Did this never take place? YNet reported this in April 2009.
Zacharia Zubeidi, former commander of the Fatah-affiliated al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades, resigned from the PA security forces to join the government's Ministry of Prisoner Affairs.
Zubeidi, who was released from an Israeli prison in 2007 after agreeing to renounce terrorism, served as a PA policeman until two months ago, when he accepted an offer to join the government.
"I will serve the public and the applicants on the matters of prisoner affairs and their problems, especially when I begin working out of the office," Zubeidi said.
"I will serve and improve the status of the families of prisoners, who are a valuable part of the Palestinian people, the part with the most painful problem," he said.
Zubeidi said his new position will provide the best springboard for his work.
"All of my friends from the resistance currently serve in the security forces, but I chose a civil career because that's where I can contribute to the things I believe in," he said.
