31. change to voluntary professional army
d ,   israel   (05.17.12)
Let bashers here volunteer. They won't because they hate the way system is run. And instead of calling for change they pick on chareidim to hate it from within too. You want Beit yaakov girls serving as mattresses. You want the seculars to break the chareidim? You are all full of it. None of you respected past Tal law and none of you consider chareidim your equals.
32. Institute Yeshiva Testing
Max ,   Los Angeles CA   (05.18.12)
Transfer the government funding into scholarships that are based on Testing in Torah and Talmud/Midrash subjects. The talented top 10% will then recieve state scholarship funding to continue their studies. The rest will then be qualified for either military or civilian social service. What is it with not working and living off state welfare? Everywhere else in the world that the Haredi live, that would be considered a shameful act. I mean didn't the great Rabbis of the past all have professions(i.e. Maimonides was a physician, etc)? If a large religious group in the U.S. depended on state welfare like this you'd never hear the end of it!
33. "Gradually" doesn't work with Hareidim,
Vered, Israel   (05.18.12)
That's how we got the Tal law. What we need to do is to make any form of government assistance dependent upon army service. Medical, welfare, etc., should only be available to those who earned it. Let the Arabs and girls do National Service. It's not fair to let one guy serve hot meals to the homeless, and another stay awake all night defending us. It's just not fair
34. no work=no money
josh ,   israel   (05.18.12)
Force and coercion makes no sense. Simply change the money they receive from welfare to"workfare", No more free money guys, either make a positive contribution to society or you will not receive your benefits. This is more than fair, and involves no coercion.
35. Let everyone choose
Ethan ,   Eilat   (05.18.12)
Alternative service must be in the general community, supervised by professionals and with Army discipline. an important role of the IDF has been integration. The idea is not to change peoples beliefs, it is to integrate Israeli society and break down the horrible polarization, while providing needed services.
36. Why differentiate?
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (05.18.12)
Why state will force my secular son to take a gun and go in front while haredi will get a choice to decide army or social service? Why my daughter will be forced to join army while their daughters will have choice to decline? There should not be any alternate to tal law. Either give every one choice to choose army or social service or force everyone to join the army. Do not talk about democracy and in fact apply discrimination (here seculars are being discriminated). Equality for everyone in a democratic state of Israel.
37. No service no gov't benefits
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (05.18.12)
No one should be forced to serve. But they should also receive NO benefits such as study stipends, child allowance, housing benefits. Nada, not one single shekel!
38. Zahal & Haredim
Kevin J Lee ,   Glasgow/UK   (05.19.12)
This isnt only an issue of giving an order to draft all age related Haredim, but more that Zahal is not equipped to assimilate the Haredim. Shalom l"atem KJL.
39. #5...will pray for food
Steve   (05.20.12)
You would not know god if you were sitting next to him on a park bench. The way man best serves his creator is to live an honest and productive life. One must work lest he and his family become a burdon on his neighbors. The Haradim are simply a grotesque mutation metastasized from the original 400 scholars who were appointed as keepers of the flame after the Shoa. We do not really need tens of thousands of uneducated, unproductive, parasitic n'er do wells to fester amongst the brave and productive members of Israeli society. Pull your own weight or get out.
40. #37 And does this include Arabs?
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.20.12)
41. #19 And what about the Arabs? Do we...
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.20.12)
cut them off, too? Oh, and by the way, can I assume that YOU served in the Israel army?
42. to dorothy friend
gelb   (05.23.12)
dorothy is anything, but a friend. i never heard her saying anything remotely positive about israel, israelis or jews EVER!!! Most probably she is indeed a miserable masochistic antisemite expat from some cold and unbearable anglo-saxon country that she escaped from to make all of us here very happy with her ugly obnoxious rantings. she was an antisemite and fated to remain that forever. she cannot comprehend, let alone accept, that Israel is a JEWISH country as it has always been intended and meant to be one!!!
