1. These guys are pathetic
Dan ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.19.12)
No accountability....typical Arab attitude, blaming everything on Israel... no future for them
2. WHY ARE WE NOT SURPRISED?
SRINIVAS ,   India   (05.19.12)
The battle in Syria is between the evil and the even more evil opposition. Of course if the Muslim Brotherhood and other fanatics get into power, things will get worse for Israel. Better the devil you know than the devil you know will be worse!
3. good for Israel
Ooga Booga ,   Monkeytown   (05.19.12)
A cold peace with Syria will bring few benefits. This way Israel keeps the Golan forever.
4. Exploiting Jews as political scapegoats - how original
Yaniv ,   Israel   (05.19.12)
5. Most leaders know lack of intl. action not for Israel...
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.19.12)
... but to allay the fears of many countries from Asia Minor to Moscow that a weakened Syria will lead to a power-grab by Turkey. This guy's a small fish if he doesn't know that. But for someone who doesn't understand the regional considerations and history, thinking it is for Israel's sake seems to be a fair mistake.
6. Blame it on Israel
Sidney ,   USA   (05.19.12)
"BEIRUT -- The head of Syria's main government-opposition alliance announced Thursday that he would resign after members accused him of "political and organizational failure" and threatened to withdraw from the group" Everybody in the Muslim world blames all their failings on Israel.
7. Comedy
Korem ,   NYC   (05.19.12)
Assad a friend of Israel...wow. It seems these Arab opposition leaders, government leaders, or pretty much any other kind of leader will actually go so far as to state a direct lie, not even a complicated one, but a direct, obvious, clear historical lie, just to rally people against Israel. This is why I have no remorse for Syria and what's going on there.
8. what a thing to say
chad ,   usa   (05.19.12)
hahahahahaha ally? Where'd he get his definition of an ally? what a anti-semite. I hope Washington reads this. They'll have a really good laugh.
9. There we go....
deavman ,   Acco, Israel   (05.19.12)
Now we feel much better, don't we? After all it was just a question of time before the usual accusations would be uttered. We are on familiar grounds, at last, what a sigh of relief.
10. Fruits of the Arab Spring
Herut ,   Galut   (05.19.12)
This is just a typical fruit of the Arab Spring! Only a fool thought that freedom and truth and democracy would grow from such poison seeds...seeds which are little more than mutated by-products of the current or former regimes---which are indistinguishable from those that are coming when seen for what they are---new maniacal despots full of hate and dreams of committing genocide.
11. Not Russia, who supports and arms the
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (05.19.12)
hated regime, but Israel is responsible that bashar asad is still in power.yes a oppressive secular regime, is better than a oppressive islamic regime.
12. Blaming Israel
Karl ,   Seattle, WA   (05.19.12)
Assad is no friend of Israel and neither is the opposition. I still support the opposition as it will likely not let Syria be used as a tool of Iran. Iran is the real threat to peace in the region.
13. the fight continues
real vision ,   usa   (05.19.12)
and let it continue in syria as both sides are evil. What dreck spews from syria. Nice to know they are on the receiving end of the terrorism they sponsor
14. let them kill each other
k ,   US   (05.19.12)
just like in Libya, what a tragedy it was that NATO intervened, as long as they kill each other I am happy
15. if Israel was concerned about security we would attack Syria
zionist forever   (05.19.12)
Assad has the largest stockpile of chemical weapons in the region along with missiles to deliver them if his back is to the wall he may decide to attack Israel in the hope it will make him a hero. Hafez Assad was considered an arab hero because he was never afraid to go to war with Israel so junior might try the same trick. As far as Assad is concerned it would be great because even if knows he can't win the more people killed fighting Israel the better the propaganda and fewer enemies. Assuming Assad doesn't attack Israel what happens if Hezbollah or a raidcal Islamist government replaces Assad we could have those chemical weapons in the hands of crazy jihadis looking for virgins. For Israel better to have a 1967 style pre emptive strike rather than a 1973 style sit back and wait for them to fire first which results in more Israeli casualties than need be. Now is also the perfect time to attack Syria because we can sell the idea as a humanitarian war. ASSAD HAS KILLED 10,0000 INNOCENT SYRIANS AND THE WORLD IS NOT DOING ANYTHING SO MORAL ISRAEL DECIDED WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO SAVE THE SYRIANS Nice airstrikes against the tactical military facilities and don't seek territorial gain and limit the ground forces to defending the border. If Israel preempts then I imagine Erdogan is going to attack Syria from the Turkish side because he is just itching for a fight but he just doesn't want to go it alone. So we destroy the military sites, let Erdogan be the humanitarian, we got what we want, he got what he wants everybody except Assad is happy.
16. #12 Karl
David ,   USA   (05.19.12)
You are dead wrong! The opposition in Syria is the same as the opposition in Egypt. They are made up of the muslim brotherhood who hates Israel above anything else on Earth! If they come to power in Syria they will be kissing the monkey within hours. They are aligned powers who are trying to form a caliphate to destroy Israel. Read Psalm 83 and you will get the picture.
17. Rat's A**
Steve ,   USA   (05.19.12)
I didn't know what to think about the 'rebels'. Do I feel sorry for them? Do I believe they are being slaughtered and need somebody or some country to protect them? As for relations with Israel, I kind of figured that they wouldn't be friends with Israel when the dust settled. Right now and forever, I don't give a rat's a** what happens to them. I'm sure that the rest of the stinking world will come to their aid (when they don't have to risk anything - like war) since the 'rebel's' animosity towards Israel is irrelevant to them. Iran will be their friend which to most of the civilized world would be unbelievable. That they would be OK with Iran after Iran has murdered or is responsible for the murder and torture of them is beyond apprehension. Not a penny of aid or sympathy should come from Israel or Jews and with no shame in that either. All barbarians should rot!
18. Syrian rebels wont recognize Israel
jj Gross ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.19.12)
At the end of the say an Arab is an aRab is an Arabs, fueled by hatred, lusting for blood, in thrall with honor killings, executioners of gay people. All we can expect is new murderers replacing old murderers. New suicide bombers replacing old suicide bombers. New jew haters replacing old Jew haters. Nothing really changes in the friendly world of Islamic societies.
19. Duh...why won't the West help us..boo hoo.
Dan from NJ ,   Livingston, NJ   (05.19.12)
Pathetic.
20. Let them go at each other -who cares?
Rachel ,   US   (05.19.12)
21. Neutrality
Speedy ,   Boston, MA   (05.19.12)
The statements coming out of Syria reinforce the view that the west should just hold the coats while the boys duke it out. Ultimately the ME will be a better place with a weakened Syria. The mistake the US is making is supporting Erdogan as a convenor of an alternate government. Another Obama mistake in the ME since this will just foster an Islamic takeover if Assad ultimately loses. I'll take opportunism over fanaticism any day.
22. #16
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.19.12)
The Egyptian and Syrian situations are different. In Egypt there was a popular rebellion. Obama stupidly threw his ally Mubarak under the bus. Ever since he realized how much he damaged American interests, Obama has been desperately trying to save something. In Syria, Obama tried to encourage rebellion to damage Iran and help Saudi Arabia exterminate the Shia. After Assad, with Russian help, defeated local rebels, Obama sent in Western special forces and Al Qaeda terrorists. The Sunni are accusing Assad of being Zionist just like Assad is accusing the Saudi/American forces of being Zionist.
23. Sooner or later ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.19.12)
... it was bound to happen. The unrest in Syria is "Israel's fault." The refusal of the West to intervene and chase out the Syrian regime is "Israel's fault." Mind you, it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the West is perfectly happy to allow murderous Arabs to go up against other murderous Arabs. Syria has nothing to offer the world -- do they think we have forgotten that Syria is one of the world's leading sponsor of terror? That Syria ordered the murder of the Lebanese head of state? Is that Israel's fault, too? The so-called "Syrian opposition leader" -- well, one of them, anyway; that's actually a fairly large club -- is living in a fool's paradise if he really thinks that anyone gives a damn what happens to his nasty country. Loved the way he shlepped the issue of the Golan into the mix. The Golan has been formally annexed and is now and forever a part of Israel. Syria has clearly forgotten that Israel shot down 82 Syrian MiGs in a day and a half -- most of them piloted by Russians -- without a single Israeli loss. Do let us remind the Syrians that nothing has changed, Damascus remains in Israel's gunsights and setting the border at Quneitra was a completely arbitrary decision. We can certainly move it further north. Considerably further north.
24. Arabs being themselves.Blame Jews, probem solved, reality
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (05.19.12)
is too uncomfortable. It requires confronting reality and self examination
25. Good thing for Israel that
Stephen in New York   (05.19.12)
Arabs don’t learn from their mistakes. Guess there won’t be any near-term pressure on Israel to return the Golan Heights for a piece of paper replete with Syrian assurances.
26. Finally ther Truth! Israel and Iran are allies and
leo ,   usa   (05.19.12)
Assad is Great Uniter and Peace Builder. OK, these pathetic Syrian fools deserves everything that will befall them and then some more. Go, Bashi! Go!
27. Evil against evil!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (05.20.12)
The west should do nothing to help the Syrian opposition or Assad's regime. They are both evil. Let them destroy each other.
28. Don't look for peace
Avi ,   USA   (05.20.12)
It doesn't matter what the conflicts are in the Arab muslim world. The scapegoat is always the Jews. Arabs are the most racist people left in the world. Their culture is racist. their religion is racist. It's time to wake up and realize that these people spread, endorse and practice racism and ethnic cleansing. It's time for the reformation of islam into a peaceful religion.
29. Here is an idea - Israel can offer help to Syrian opposition
leo ,   usa   (05.20.12)
in exchange for recognition of Golan Heights and Shebaa Farms as Israeli territory and to be uncontested forever and ever. Syrian Oppas, make this declaration in UN today and Assad will be gone tomorrow.
30. Muslim on Muslim murder far exceeds total # of Arabs
STEVEN GILBERT ,   Teaneck   (05.20.12)
killed in wars with Israel and the West. Consider: 1) Iran vs. Iran > 1 mln. deaths 2) Sudanese Arab genocide against Black Muslim Sudanese 3) Irag internal terrorism and Saddam on his own people 4)Syria civil, relatively small but growing 5) Libyan and Algerian civil wars 6) Turks and Iraq against the Kurds So much for the religion of peace.
