parts were made by German companies and as compensation Germany offered to donate two of the Dolphins Israel had wanted but not had the money to buy and a third would be sold at a subsidized price. After that the navy fell in love with them, started to realize how submarines would allow Israel to take wars far beyond its borders and in the 21st century the economy was in good shape Gabi Ashkenazi only wanted four submarines but Barak wanted six and he managed to get the funding for six. The submarines in question are all “diesel” in that actual nuclear submarines are much larger; too large for the coastal waters of the Mediterranean. The difference of the newer Dolphins is that they will be able to stay under water longer. The new system, as I am reading, will generate electricity which in turn drives the electric motors for propulsion and/or recharges the boat's batteries. It seems the diesel motors will still be used.
