4. Hijacking....
Mike ,   Haifa   (05.12.12)
I just hope that the extreme left wont hijack the suffering of the people and turn it into a bashing feast against Israel Zionism and a for a launching pad for the "peace process".
5. Many reasons to thank the anti-social protest
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (05.12.12)
Thank you from all of us who have been saving for our pensions for years - with 80 billion Shekels wiped off our pension funds. Thank you from anyone living north of Hadera and South of Hadera becaue it was more important to subsidise your lifestyles than to pay for anti -missile systems. Thank you from the thousands of people who have lost their jobs as businesses go to the wall. Thank you from most of the manufacturing sector - that's those of us who produce the wealth that pays for the country - where pay rises are a distant memory as companies strive to cut costs to lower prices to satisfy your demands. Thank you from every single tax payer and every household for we will be paying more tax and more national insurance and more VAT to make up for the massive drop in tax revenues as companies' profits are wiped out. Thank you for pushing us further towards recession . And mostly thank you for showing us that social solidarity is unimportant, the future of the country is unimportant, lets rush to export jobs to China because its cheaper to amnufacture there, buy food from Greece because its cheaper there, and all so long as we can cut prices in a mad lunatic drive to emulate Europe's success in lowering prices by destroying their economies. ,
6. they don't understand anything about economics
zionist forever   (05.12.12)
These protestors will never be satisfied and we are going to see waves after wave off protests because they don't understand the first thing about economics. SANE HOUSING PRICING How can you have sane housing prices when governments don't set the housing prices, like everything else its based on supply & demand not government intervention. Why should a property owner who wants to sell their apartment accept less money that somebody be willing to sell their property for less in the name of social justice? In Tel Aviv especially they are living in a fantasy world if they think they will get sane property pricing considering Tel Aviv is the most expensive city in the Middle East and the 19th most expensive city in the entire world and thats not the fault of government. They don't like the fact government has ties with industrialists but without those ties the economy wouldn't go round. This lot who want their simple life just don't like the capitalist system and would prefer a nice and SIMPLE planned economy where the government owns everything and there are no evil industrialists making a profit. Pure and simple I am entitled to thinking. Why should the rich industrialist be allowed to earn enough money to by a nice car & luxury apartment , I am obviously being abused in some way by the industrialists because I am not rich and they are.
7. keep listening to left u will stay losers grow up get a real
ralph   (05.13.12)
education. then get a job. the days of lunatic leftist theory are over they have been proven empty ideas. your leftist profs are the real losers in life. emulate them not and for the sake of your future reject their guidance.
8. To #6
Andi ,   Israel   (05.13.12)
You are right that housing prices are determined by supply and demand. But the government can influence the supply end by freeing up more land, and instituing other reforms that encourage building.
9. which is why their leftist profs must be fired
ralph   (05.13.12)
10. cant afford Tel Aviv
David ,   Haifa Israel   (05.13.12)
get jobs, join the Army and DO NOT LIVE IN TEL AVIV!!! Instead of being idiots.. go to shul and pray on the Shabbos.
11. only an idiot would buy a house in Israel
Golan ,   modiin   (05.13.12)
with these prices. And this is not something for the government to get its dirty and filthy hands into. This is not the government's job.
12. What means social Justice? Free money?
Salomon S ,   São Carlos   (05.13.12)
You people know why Germany escaped the crisis affecting the other European countries? Angela Merkel imposed a 10% reduction in the salaries of all the public servants...Federal and provincial (2% each year during 5 years) and the private sector froze the salaries... There are no miracles, only discipline and abnegation in hard times...
13. Daphna , Blond Drama Queen
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (05.13.12)
You are as naive and fixated as the government is duplicitious.. Come to Kfar David in Jerusalem, and see millionaires taking the bread out of the mouths of holocaust survivors. Look at how much taxation leaks through the black economy Look at effects of inherent corruption in Israel's system of administration Look at the law administration fiasco that puts people off seeking justice Open your eyes and do some work, and not get a buzz from showing off on adrenalin of the limelight
14. i would ashamed to go there, not be seen as a looser.
alex   (05.13.12)
15. Cheap housing in gaza and settlements, take your pick.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.13.12)
16. 2 things should happen
Rachel ,   US   (05.13.12)
1) Haredim should be forced to work. Ridiculous that working Israelis are paying for able bodied who refuse to work. 2) Introduce competition in food market. Prices will go down drastically, end the monopolies.
17. Sure, let's storm the Bastille! This is what happens when
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.13.12)
you don't educate the young people. Any populist "leader" can get traction with the mindless "we want more & cheaper"- slogan. Yeah , why not comrades?!!!!
18. I don't understand what is the problem
Travis Trillionaire ,   Ra`anana   (05.13.12)
When we need some cottage cheese the scullion maid goes out and buys several kilos of various types. What goes bad or turns green goes to charity (I'm a generous sort). So what's the problem?
19. Pigmask represent pigs

20. Read this--if printed!!!
Tom W. ,   Windsor, Canada   (05.13.12)
Periodically I attempt to post an opinion piece on developing Judea & Samaria in various on-line Israeli newspapers whenever articles regarding the price of living space in Tel Aviv are published. My opinion has never been published--it's a simple premise but I guess it's too highly political. Tel Aviv was built primarily due to the ongoing hostility of the majority Arab population in Jaffa against the minority Jewish population. This constant friction led up to several Arab riots which saw Jews beaten up & killed! The world laughed at a bunch of Jews attempting to build their own town outside of Jaffa among the sand dunes. But those sand dunes have been paved over & those streets now belong to that metropolis called Tel Aviv. Now just imagine if the Jews never built Tel Aviv & just decided to maintain their European ghetto mentality; Jaffa would now be an Arab city with a continually hated & abused Jewish minority! Judea & Samaria has vast tracks of land just sitting idle, remember the lesson of Tel Aviv! This land in 100 years from now could have several cities of Tel Aviv's size & wealth! So tell me, where in the Torah is it written that Jacob must share the land among the sons of Abraham's concubines? Nowhere! So why is it politically incorrect to say so & say that this land is part of the covenant between God & HIS people Israel? Just say it already & start breaking ground to the new Tel Aviv's of Judea & Samaria!!!
21. I work 6 full days per week and earn the
jason white ,   afula, israel   (05.13.12)
minimum wage. Each month the security company I work for steals a good portion of mine and other security guards salaries. I do not want to share what is left from my salary with others. Go live in a cardboard box in Tel Aviv, if you want to live there. I do not want to subsidize apartments for you or pay for your higher education. As for the others in Jesse Cohen, go to work and put in overtime and move out. My family moved out of the projects when my late father worked two jobs and my late mother also worked full time in an office. Go to work and pay your own way. I would rather see the defense, education and health budgets increased and the social budget decreased!
22. I often wonder, if these people were to organize
leo ,   usa   (05.13.12)
into kibutz of some sort and would show to all of us the right way to run the country (or in their case a kibutz, which I presume should be much easier).
23. When Schnorrer A gets to gether with Schnorrer B what do you
Al   (05.13.12)
get? A union of schnorrers. That about sums up the social protest movement. Its being a schnorrer on steroids and whining themsleves silly. Listen up dudes and gals..no one really gives a rats ass as to your whining. Get to work save a nickel or two and get the F out of the way. You are blocking traffic.
24. Are the protester the majority?
Clear Thinker ,   Haifa, Israel   (05.13.12)
I strongly doubt that the protesters are the majority. As far as I can see, it's the majority that is in power now, and not the majority that is protesting in the public square.
25. i'm from a kibbutz but kibbutz is small and the change that
sivan   (05.13.12)
is needed is a wholsome one and small remote places have difficulty to reach the masses of people. So what we try to do is to build a stronger bond between people wherever they are. kibbutz city and so on.
26. LEARN FORM CANADA!!! LEARN FROM ISRAEL
to USA people   (05.13.12)
We have better culture + health system + saner economy . don't drink and drive!!!
27. This is combined with a global movement
zionist forever   (05.13.12)
This story is also covered by Israel Hayom but in more detail and they say this was designed to coincide with the global anti capitalist movement Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Chile, UK These people don't know what the hell they want and social justice in Israel has become a personal issue. To some its housing and others think there is no social justice if Strauss are allowed to sell a chocolate bar cheaper in America than Israel. The only two things they all seem to be agreed on is somebody is moaning about something ( they want the Garden of Eden ) and if your rich then your an oppressor whilst the people on minimum wage are the good guys. I am sick of hearing people moaning about the price of chocolate bars & cottage cheese or motorists protesting on the grounds of social justice because they have to pay an extra 5 agarot in tax for their fuel. Last time round I had some sympathy over things like housing but now its just a free for all and as long as its in the name of social justice your entitled to anything you want.
28. Money-junkies hate affordable housing!
Michael Rivero ,   Honolulu, HI   (05.17.12)
Thousands gather in Tel Aviv for first social rally of summer, demonstrators hold up signs calling for 'sane housing prices,' greater equality. More rallies held nationwide. Dear Israeli people. The bankers do not want affordable housing. If you could buy a house and pay it off in just a few years, like a car, then you would be free of the banks and of no more use as a slave. So, bankers work to make sure housing costs so much you will work your entire life for that stack of printed paper slips you need to borrow from them to buy that house. The interest on those pretty printed pieces of paper from the bank is often more costly than the actual home itself, and is passed onto the next "owner", making every home a pyramid scheme from the point of th view of those bankers.
