5. I am sorry, the fundind for terrorist came from US
Miron ,   USA   (05.16.12)
and was distributed by most charitable peace loving organization in the world. The best friend of Barak Obama, Hamas. So, if our US judges find financing terror a criminal offence they should consider arraigning former head of US State Department, Condolezza Rice. She paid for the terror, not Assad or Iranians.
6. Let's get this straight.........
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (05.16.12)
11 people were killed in that attack but only 1 family gets the astronomic sum of $320m and the rest get nothing just because that family hired an expensive lawyer? Even taking into account all the sorrow of the family, does that sound right to anyone reading this?
7. Mike Rishon Lezion use your head
David ,   Israel   (05.16.12)
The story begins with " an Israeli advocacy group won.." The sole amount doesn't just go to the one family it goes to all the victims families
8. Response to # 4
Vladimir ,   Jerusalem   (05.16.12)
Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Lybia and other Arab countries should be sued for all acts of aggression against Israel and the Jews since 1947 as well for the robbery of their Jewish citizens.
9. unprecedented
observer ,   Egypt   (05.16.12)
10 Israelis in one place didn't have dual citizenship and perished as byproduct of only one American.
10. the victim(s) are charging Syria only $161.5 million
observer ,   Egypt   (05.16.12)
11. Terrorist countries Iran,Syria,Turkey!
farhad ,   iran   (05.16.12)
All these 3 countries should be sued and their assets frozen for killing, maiming , encourage terrorist "flottilas" and the like. Make them pay! They will think 1000 times before they commit any more terror.

Paul Sheaf ,   Liverpool UK   (05.16.12)
It says in the headline and at the begining of the article that it was the advocacy group that won, not one family. Anyway the money is not what counts here, it's the fact the court ackowledged Syria and Iran are complicit in terror.
13. @7 incorrect
(05.16.12)
The only people filing the suit were the American family under an American law. they are the only ones eligible to collect the money. It is not divided up and shared with the other families.
14. #4 - and Israeli should sue for years of Syrian terrorism
William ,   Israel   (05.16.12)
coming from Golan on Israeli civilians. I think the price of the entire Golan would fit the bill.
15. # 12, # 7, # 13
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (05.16.12)
# 12 - not sure about that because if it wasn't for the "compensation" aspect the lawsuit wouldn't have been filed in the first place. No-one needs lawyers to assert that those countries are complicit in terror - just read the news every day. # 7 - seems like you misunderstood - see number 13. # 13 - if that is the case then it really can't be justified on moral grounds at all.
16. Completely meaningless
spyguy ,   Seattle USA   (05.16.12)
This will either be overruled on appeal since it violates a massive amount of case law or the people that sued will get ZERO. This was a waste of court time.
17. Palestinian militants? Why not TERRORISTS?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.16.12)
Seems "political correctness" from Israel bashing News sites is infectious!
18. Excellent, Congratulations a job well done.
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (05.16.12)
Keep the law suits alive and collect all the terrorists money you can. One sure way of sending a strong message, there is a cost to terror.
19.  # 15 Mike Carmel Courts don't usually grant an appeal.
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (05.16.12)
or overturn a prior ruling. ( more than 95% of all appeals fail ) I doubt that even if both Syria and Iran appealed, it would fall on deaf ears, there are now laws written expressly for this purpose ) Nice try, even if wrong, the US Courts have already frozen their ( Iran and Syria's ) assets.
20. Well done! Congratulations!
Esteban ,   Argentina   (05.16.12)
21. Even if it is symbolic
Esteban ,   Argentina   (05.16.12)

23. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.16.12)
Wrong. The lawsuite was filed on behalf of the family and ALL INIDIVIDUALS SIMILARLY SITUATED. That means, everyone who incurred a loss out of the incident stands to benefit. But it goes beyond that -- it's precedent against Syria (precedent against Iran abounds). Get your facts straight, okay? Most importantly, this lawsuit had nothing to do with financial compensation. What price do you put on the life of a loved and cherished one? But it does hurt Iran and Syria where they live -- their financial resources which are used to sponsor terror. That will no longer be tolerated, and Saudi Arabia is next. Not only do they pay hefty blackmail to keep terrorists away from their shores, but they pay pensions to the families of suicide bombers! They need to clean up their act, in a hurry.

That is all it takes - one US citizen to initiate a suit against the killers. We make such crimes very expensive for those who perpetrate such horrors.

Moshe of Rockville ,   Rockville,MD USA   (05.16.12)
Those who support trerror against Americans will pay and pay bigtime. There will bo no overturning of the verdict and no waste of time against these miserable, brutal thugs. See you in court!
28. Just so everyone knows
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.16.12)
There is a world of difference between receiving a favorable decision and actually being able to enforce that decision. But should it come about, no one is looking for a financial windfall. The money will go towards establishing foundations and educational trusts in the name of the victims. No one wants to benefit financially from this ruling -- it's blood money, and everyone knows it. Are we Arabs, that we sacrifice our children for a payday? No. We are not. This ruling is first and foremost a moral victory. And if scholarships can be awarded using funds arising out of the damages awarded, isn't that a good thing? Well, to Jews it is. Perhaps Arabs and Moslems view it as money poorly spent. It's fairly obvious they feel that way. All the billions of dollars, euros and gold that the Arab world controls, why haven't they used any of those funds to buy small starter homes for Arab families living in sordid displaced persons camps? Why haven't they funded scholarships to the children who live in those camps? They've had over sixty years to do it -- but they haven't. Doesn't their silence on the issue speak volumes?
29. #2-they will be paid with frozen assets in the US

30. @15 correct re:ur comment 2 me @13

the way it works is this: If a victim or survivor of a terrorist attack anywhere in the world is also a citizen of the United States then under the rules, regulations and laws related to acts of terrorism against a (1) USA citizen, (2)installation (diplomatic or military), or (3) a USA registered corporation. 1, 2. or 3 above may file a case in a USA court for compensatory damages etc. The process is long and takes about a two years to follow through. I will explain by example: The first such case filed in the USA was that the one filed by the surviving family of terrorist victim Aliza Flatow. Ms. Flatow may her memory be for a blessing was killed in a terrorist attack on a bus in Gaza. In that incident many other Israelis were injured or killed but Ms. Flatow was the only USA citizen on the bus. Her family filed and won their case in USA federal court. They were able to collect a very large sum of money from Iranian assets in the USA. As I recall they created a foundation in her memory but DID NOT share the proceeds with anyone else who was injured or killed on the same bus. I agree with you there is a serious moral issue here. Particularly since according to Israeli law all victims and survivors of terror are awarded benefits from the Israeli National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi). Since 1995 the National Insurance Institute benefits are equal to those received by families of fallen soldiers or soldiers who have war related injuries and disabilities. That's just the way it is and no I don't understand why.
